The resort did not charge me anything to set up my extra items... but of course I got married almost five years ago (dang!).
Tip who you feel deserves a tip and whatever you're comfortable with.

I agree - I'm leaving in just over 2 weeks and trying to figure out the last minute details. What is an amount that is appropriate vs. and amount that's an insult?
Like...if I throw $20 to the DJ is he going to be like "OMG! this is awesome!" or is he going to be like "uh...seriously!?"

I took Trish's advice and we just tipped who we thought deserved it and didn't worry about it from there. We tipped the bartenders generously since they were awesome during our poolside reception. We also tipped the head waiter at our dinner location and our wedding coordinator. I think the DJ might have been tipped... but I am not sure. He was good and I was very happy with the service, but he didn't go above and beyond what was expected like the others.

StylishmeNC, did you go with the resort's DJ? Or did you hire an outside one? I'm still trying to figure out what to do for the poolside reception right now.

We have booked with Bijan, I have read a lot of great reviews, and so far he seems to be wonderful, he gets back to me in a timely manor, and gets a good feel of what type of music you want played. We leave in 10 days, so once we are back I will let you know how he was.

Dont worry too much about it. I have my wedding booked with them 2 weeks ago and I havent heard much back from the resort either. But according to other brides here, the responses from thr resort will come more frequent and flow much better closer to the date. My wedding is booked for the 12th and I'm staying on the resort for honeymoon as well. So maybe I will see you there.Hi Everyone, I have just booked at Akumal about a month ago and as you can tell by my name on here I am no good at this and so far its been pretty disappointing experience, I would appreciate any tips or suggestions or anythning I will probably forget
