Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Hey girls,

So I've finalized the departure, and now we officially have a wedding date! May 22, 2012 at 5pm.

We're staying at the Tulum side, and our ceremony is at the Akumal Beach location (wasn't planning for that location, but now that we have it I am stoked!)

My question is, being this far out do I contact my wedding planner or do I wait till closer to? And what sort of questions am I supposed to ask?

Thanks for all your help!

Congrats!
My TA put me in contact with my WC - and she started sending me all these info sheets and forms that I needed to fill out.
So maybe ask your travel agent. Or send a general email to the Bahia Wedding people and give them your confirmation booking # and they'll probably follow up with you.

The reception area for us was by the pool and it was lovely.  Is that where yours will be as well?  It's very beautiful at night with the pool lit up and the Akumal Lobby lit up as well.

As well, has anyone done welcome bags as I am thinking on doing those as well I am just thinking of the easiest way to transport them down there.

I had an entire suitcase of welcome bags!  I shoved as much stuff as I could into the travel mugs that I provided my guests (the resort gives out TINY cups so these came in quite handy).  By utilizing the space inside the mugs I saved a ton of luggage space.

Thanks for anything you guys can provide!!!!

Well that's new!  I've never heard of someone being able to have the ceremony at the Hammock location when staying in Tulum.  Since that's the location where I got married, naturally I'm excited for you!!

My question is, being this far out do I contact my wedding planner or do I wait till closer to? And what sort of questions am I supposed to ask?

I think this depends on what you want.  If you're picky on what restaurant you want your reception in, or if you want the poolside reception I would contact them with that information.  It's a first come, first serve situation with multiple weddings a day, so if you have specific BIG needs (ie: flowers don't really matter at this point) I would contact the wedding coordinator or have your TA do it for you.

Thanks for all your help!

Tlseege is right - may want to contact the WC directly to confirm
I was told that if you're staying at Tulum  - you CAN have ur ceremony at Akumal hammock location but ONLY IF an Akumal Bride doesn't want it. They take priority.
So ya - Id get that in writing

You need to think about what you want in terms of reception when u ask your questions.
The standard is: You have your dinner portion at an A la Carte restaurant (they usually have 1 or 2 predetermined)
and then have your dance poolside OR you can have the entire thing poolside (I chose this because I didnt want to share a restaurant with other resort guests AND I didnt want my own wedding guests to have to use one of their weekly alloted A la carte dinners).
I have prices for a lot of this stuff for Tulum side - so let me know if you want anything.

Thanks for the info TIseege!  I will definately try and get some mugs then for sure!  I was thinking of using a rubbermaid tote, and then just leaving the whole thing down there as then I don't have to pay to bring a suitcase back?  I am not sure yet exactly my plan:)

Sunshine, I am not sure if you would mind me asking how much was the difference of the poolside dinner to the restaurant  dinner?  I am curious, as I was not informed I could do this.  Plus, yeah I agree I don't want my wedding guests to be eating with other resort people as it is a special day.

As well, I am getting married at the Akumal on the beach I should verify which beach location!  My wedding coordinator is Eugenia, does anyone else have her?

I am also looking to buy maraccas for the ceremony, I think I found some online I can paint myself:)

I need to figure out how to put all my info up in the right hand corner of my posts too:)

Just wondering if the people who had their dinner by the pool - did you have the min of 50 people? If you don't mind me asking, what was the price for doing this? Also, if your dinner was poolisde was it one of the "theme" dinners?

Thanks :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
