Dreams Cancun - Questions for those married here!

Recommended Posts

Hi JAS,

Were you upfront that you were brining your own photographer?  I want to do the same, but my TA suggested that I keep it quiet.  Did you swap the services ahead of time or when you arrived on site.  What types of services can you trade?

I will be bringing my own photographer and have already let Claudia know.  My travel agent is TA Jill from this site who was married at Dreams Cancun.  She said that because I am bringing my photographer from home and I am paying for him to stay at the resort, then the resort is still making money so they won't have a problem.  I believe it would be a different matter if you were to hire a local Mexican photographer that would only be at the resort on a day pass.

Claudia offered gazebo decor in exchange for the photographer.

To the past brides,

did any of you pack your OOT bag and items into  a box to be shipped at the airport(instead of carrying it in your suitcases)?

I'm just worried that, as I pass through Customs...they are going to want to open the boxes and see that I have like 60 something baggies of goody bags... that they'll think I'm trying to sell it. and hopefully they wont convascate it :(

Thank you so much @clgriffi7!  You have a very good point!  I am paying for my photographer to stay there as a guest as well!  Did you ask for the gazebo decor, or did she offer that?  How much/what all is included in the gazebo decor?  I wonder what other options I should even ask for.... hmmm!

Also @mich1011, very good question.  I am trying think through my welcome bags as well and how to get everything there.  I am considering shipping a package to my WC at the resort.  I'm just nervous that they wont have it or be able to find it when I arrive.

Any ideas on what to include in welcome bags for guests?

I think the WC's discourage shipping boxes to the resort just because it becomes a very large hassle for them - imagine if every bride did it!  Past brides to Mexico have all made the same suggestion:  take your receipts with you as you travel through the airport.  That way you can tell them it is for a wedding, you will be carrying a big white dress, and you will have receipts for all of the items.  Those past brides have said that as soon as they pull out the pile of receipts customs just waves them on...

Depending on how much I end up taking for OOT bags, I am thinking of trying to put all of the items that can't be damaged into a checked duffle bag.  That way I can pay the extra baggage fee on the way down and then flatten it and carry it back for free in another suitcase.

All of the communication was through my travel agent, so I didn't actually many any particular request as an exchange.  However, I do plan on going to the meeting with the assumption that my exchange includes pretty much anything I want for gazebo decor.  Definitely the flowers on the front two pillars, and I would want those long wodden sticks that come out of the floral bouquet, and even the drapery if I were to want it (at this point I don't think I do though).  So for I think it would be worth somewhere in the $250-$450 range.

I think I remember when I joined this thread late summer of last year that a trade in the $300 range is typical when trading out the photographer.

Oh - another thing about shipping anything to the resorts:  things can get held up in customs so unless you ship them early, they may not have even gotten to the resort by the time you arrive.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
