Hello All!! I am new to the BDWF, and I keep coming up with the same question in all my research..I have heard that many DW locations take a LONG time to get newly weds their 'official' marriage documents after the wedding. Is this rumor true? does it really take a long time to actually be legally married in the US when you get 'married' in Jamaica..or Mexico? Any opinions/past experiences would be great...Thanks!

I have heard the same thing and because of this I have decided to get married in the states. I'm just not going to tell anyone so that they will all still come!

I got married in July and did not receive my documents until October. I was ready to go to the local court house and do it again. I needed to be added to my husband's insurance and could not because we didn't have the license.

I've heard it takes a while to get the license back too. But your marriage is definitely legal in the US if you get married in JA. I'm sure your wedding coordinator will give you a copy of the license or some document to take back to the states with you to prove you did get married for name change purposes.

It does take some time... I was married in May & didn't get my papers until the end of the year.

Here's my previous thread on it: http://bestdestinati....ificate-48634/

I got married in Negril in August and I had my license in the beginning of October, which for Jamaican time, is pretty quick. My wedding coordinator fed exed it to me. I told them I needed asap in order to make the changes to our health insurance.
