Chocolate Brides: Hair Question

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies,

I must say, I've been on this site for a few months now and had no clue there were so many "chocolate brides." I'm glad I have this new outlet to get info and get your ideas/feedback.

I have been going through hair woes for the past year and I have to say that once again I'm at a crossroads. I have no clue what to do with my hair on a daily basis nevertheless for my wedding frown.gif A year ago I got my hair died black and had a horrible allergic reaction. So I tried to stop getting chemicals all together but only lasted for about 6 months. By the end of that time I think I was ready to shave my head (too bad I don't have the face for that). I sweat from my scalp and that was the one of the main reasons that natural didn't work for me. Once I'd leave the gym, it just looked like I needed wash/blow out everyday! Then once I did get relaxed again, my hair was so thin I hated it. So, since then I've had a sew-in. Now that I'm ready to get rid of that I have no clue what to do next. Everybody says that I have "nice" enough hair to go natural, but just in that 6 months I broke so many combs that I got sick of it all.

Anyway, sorry to vent but I'm just really confused. FI's sister is one of my BMs and she does hair so I think getting my hair done for the wedding won't be a problem. It's what am I supposed to do now that I'm struggling with!!

Meredith...I don't know what you are talking about not having the face for short hair!! If anything you just need to find the style that best fits you. I'm not to sure about natural hair...but I heard that texturizers are not as harsh as relaxers and perms.

Meredith,

I feel your pain… hopefully this thread will help us out. I also have no clue what do with my natural hair and my fiancé has stated that he would like me to wear my “real” hair for the wedding (ugh) I don’t have a perm so I fear that I will end up with a big afro in Jamaica. I’m sure we will figure out something before are big day. Do you have any idea at all of if you want your hair all up, down, half up and half down…. I’m trying to make that decision and then go from there…..

Thats exactly what I wanted to do. I was going to get the clip-ins to make the bun a little fuller....these were my inspiration pics....I probably have like 20! But these two are my favs:

Meridith, I too know what you mean about your hair woes. My hair won't even keep the slightest curl, so I usually wear it straight. Humidity is awful on my hair which is why I was thinking about getting a sew in for my wedding. Were you thinking about going natural before your wedding or after?

Janine, I love both hair pics, especially the first one.

A flower will look really hot with that hairstyle! I think I might just have to use that hairstyle as well! LOL! I will definitely be wearing a sewin in Jamaica so that hairstyle will definitely work.

Ladies, my wedding is in less than three weeks in Jamaica and I don't know exactly what to do with my hair. I have worn my hair short for years but decided to grow my hair unfortunately when I workout my hair doesn't grow and now it's just a about 2.5 - 3 inches (natural). I don't know what to do, I have only wore a weave once and I had it done in Rome, Italy. I wouldn't know where to go get a good weave sewn in here in MD.

Boy, do I miss my maintanance free short hair. I am afraid even if I perm my hair, the humidity will end up making my hair look like Don King. I have been wearing braids for the past few months. Any suggestions?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
