Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Okay, this may seem totally random, but does anyone know what time the sun sets in Riviera Maya at Gran Bahia? Okay, I know it would not be the same time everyday, but our wedding in June 27... our ceremony is at 5, so I was wondering if taking pics at 5:45 or 6pm is too late, if it will be getting dark... I don't know if it is different than Jersey? (well, I know it is different than Jersey, but sun wise!)

On June 27, 2009 the sun sets at 7:33pm so you should be fine. On our wedding day, October 28, the sun sets at 6:14pm and we're doing a 5pm wedding too. I was a little worried about pictures but our photographer knows what they're doing and he said it would be fine. Besides, our TTD is at noon so it will be nice to get some day and night pictures.

Anyone in your party can eat anywhere, if they can get the booking. I'm not exaggerating, look over the menus to see what you like and start booking your dinners. You and your husband can do whatever you want but your guests will only get 3 or 4 depending on the package you got with your TA.

OMG! You are the weather Goddess! I am just kidding, thank you so much for that information, it set my mind at ease. Where did you find that? Online? That is so helpful! I guess our dinner will begin around sunset which will be awesome because I think we are going to do our first dance during dinner... I thought it would be a good time to do it... don't ya think?

We are going through Air Canada vacations and this is what their website says about the new restaurant policy

"Effective Nov 1/08, guests will only have access to the Buffet & Gourmet restaurants of their respective hotel excluding those within the complex. However, they will continue to enjoy access to all of the services and facilities of the Gran Bahia Principe Coba with the exception of the a la carte restaurants"

This is strange my TA called the resort and said we can use all restaurants and if I look on Gran Bahia website it says the same:

Scoutley - she was probably looking at booking with the Coba - so the instructions were specifically for the Coba. I'm sure the rules apply to Akumal and Tulum as well.

And I would assume the reason that some websites say you can eat at all of them is because RIGHT NOW you can. But as of NOV 1/08 you will not be able to eat at the buffets & gourmets at the other sections. (Unless you have a gold bracelet - again, this is just what I've read/heard). You will still be able to eat at the other a la cartes.

As another poster said, her and her husband could eat at as many a la cartes as they wanted - I wouldn't count on this as we were only allowed to book 5 for a 2 week stay. Our guests got 3 for a one week stay.

A lot of these things depend on who your tour operator is. Some tour operators only allow you to eat on your own section, some allow you 3 a la cartes per week, some allow you as many a la cartes as you want - it all depends on what your tour operator has negotiated with the resort.

Oh new policies are always so confusing. We're not so worried about all of this restaurant business...there is lots of food to go around!

I do have a different question though.

The groom has decided that he's going to do a guys day and either go golfing or fishing. So now the bride needs to come up with an idea for the ladies. Any suggestions for a fun afternoon or day outing or activity?

Thanks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
