Hey Everyone - ive been keeping tabs on this thread - with a wedding in Nov im hoping it blows over too. My guests have to book by June 15, im hoping this happens sooner rather then later. Though im totally aware of the media blowing this out of proportion. I just rcvd this from my travel agent.

Sunquest Vacations (who we are using) has cancelled all packages to Mexico until June 4.

Media Statement

Re: Sunquest Mexico bookings

We appreciate that our customers are concerned about travelling to Mexico at this time due to the cases of Human Swine Influenza. The Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and the Public Health Agency of Canada, have now issued a travel warning against all non-essential travel to Mexico. Therefore, Sunquest has taken the decision to not operate our programs to Mexico, effective immediately, however at present we plan to resume our operations after June 4, 2009.

The following policy will apply to all Sunquest Mexico bookings between April 28 and June 4:

For those passengers departing from now to June 4, 2009 (inclusive):

- You may change your booking to any other Sunquest destination, including the ALBATours Italy program, for travel anytime up to Oct. 31, 2009;

- You can cancel your booking and receive a travel credit for the amount, which must be used before Oct. 31, 2009 to any destination Sunquest or ALBATours offers;

- You must pay any price difference if the cost is higher;

- There will be no refund for any difference in rates if the cost is lower;

- Travel must be commenced by the end of October 31, 2009;

- These changes must be made through our call centres

We recommend that customers also check with their travel insurers, as you may have coverage for this type of incident.

We will continue to monitor this situation and will keep you advised. We would ask those who are travelling on later departure dates to be patient as this situation evolves.

Please note, we will continue to operate our flights to collect all passengers currently in Mexico. We will advise if there are any changes by our airline partners.

Thank you,

Sunquest

Yes but if you read the whole article:

""Border controls do not work. Travel restrictions do not work," WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl said, recalling the 2003 SARS epidemic that killed 774 people, mostly in Asia, and slowed the global economy.

"There was much more economic disruption caused by these measures than there was public health benefit," he said, adding that WHO is advising countries to provide treatment for the sick and make sure national plans are in place to ease the effects of a larger outbreak"

So its mostly political - so irksome though. Of course my aunt and uncle were stoping in Cuba before coming to Mexico for our wedding next week. I really hope they lift the band and this doesnt affect them!

I just booked our wedding this weekend in Isla Mujeres (Cancun) for Oct 24th so not only are people freaking because of swine flu, but that it is during hurricane season and they are predicting more activity than usual! Here is the thing I have come to realize (not on my own of course but with the help of my friends). Who ever is meant to be there will and those who don't come, don't come! No big deal! You have a dinner or something when you get home. It's about you and your husband, not the guests (I realize easier said than done)! But go, enjoy, and let the only rolling around in the hay be in the bedroom! =)

I hope the ban gets lifted in time for your aunt and uncle to get to Mexico, right now it is only a 48 hour ban so I hope it doesnt get extended!

Well girls I am totally fucked !! our airline has cancelled all flights to Mexico until the 8th!! We leave on the 11th and they won't tell us shit just keep saying "wait like the rest of the world!" helpful bastards!! - i'm furious so sorry for swearing lol

I'm in a right stuck as FI and I have to marry before he goes to Afghanistan at the beginning of June. We can't get married here because we both in person have to go to the registry office to sign the paperwork then wait 15 days!! argggggggggggggg

I'm hoping this ban gets lifted or at least they give us our cash back, which at the min they won't, so we can book antigua as it seems its the only place in the world that we can go and take the paperwork with us!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
