My mom doesnt think anyone will want to come to my wedding. I am trying to include her in the planning process... So today it came to the STD she firmly believes no one will come to my wedding and i should not invite people or tell people to STD for my wedding when they most likely will only attend the AHR anyway... FMIL also kinda seems to feel the same way how do I respond to this??smile35.gif

oh my god!!!!! How the heck do they know no one will come to your wedding?!?!?! First off, your wedding isn't next week!!! Your wedding is over a year away!!!! Secondly, sending our STD's allows those that want to go to save money and prepare well ahead of time! Lastly, those who are closest to you WILL GO!! Your family, your best friends...they will do whatever they need to in order to join you both on your special day! And that is what STD's are for! So, your mom and FMIL need to RELAX and be SUPPORTIVE of what you and your FI want. Ultimately, it's your day and you should do what you want! We sent our STD's out in March and our wedding is in January (10 months before). Our family and friends are so excited about it! We know there are some that won't be going, but that's ok. We completely understand. Had we not sent them to those however, we'd forever hear "well, we didn't even get invited!!". So, invite away! Send your STD's! Well...invite those you want to invite and those you want to be there! Good luck and happy planning! Tell your mom and FMIL to butt out, haha :)

See that's exactly how I feel! Thank god I thought I was going crazy and maybe the mom's were right... I swear she really thinks it's just going to be us and my parents and his parents and that's it... not only is our wedding OVER a year away, we have a really cool travel agent that is setting up a payment plan and 4 night 6 night and 7 night packages to accomodate everyone.

Everyone will want to come! She is crazy. Yes there will be people that will not be able to afford it. If you give then enough notice with the STDs (LOL), it makes the expense easier to handle. Don't worry. Just give them notice and see.

I'm sorry your Mom has an attitude like that about your big day. I didn't think very many people would want to come to our wedding either because of expenses, but it turns out that over 40 people would like to go, so don't listen to her and get those STDs out and have fun planning.

I agree...sounds like Mom and MIL are old school and don't realize that destination weddings are very popular in this day and age. Is part of the problem that THEY don't really want to go? Those who want to be part of your special day will be there if it's really important to them. Get the STD's out so that people can start planning!

I think you should send the STDs out to anyone you would like to be at your big day I think you will be surprised who comes to your wedding I know I was. Once your wedding happens your Mom and MIL will think you made the best decision every your guests will love and talk about it all the time. Good Luck!

I think sometimes when we try to do something different...like a DW...it makes the "old school" people nervous. I know my mom is surprised when I tell her how many people have said they will come. Your Mom and FMIL may have this picture in their head of what they think your wedding should look like, which is probably very different of what you are picturing it to be...and as everyone else is saying, it's your day.

You won't know that they won't want to come if you don't invite them....or at least send the STDs to get an idea. Your Mom and FMIL will probably be very surprised. People always want to go to a wedding!

Hi, I am sorry that things are not more exciting for you. How horrible to have to deal with kind of thing. But they are wrong, of course no body would go if not told about it. You tellthem and they will come! Ok not everyone but thats ok. People need to know and if they know about it early enough then they can plan for it. You go right ahead and send out he STD. I didn't and I am real sorry. Do as much as you can, enjoy as much as you can. Making all this stuff is half the fun!

    • we ended up using Facebook messenger when we were in Mexico - the hotel had free wifi and at least 1 person from each family/couple had FB on their phone already - it was pretty easy to communicate among guests "hey, we're heading to the beach bbq for lunch." or "everyone is hanging at the small pool today".  a plus was that some people tried to get a hold of me via FB on the day of the wedding and I was totally not checking my phone - they were asking if the wedding was outside given the rain forecast, thankful my mom, MOH and a few other friends were on the group and could respond for me :)

    • Hi Everyone, So, I was cleaning out my closet and realized that I never sold off my extra wedding OOT bag stuff from our wonderful DW.   46 Daily Spanish for Dummies 30 Pool colored OOT fabric bags - approximately 13in x 13in. They lay flat.  I used them for our wedding and they were perfect for everything we needed to fit in each bag. There’s a slight shade variation in the group; I’m guessing some were cut from a different bolt of fabric.  They are also a little wrinkled from storage and will probably be wrinkled from shipping. I have three additional ones, but they somehow got something on them (likely toddler related). If needed, I can try to wash it out and send those as well.
    • I’m getting married in six months to my foreign girlfriend. I was advised by a friend that one of the things I need to do before saying I do is to get a prenuptial agreement. Basically it’s supposed to protect my assets and properties in case my relationship with my future wife goes down the drain. I don’t know though if this is an acceptable practice when marrying Kiev ladies. I don’t want to do it if it would be insulting on her end. I need advice on this. Please help me.
