Unrealistic Weight loss expectations?

Recommended Posts

Hey Girl :) My theory is that if the dress was only $99, it will not be a deal breaker if you can't fit into by wedding time. ANY weight you lose in the next year will make you feel more confident and healthier than you do right now....so strive for your wildest dream and don't beat yourself up if you can't acheive it. It's your wedding day and you have nothing to lose (except weight!) I have a very aggressive goal of losing 30 lbs by my november wedding, which technically computes to 120lbs in a year! I'm joining weight watchers and going to the gym 5X a week.

Good Luck!!!!!!! Congrats on ALL of your progress thus far!

I do not think its unrealistic. I would meet with a nutritionist and go from there. Try and work out at least 6 times a day. You have a great goal. What I would do is chop it into sections say in this amount of time I was 20lbs and so on. Believe in yourself and you will accomplish it!

I'm a huge promoter of bootcamp style training programs and training with a good friend. It is sometimes hard to be motivated on your own and a more assertive training style is usually the kick in the butt some people need.

I agree diet is absolutely important but PLEASE before you go starving yourself please look into a more rigorous exercise program. If you aren't getting enough calories you are going to feel drained and tired and you won't have enough energy to work out.

I think with your body type doing more core building exercises would be very benefitial in toning up your midsection. While I wouldn't call your goal unrealistic I think breaking your goal up into stages would be more rewarding. Another thing to consider is changing your goal to lose inches, it might be easier than looking at pounds and you'll also get a better idea of how your body shape is changing.

Good luck and congrats on losing 60 lbs so far!!! Amazing!

Hey girl! Congrats on the weight loss so far!!! That is a HUGE accomplishment.

As for fitting into a size 10… Who cares what the number on the dress says?!?!?! As long as you feel beautiful that is all that matters – and FI should support you in every way possible. Seriously, I bought a Davids Bridal size 12 at 150 lbs, I have been working out and dieting like crazy and still it still fits (no alterations needed) and Iâ€m down to 130 lbs. Everyoneâ€s body is different like you said so what does it matter if you have a size 000 or size 500 dresshuh.gif

As for the future weight loss, be honest with yourself and take into account that wedding planning is stressful and hard on your work/life/planning balance. Set some realistic goals like others have mentioned and build a support system to help you reach those goals. Use this forum to vent when you want to gorge on a pound of M&Ms, use Weight Watchers to help with the food stuff, find a great womenâ€s gym and set a routine of going. You can do anything you set your mind to!

As for that dress that is taunting you in your closet, throw it in the deep dark confines of an attic and forget about it for a while. You have a whole year and might totally change your mind on what you like – I mean honestly, how many people on BDW have multiple dresses? And if you do change your mind, you can sell that puppy on ebay or on here!

Good luck and weâ€ll all be online supporting you with whatever you do :)

I could not agree more. Starving yourself will also result in your metabolism adjusting and decreasing, which means it will only work so much time before your body adjusts to your new food intake level.

Exercise and healthy eating habits are the only things that can make it work on the long run.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement. I wish I could reply to you all individually but I'd never get done! lol

I decided to give it a shot, eat a reduced calorie diet (but NOT starving) with exercise and see what size I am in April (3 months before the wedding) and go from there. If I am close to fitting in the dress, I'll work to get into it, if not, I'll settle for what size I am at and buy a new dress :)

Mandy,

Congrats on your weight loss so far! Go for it girl! Just be healthy & smart about it! We don't need you running down your immune system or getting light headed or injuring yourself in some way!! I bet you can do it and whatever additional weight you lose is fantastic! Be proud of what you have accomplished and just keep going. It is so hard sometimes, but just going day by day (or hour by hour) I find I am making progress too.

Hugs!!

Congrats on the 60 lbs. As long as you keep trying to do this for the right reasons, not just to fit in the dress (I want to also) I believe that you will be successful at getting healthier and that is what matters.

Great on the cardio.  I also recommend getting a small calendar and writing down your workout each day after you accomplish it.  Try to work out 5 days a week and do something active everyday.

Just do what you can and be proud of what you accomplish, and what you have accomplished in the past!! I think you should set smaller goals, rather than a large number over a year. Maybe have a monthly goal? That way you can alter it if you need to. Good luck, and no matter what you will look amazing on your wedding day!!

    • The cooking method can double the calorie content of a meal, so learn about healthy cooking without having to add extra fats, like using a steamer,  a rotisserie , a slow cooker , a pressure cooker, a grill. Once you cook your own meals, you can control the calorie content because your control the cooking method and all the ingredients. A lot of people are overweight because they keep eating food that they did not cook.
    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
