I know!! I'm trying to find out more myself. I'll definitely post an update. I think if you do a search on here for Ivan Luckie, he may have more info on it. I'm hoping the local consolate in our area will be able to help us out.

Do you think she'd count as a vendor though? I mean maybe if the person taking your pictures has a hotel wristband on then they'd just assume she is a friend?

I've heard different things about this, so I'm not sure what everyone's experience is? I remember reading at one point that if someone had "professional" equipment that they were considered an outside vendor, but with all the talk of having your photog etc stay at the hotel to avoid the vendor fee I'm not sure they could fine you either way?

if the person is staying at the resort & a guest at the wedding you do not have to pay the vendor fee.  i saw some people post that you don't have to pay the fee if they stay at another hotel but my WC said then i'd have to pay.  so if she is your sister/friend/whoever & staying at the hotel & is a guest you should not get charged.

Hi Sarah,

I unfortunetly used Jennifer's company Sand N Sun vacations. My TA was Jill who works for Jennifer. When I first signed on they were the travel agency for BDW and as you said they are not any longer.

I cannot say enough how horrendouse this travel agency is, just based on my personal experience. I will be doing a full review after my wedding. Basically when I most needed them during this Mexicana experience it actually ended up costing us more by going with them. They promise a stress free experience and it has been anything but. They work with third party suppliers like Travel Impressions and GOGO Travels. They do not actually do the bookings themselves. Because of this they don't have pertinent information at hand and can't book fast enough. I was told one thing and than another and was misinformed about a lot of things. They put the blame on the third party suppliers they work with rather than taking responsibilty.

If I was to do it all over again I would have gone through the actual resort to negotiate a price on rooms. Than have everyone put a deposit down and I know they give you a certain time frame till everyone has to pay for the room in full.

For flights I really would let everyone do their own thing. If you know you have a whole group who want to travel on the same dates than look into group booking with Jet Blue and American Airlines. The problem with airlines is the prices constantly change. Guests some times don't understand that even in a day prices can change. We had guests who booked on orbitz who actually got money back because they have a policy if someone books the same ticket for less you get money back.

By going through a TA I found she just could not get the paper work in fast enough to these third suppliers. So what ended up happening was I may have sent the paper work in the day before but it would take a day or two to get the booking done. By that time the price would have gone up. This happened with my Dad and he was so frusterated about the whole situation. If you just book on line you don't have to wait and you get the price you see.

However this was just my personal experience. I always thought travel agency's could get you better deals, take care of you if flights were canceled, or if people got bumped from rooms and also find you special offers. None of the above happened for us. So if anyone knows about a good travel agency that you have had a great experience with please do share. I would like to know for our honeymoon and its something I want to research more about for my blog. I think this is one of the most important decisions to make for a destination wedding.

I also went through Sun and Sand Vacations and had Jill as my TA. I completely agree with jesmcan's review. The TA was slow to respond and wasn't very helpful when we needed her the most. I was also booked on Mexicana and so were my parents. I ended up rebooking myself on another flight and am disputing the charges from Mexicana myself. My parents were able to rebook through the TA, but I understand that the travel agency did not offer this option to everyone in the same situation. If I could go back and do it again I wouldn't use this company. I've been telling my guests who haven't booked yet to go ahead and do it themselves through the website. I'm not sure if another travel agency would have been better. I've never used one before this time.

Hey ladies, sorry I've been MIA. Been working on my dissertation, preparing for the wedding and celebrating my birthday! Just wanted to let you all know that we finally booked and paid the deposit for the photographer and my hair. We are going with Victor Herrera and Doranna for hair. I can't believe we are only 3 months away! That time really flew by!

Hi Reid,

I did the same we had 12 more guests who ended up coming and I had them booked on their own. I am sorry that you faced the same experience :( I completely know how you feel.

Well now we have our big days to look forward to :) and hopefully after our reviews no one will ever use Sand N Sun Vacations again and go through what we went through.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
