Ooooo I just found this thread!!

Hi Everyone, I'm getting married in Montego Bay, Jamaica on Nov. 13.  Using an amazing local photographer (www.cineart.ca).  She spends most of her winters around the Caribbean so I was able to book her at her normal prices and she waived any travel fees.  Shopped around Calgary for months, only to buy a dress in Redcliff, AB.  embarrest.gif

My travel company WAS Transat Vacations as of 2 days ago, but they just royally screwed us over.  Half my wedding is departing from Calgary, the other half from Toronto on Sat-Sat which worked perfectly with our Wednesday wedding.  Well Transat just decided to change the Calgary package to Thurs-Thurs.  This is after we had our deposit paid, invites all sent out, people starting to book, etc.

We were told to book early because things were starting to book up then suddenly they change the dates and tell us that's what happens when you book so early. Our TA suggested 1) change the wedding date 2) fly everyone to Toronto (which would add $800 per person onto the TO package price for flight + overnight hotel) 3) Go with WestJet or AirCanada ($400 more per person and non-existent package, respectively). But we don't even have enough people travelling out of Calgary to qualify for their group rate (10 rooms min. where Transat was only 5)  URRRG

SO FRUSTRATING!! We are at a loss as of what to do, other than tell everyone to just figure out their own thing and they don't have to pay way more than we told them in the invites. But how horrible is that?!

Nice to meet you all, and thanks for listening to my rant! :)

Oh no... this really sucks, I was told when we booked that it was a pre registration so things could change once the flight schedules came out, but still annoying considering everything else is booked. Could you talk to the resort and change your wedding date? I mean I think that it is common having flights all change, then you could at least do the trip thurs-thurs and not have to make any other changes?

We ended up having to change our wedding date due to Air Transat and booking early and not knowing travel dates too! Initially our invites said nov 29 and then we were like OMG if flights are fri-fri everyone would be leaving the morning after our wedding. We put it on Wednesday, and sent out an email update to everyone, so that if I was fri-fri, sat-sat or sun-sun we would be safe. Such a hassle, I know your pain!

Hi Gingerbeef,   I'm so sorry to hear about the schedule change - totally frustrating!  I just wanted to let you know that I actually work for WestJet and my flight got schedule changed for our wedding in August too lol.  Luckily not enough to affect our actual date and it was my flight, not the one our guests are going on, but a bit of a pain none the less.   They were more than willing to work with us to find a no cost solution - as was Air Canada when they schedule changed my friend's flight for this past January when she got married in Punta Cana.  They actually even ended up paying for her hotel stay in Toronto!

Have you spoken directly with Transat to look at some other options?  It's possible they might have other flights that would work but just moved you to one that they thought would work best.  Usually there is some other option direct rather than spending $800 to fly everyone through Toronto, or I'd think they'd let you make the connection but not charge that ridiculous amount since it was their schedule change.  It's true that booking early will help with a lower cost but certainly it throws a wrench into things when you think you're set to go and a change that is out of your control messes up your plans.  I hope you find a solution that works for you and doesn't cost an arm and a leg!  :(  I know you're likely attached to your wedding date that you've set, but perhaps you could change it.  If all of your guests are there for a week then they won't care when the wedding is as long as they get to celebrate with you - and not have to fly home the next morning!   Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
