So I'm getting married on May 22, 2013 at the Tulum gazebo and I'm so excited! I'm not sure why but unlike a lot of others on here Jazmin has contacted me about reception options, restaurant choices, cake and flowers etc. already. I just wanted to know if anyone has  gotten flowers from outside the resort? And what do you think the best cake choice is? Should we pay for another tier, is it worth it?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Oh and we went with the three milk after everybody on here said it was good and all our guests said how lovely the cake was, our friends went with the cheesecake, personally I wasn't that keen but most other people enjoyed that too. X

I agree with the three milk cake.  Delicious!  And a LOT of the cake from my wedding, and both weddings I have photographed there since, has gone to waste.  So it's really just for your cake cutting picture.  And if you're not hiring an external photographer, then you won't even have professional pictures of that so I'd probably save the money.

Hi everyone,

First post as a member here. I finally decided on having my wedding at the Gran Bahia Principe Akumal in November 2013. The exact dates still need to be confirmed as my TA is getting my final quotes for the resort right now. Just wondering, would anyone know the prices of the wedding packages at BP? I'm wondering if it's worth paying more for the Blissful or Unforgettable package since we would most likely have 30+ guests at the wedding. Thanks!

Just wondering if anyone has a review on the Tequila restaurant at Tulum? We are still seriously thinking of this resort for our April 2014 wedding and would really like to keep with the Mexican feel of the destination and have a Mexican meal for our wedding reception. Do you think that the menu at Tequila is too simple for a wedding? Also, is it fairly nice looking inside this restaurant?

Thanks! :)

Hi Chicago80 - that's a great question about the Gran Bahia Principe - they do NOT allow any outside photographers! which is really unfortunate and forces the wedding couple to use theirs - not cool :( Maybe if enough couples dropped booking with them, they'd become more flexible, but as it stands now - they don't allow any outside photographers - bummer thatswck.gif

That's not true.  They allow photographers if you book a three night stay and they don't have a problem with that at all.  I've photographed two weddings there in the last year.

We just had our wedding in September and they did hassle us a bit about the photographer. I had specifically emailed my coordinator and told her we declined the services as we were using a friend, and she had 'lost' the email or something, and had not passed this message to Arrecife. They told us that our photographer had to be a guest for at least five days (which she was). We stood our ground and it was fine in the end, but sure was an awkward conversation when we arrived in Mexico!

I just had my wedding date confirmed at the Akumal! I'm super excited! :)

I was wondering... I have a friend who lives in Cancun, and he's a photographer. He was invited to the wedding regardless, but we thought it would save us some money if he did the wedding photography. He feels that it's really pointless and a waste of money to have to pay to stay on the resort when he lives in Mexico. Would that mean that I cannot use him as a photographer unless we book 3 days for him at the resort?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
