Congrats and best wishes to the girls going off to get married this week!  I can't believe how time is flying, I remember when all these wedding dates seemed so far off in the future :)  This is such an awesome community, I feel lucky to be a part of it.  So excited to see a new crop of pictures in a week or two!  Bon voyage!

Thank-you so much for posting your review, it is really helpful for me because it makes my planning much easier. I am having my ceremony at the Aqueduct Ruins and my reception at the Suites. I am not sure yet at which restaurant.

I have so many questions I don't know where to begin. Could you please tell me who did u use to book and set up the Aqueduct. What type of transportation did u use to get to the site.

It would be really helpful if u can briefly describe your ceremony and reception itinerary. I will probably come up with lots more questions that way.

Thank-you,

Tatiana

Our invites were all out a little earlier than six months out, closer to seven actually. Our TA told us September 15th (wedding is January 18th) was the deadline to make a deposit so we put that as our RSVP by date. Even if people choose to find their own way there or wait for a last minute deal we will at least know how many are planning to come.Ours will be a small group though and I think I remember reading that you're expecting quite a large group? If that's the case you might want to insist that nobody leaves booking later than 4 months out. Just for the sake of your planning.

1. How far in advance did you mail out formal invitations?

2. How much time did you give guests before the wedding to RSVP?

Thanks

I used a TA, which has been my biggest nightmare, but they have been able to give refunds to my guests who booked a while back now that the prices have dropped. The TA was working with Apple Vacations, which honors their lowest price and will match. The problems that I ran in to with my TA was that they couldn't keep my guests rooms straight booked them for wrong dates or never got back to them when they tried to call or email them. I had to get on to them a bunch.

I've been so stressed about this whole group rate thing as well, so many people are now saying they're going to book closer to the date so they're not taking advantage of the group rates expiring this month.

Do you have a TA? I would see if they can price match, they might be able to offer a one-time price reduction.

We sent out STD's about 11 months before, and had a wedding website and facebook group set up.  4 months before the wedding we set up our group rate, and the deadline for booking is 2 months before the wedding (this Friday coming up, actually).  We sent formal invites 3 months before, but that's just a formality because everyone already had all the info and group prices.  I put the RSVP deadline with the STD's as 4 months before, but very few people actually RSVP'd then, maybe 10%.  With the formal invites, we set RSVP deadline of about one month before.  But I'm not really waiting on RSVP's - I either talk to people personally to try to get an idea, or just assume they won't be coming :)  I also told people who were undecided that I don't mind if they leave booking for last minute, I'm not going to turn anyone away.  Our weddings at the Beach/Suites are flexible enough to allow even last-minute additions.  I'm not doing a lot of extra things like chair covers and whatnot, so I don't need exact numbers.  Hope this helps :)

thanks for the advise ladies! I will aim to have my formal invitations out 6-7mo before our wedding date and my TA gave me a date of Feb 1st (our wedding date: Arpil 27th) so I guess I'll just use that :-) I wouldn't say we're going to have a large group. Prolly not the smallest but def not the largest. One of the brides on here shocked me. I think she had hundreds of people make it to their wedding! I can't imagine the planning that had to take place for all that to happen. What a grand celebration!

I'm going to start a Facebook page for the guests who are on there. Great idea starrysim!  That's great that you are so laid back in your planning! I'm kinda like that too. But I do worry about when the resort will need things by? Such as the # of guests and that last wedding details document. I think it says to send that to them asap but what does that mean? Like a month before the wedding, is that enough time?

This forum is a life saver and always so helpful. I'm so thankful to have all you wonderful and helpful brides :-)

Jamaica2012,

I sent out STD's in February for our December wedding. Then we had a pre-Jamaica party in July and invited everyone who got a STD. I sent out our formal invitations in the middle of August and I have recieved ~%50 back already! I included the menu choice on my RSVP, after talking with Sylvia, she needs a list of guests 2 weeks before the wedding and their menu selection. There are still a few people who are 'undecided'. If I don't get an RSVP back ( I dated the response for October 15th) and they think they are going to show up, they will end up at the kiddies table  in the corner! It is a wedding, and those who haven't booked need to RSVP, I mean, if we were getting married in the city, the 'undecided' ones most definately would have made their minds up by now~!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
