Bands: Stainless Steel, Titanium, Platinum, White Gold?

Recommended Posts

I would say stainless or tungsten for an everyday ring.

As mentioned before, the titanium and tungsten are really durable, but also really difficult to remove. Joe would just have to be careful that he take his ring off immediately if something happened to his hand!

yes, pretty much anyways. thats why not only did we get him 4 styles, but we got 2 sizes of each so he can go back and forth as the temp (and his weight haha) fluctuate. still only spent less than $50 including shipping!
yeah, i got mike 2 sizes too. he never wears it so I'm glad I only spent $20. I don't care if he wears a ring everyday.

we are returning FIs 600 dollar white gold ring for a titanium one. He works with his hands a lot, so why spend 600 on his ring, when the titanium one looks exactly the same?

I think I might follow you all's lead and buy him two sizes. Good idea!

getting this one.. granted we win the auction on ebay rolleyes.gif

Steve has a titanium band- it does scratch but it's suppose to be very durable.

We looked at tungsten because it's suppose to be the strongest metal and doesn't scratch at all. Steve didn't like the designs so that's why we decided to go with a titanium one (mind you, he wanted a very intricate ring. They have some cool tungsten ones!)

Here's some info from here: Tungsten Rings, exclusive Tungsten Carbide Ring collection by Avant-Garde.

All our tungsten rings are made with the superior Tungsten-Carbide alloy instead of being made from pure metal. Many jewelers offer pure tungsten wedding rings that do not include Carbide. Tungsten(W) in its pure state is just a regular metal and do not poses the hardness and scratch resistance of tungsten-carbide(WC) and can scratch quite easily. Only when it is processed with carbon © and other elements, and compressed under extreme pressure and temperature, it is transformed into Tungsten Carbide (WC) - the hardest metal ever to be used in jewelry making.

All our tungsten rings are cobalt free. There is no cobalt in any of our jewelry. We use nickel binder only. This is very important as the presence of cobalt can cause an adverse reaction with human body, causing skin rashes and discoloration of the ring. What happens is: Skin oils bond with cobalt, bringing it to the surface, resulting in discoloration similar to tarnishing. The cobalt spots cannot be removed by cleaning or even polishing.

Tungsten Ring is the most wear resistant wedding band available today.

Hardness of tungsten carbide ring is comparable to the sapphire gems.

It is between 8.5 and 9 on the Mohs hardness scale (Diamond is a 10 - the highest).

Due to this extreme hardness, Tungsten Ring will hold its polish permanently. Tungsten-Carbide can only be scratched by diamonds and corundum family stones, or abrasive materials and tools containing corundum or diamond. Consequently, these bands can be called, scratch proof or permanently polished.

All of our wedding bands are made with the comfort-fit feature, providing optimal comfort for continues every day wear, and making it easier to put on and take off. All our bands are laser marked on the inside "TUNGSTEN CARBIDE". So you know, you received the highest quality ring.

Our black Zirconium ceramic rings are marked "HIGH-TECH CERAMIC"

Can Tungsten Carbide ring be removed in an Emergency?

Yes! First try soaking your hand in an ice cold water for 1-2 minute, then apply a lubricant (such as petroleum jelly or hand lotion) between the tungsten ring and the knuckle, hold the ring with a towel and pull with a rocking motion.

In an emergency situation where there might be a medical necessity to remove the band (such as hand or finger injury) It is removed by cracking into pieces with standard vice grip locking pliers. The same technique is used for removing ceramic and natural stone bands like onyx or jade.

Place vice grip locking pliers over the band and adjust the jaws to clamp lightly. Release and adjust tightening screw one-forth turn and clamp again. Repeat this process until a crack is heard, and then continue clamping in different positions until the hard material breaks away. Be careful not to slide or rotate the cracked band on the finger.

This is what our jeweler told us too! :)

Titanium Wedding Band Ring

This is the ring we got, he is a carpenter, so we do run the risk of not getting it removed in an accident, but he doesnt think he will wear it much anyways.

I suggest going cheap. no more than $100, I personally know lots of guys that have lost their rings repeatedly. Guys dont wear jewelry often, so its always falling off.

I know 3 guys that lost theirs on the honeymoon...so keep an eye on it, no one wants it lost that quick!

dh said the tungsten thing is a myth...his ring is tungsten and platinum and is SO heavy...in fact, so heavy that he never wears it. so i just ordered one from abbie's place - thanks abbie! we'll see if he actually wears it.

i'd def. go w/ titanium or tungsten. i don't think either scratches. gold and platinum should be out - they'll get scratched too easily.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
