What to wear the rest of the time?

Recommended Posts

I thought it might be a good idea to have a chat about what kinds of things people have found to wear for the rest of the week (or two) they are at their DW. Any good deals? favourite stores? How about for welcome receptions or rehearsal dinners, what are people wearing?

I myself want to find a hat to wear the first few days before the ceremony to help avoid any burns or unsightly tan lines. But I don't like a lot of hats. Any suggestions?

I wore lots of skirts/dresses just because I knew it would be hot and sticky. I also packed a lot of sleeveless/strapless shirts to avoid the pre-wedding tan lines.

I slipped up and wore a regular tank top to town the day before and just from walking in and out of stores I had slight lines on my shoulders, so beware of that!

Great point Jamy!

Everytime I see something cute I think that would be perfect. I swear in my head I have bought at least five rehearsal dinner dresses. LOL!

Oh, this is an exciting thread!! I love to think about what I'm going to wear & shopping!! I haven't even started shopping yet for "vacation" clothes but I don't plan on going crazy!

The first few days I will be wearing a bikini top that doesn't have straps so I guess you would call it a tube top. My Mom bought me a floppy hat that says Bride. I will try and wear it but I HATE hats so will probably just try and stay in the shade as much as possible. I arrive on a Wed. and get married on Friday so it won't be too hard to stay out of the sun for 2 days.

The rest of the time I will be wearing my bathing suit with cover-ups during the day. When I visit the tropics I love wearing light sundresses at night with wedges. A few of my favorite stores for sundresses are Forever 21, Windsor, Guess and BCBG.

I've been looking for a bandeau swimsuit to wear pre-wedding, but nothing looks good on me.

So, I'm going to tan before we leave and try to stay out of the sun for the few days prior to the ceremony. Shouldn't be hard b/c I will still have a lot to do upon arrival. lol

Otherwise, I am bringing several cute little sundresses for evening wear.

For day wear, it's bathing suits and either shorts or a pareo and some tank tops. I also have a couple of beach cover-up dresses.

And really, what I take for week 1, I will wear again during week 2, b/c I simply don't have room with all of the wedding stuff we have to take to bring different clothes for 2 weeks.

If anyone knows of some good deals on bandeau swimsuits, let me know.

i wore strapless or halter dresses almost every night...i found a bunch on sale at the end of the summer at white house, black market. i also found a plain white skirt for $5 (!) at ann taylor loft. during the day, i wore a bathing suit. i took the straps down when i was laying out, but put them on to walk around. the day before, i got a little burned around my halter bikini top, but i didn't even care about tan lines by the day we got married.

I have to admit that I am lucky that my dress has straps. I am thinking about bringing my bathing suit with me to the first fitting so I know where the straps lie and what I can get away with! I am worried about burning my face and then trying to put make up on. Yikes!

I am loving the store recommendations. I am from Canada and we don't have a lot of those stores up here but with our dollar being so good I am for sure going to drive down to Buffalo for some pre wedding shopping! I will probably go all out and buy a whole new wardrobe! So fun.

Keep those hat thoughts coming please!

I've bought some cute sundresses on sale. I've been stocking up on them for a while. I also got a bright blue swim suit cover-up dress. I thought it would be good to throw on to go eat at the bufett.

I'm also taking many swim suits & some casual tops & shorts.

My dress has thick straps, but the back is shear. I have tried to find a swimsuit that doesn't tie around the neck, but haven't found one I like.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
