Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

i'm having similar confusion issues. after 3 days of my travel agent emailing and calling to confirm a wedding date, he finally did and got may 13. but then paloma responded to one of my old emails before i got may 13 and offered may 22.

2 different conversations about the same wedding huh02.gif

and i have a unique name (nyssa) so i can't see paloma getting confused with another nyssa's wedding. but when i asked to confirm the wedding time she asked for the information forms that my travel agent already sent her

i'm just crossing my fingers i actually do have that date and i get the time i want

I have a few random questions:

Does anyone know how much it cost to have the dinner in the restuarant, but to pay for each person instead of having them use their meal ticket?

If I have the dinner outside on the pool deck, are the chair covers and ribbons included?

Has anyone set up a CD Player in the restaurant and just used that? Do you they provide one for you to use? I am having a reception back home with a dj so I don't want to pay for a DJ twice. I just want some background music and maybe just a first dance or something. I'm thinking we'll head to the disco eventually. Thank you!

LOL, my coordinator was Yuritzia and she drove me NUTS! You will not hear from her until a month or so before your wedding. She'd send me things like menus and flower catalogs but that was it. I think in the year and a half I "dealt" with her I got 3 emails. smile105.gif When I did pick out my flowers, when I got there to meet her and plan, she brought out the flower catalog and asked me what flowers I wanted, I said, didn't you read the email? she said "kind of"... The flowers were beautiful and they did a custom bouquet for me with no probs.
It is so hard, but if you can just relax and go with it, things turn out great. Just don't plan on planning anything until you get there.

steph77 do you still have the flower catalog? For some reason I really want to pick mine now lol! I was told not to contact her until 2 months before the wedding since she is busy, you would think she could still answer questions about reception locations. Oh well.

I found this wedding review on Trip Advisor:

Aug 24, 2008

1/4 found this review helpful

Our group of 41 people (2 young children, several grandmas) traveled to Mexico in late July for a wedding. We chose the Gran Bahia Coba based on reviews and great price. It was a good decision, as everyone had a wonderful time! The staff were very accomodating, placing us all in 2 buildings next to each other, near the buffet and the pools. The wdedding coordinator contacted us immediately to go over the wedding plans and the wedding went off without a hitch. The trams were there to pick up all the guests, ck player at the gazebo for music, and the setting on the beach at Tulum was unforgettable! Then they took us by tram to Portofino for a very lavish dinner with appetizer bar and delicious filet mignon. After dinner, they reserved a pool nearby with the bar and our own bartenders, with music for 2 hours of drinking and dancing! It was so much fun! The staff went ourt of their way to make sure eveyone had a good time, and make other group reservations for us at the ala carte restaurants.

This resort is very clean and the grounds well kept. You can get a drink at every turn there is a bar- only the swim up bars do not use top shelf liquor, but all the other bars you can request Absolute or whatever. The pool bar makes a great mojito!

The only negatives to staying here are the lack of chairs on the beach area. We would go down at a leisurly 11-12:00 and there would be no chairs on the beach or pool at Akumel, and it was so crowded. But we found if we walked or took the tram to Tulum beach, we could always find a chair or drag one down from the pool. We like the views from there aso, but remember your water shoes, as it is rocky in the water as it is a reef. The Tulum also had a good buffet lunch that was right out on the beach. Somedays we stayed at the Coba pool- both pools are really nice and we enjoyed the paella lunch poolside one day. We took taxis to see the ruins at Tulum and to go snorkel at Akumel Bay (that is a must -go to the dive shop there and it is only $20. for them to take you on a 1 hour snorkel where you see turtles and lots of colorful fish) The bellboys at the hotel arranged our taxis.

All in all , it was a great trip, good food9 the buffet at Coba is wonderful!) and something for everyone to enjoy!!

Great review - I just wanted to comment on a few things:

I believe the Tulum Buffet lunch on the beach they talked about is actually the Gran Tortuga restaurant. They serve a buffet breakfast & lunch there daily. (There's also the regular buffet beside the main lobby).

They took taxis to Akumal Bay. I'm pretty sure the cost is $10 one way. We would take a collectivo there ($2 per person) and then take a taxi back. The collectivo drops you off on the main highway so it's a little bit of a walk (maybe 1/4 mile) to actually get to the 'gates'. We would've taken a collectivo back, but after snorkelling all day, we didn't feel like walking.

And one last thing... I've heard there is a rule change at the Bahia. You can no longer eat at all the buffets and gourmets unless you have a gold bracelet (you have to stick with the ones where you're staying)- this is just what I've heard, so you might want to find out for yourself. Joel & I got gold bracelets (bride & groom) but the rest of the group got silver (I think).

Also, I'm not exactly sure when the rule change comes into effect (I think it was October or November of this year).

    • OMG these are incredible! Seriously blown away by the thoughtful detail you have put into every aspect of your gifts, your guests are going to be amazed! Props to you for adding so many personal touches and putting in so much time to make these gifts amazing!
    • These bags are amazing!! You are so organized and detailed, I am so impressed! I LOVE the Vistaprint stuff you ordered, the logo is so cute, I love your personalization!
    • I love etsy!! It's a great place to find personalized gifts without such a hefty price tag. I was thinking of getting my bridesmaids personalized necklaces with their names on them. I found these ones that are affordable and you can pick the chain length and different fonts, so you can really make them your own and pick what you know each bridesmaid will want. https://www.etsy.com/listing/595334072/personalized-name-necklace-stainless?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=personalized necklace&ref=sc_gallery-3-9&plkey=a8662525c53ec285c1b46b0f308162d0591edff8:595334072
    • Hi everyone, I am so happy that I am getting married to the love of my life. He proposed me and we are getting married within in a couple of months. And I have started preparations for my big day. I am super excited about a lot of things and also worried about many things.I have some inhibitions about my face and skin. Since I am a working woman, I have never got much time for personal care. This is the right time for it now. I need  proper medical grade skin care. Want to improve my skin tone and texture  I read some details about it here, https://www.mcleanclinic.com/nonsurgical-procedures/non-surgical/skin-care/, and found it really helpful. Can anyone of you suggest me some more tips? Like what I can do at home to have a glow on my face?  Thanks in advance.
