Amy - It's funny when you have the city in your backyard, we tend to take it for granted.

For instance the city doesn't have the big shopping malls, we have to go from block to block. The Manhattan Mall just doesn't compare. But when you get used it, I guess it's fun to do the opposite.

I live in Long Island and do the mall/driving thing and find it to be a pain in the butt with the city, walking everywhere with bags in hand. Maybe I'm lazy =) HeHe

But I love nothing more than coming up from the subway and smelling that city air and hot dog/pretzel guy on the corner. =)

You're totally right, grass is always greener! I am in sales and my territory covers the Northeast and I constantly get people telling me they come out here to shop etc. I think driving in NY would be a pain, heck driving in LA is a major pain but I think it's the thrill of only going to NY once a year and exhausting myself with shopping out there for a week. I live across the street from two major shopping centers, an 18 screen theatre, 4 Starbucks and a Target and 2 miles outside of Hollywood so I'm in no shortage of shopping by any means.

There's a different vibe in NY, fast paced, etc. that I just love. I've wanted to live in NY since I was a kid, I just highly doubt I'd be able to survive more than a week of winter. Winter in Cali is 50's and maybe occaisional rain!

You girls are right - the grass is greener...
I've only been out here a couple years, but I do really like it, mostly. I'm way up in the north end of Manhattan & although it's great having the subway so close & getting downtown is fairly quick, (assuming the A train runs express!!) I definitely miss having a car. I really like driving, but gave up my car when we moved out here so that was kind of an adjustment.
And there's no quick errands. Going pretty much everywhere takes forever and if you're doing any shopping you have to carry everything with you so that's sort of a deterrent sometimes. I try to get a zipcar like once a month for Target runs and Fresh Direct has saved my sanity so many times (online grocery ordering & delivery)

That said, it is a pretty incredible place to live & this city has energy like no other!

Anyway, if you girls make it out this way let us know! Maybe we can all meet up. :)

oh, and the winters really aren't bad. It never gets terribly hot or ridiculously cold; just pretty damn windy all the time. And it rains a lot. Of course, I'm from Chicago & weather there is waaay worse than NYC. Guess it's all relative.

Ha, I get a kick out of you guys talking about NY, not because you live there but my FI was there for a month in February for work, he stayed near JFK airport but most of his work was in Manhattan but he hated it. He's a country boy, grew up camping/hiking Yosemite in CA and then went to FL to go to college so it was definitely amusing to hear him tell me about his weeks there.

I would love to go to NYC sometime soon! I haven't been there in a while and I was only there for a day! Lol.

I think I'd be scared to live in NYC!

HAHA, Karen, it's in the 50's here now and I'm inside wearing a peacoat. :) I wouldn't last a winter in NY, I'd be freezing all the time!

I think it would be so much fun to come out and see you two!
