So, my family owns a class A RV. We've taken many, many, many cross country trips with this beast and my dad LOVES driving it. in fact the dork was just talking about how he wants to go out west. So... option A (obviously I haven't talked to my father yet... but he's always down for a good travel!). So, possibly we could drive out to California and pick you guys up and drive back home. Since we live in Wisconsin, MN isn't far at all. Obviously there is the cost of fuel right now, so you'd have to consider that, but I'd guess it'd be a lot cheaper than renting an RV! And since we'd make a vacation out of it, we'd need to know a little in advance so we can leave early and plan some stops on the way out to California! :)
Or, you guys could take the train part way and we could meet you any where along the route.
Option 2 via Trisha: We can drive our RV down to the Chicago train station and pick you guys up and take you home. I know it's not THAT long of a drive from Chicago to MN, but with a premie it might be.
So, sadly those are all the options I have. I'm really sorry you are in this prediciment... but hopefully it'll all work out.
PM me if any of these ideas are appealing to you.
UPDATE - FYI: I have talked with my parents and they are willing to do this! It'd still be expensive though sad.gif Around $2,500 just for gas!
OMG - We so might take you and your amazing family up on this! Right now, the best price option seems to be a train, which is rougly $2000 I think, and that is a train direct from here to Chicago. Then we have to get home to Minneapolis - and that wouldn't be too big a deal, I am sure Paul's parents would drive us, it's about 6-8 hours w/o stops.

But, this sounds a lot better ... not only could we go direct to Minneapolis, we'd have the ability to stop should we want to, or NEED to for medical attention. Wow. You are so generous! And we'd totally be willing to pay for your family's generosity, and gas! We're going to be spending thousands of dollars regardless, so this isn't that far off from what we'd be spending anyway!

We will keep this option on our list, for sure ... how much notice would you need? We can always hang in CA a few more days too once we know more about when Gwen will get discharged. Regardless of whether or not we take you up on this offer, THANK YOU (and your parents!) so much for the offer.

Well Ann, if you need us, just let us know. My mom actually is the one that needs the most advanced notice and she would probably need 3 weeks. Which stinks because you probably won't know that far in advance! Sorry!

Other than that, my father and I are very flexible so we can pretty much take off whenever we need to.

So... let us know :)

BDW girls could rule the world! You guys are really great.

Ann, I just read this thread and the one where Gwen was born, and I can't believe your story. I am so happy for your family that Gwen is getting bigger and stronger every day.

I think driving (or a train) is your safest bet.

If you do drive, make sure the car or SUV has a GPS or buy yourself one. In case you need to find a hospital or anything right away, this will make your life a lot easier.

I think the drive would be about 33 hours. That of course is without stopping all of the time for the baby. This wouldn't be too horrible if you had some people to share the trip with.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
