i guess im one of them lucky ones since my parents are offering to pay for our entire wedding and they just booked the hyatt for a toronto reception...nothing huge but just approx. 50 people for some cocktails and hor's d'oeuvre..if we would have to do this on our own there would defnatley not b a reception at all

I have decided to have a reception when we get back...probably a week after, because my FIs parents and sister will be going with us but none of my family will be. My dad has cancer so it makes it hard on me not to just have my wedding here anyways. We are renting a venue, caterer, etc and we are having the dj and the dances, announcements, etc. I thought about getting something like the digital photo frames to download pics of our dw on for the reception too. it is a lot more work but to me worth it to share our special day with the family and friends that aren't able to go with us.

I am so coming to visit you in the tent. Are you moving in with your FI before or after the wedding? I know that sound so weird right? I think my FI and I will move in some place closer to the date of the wedding so that we can save as much as possible. So stressful!!! We kind of wanted to move to Cali (San Diego or something like that) but that means I would have to take the Cali bar and I heard it is so hard!!! So I don't know. What is the teaching situation like in Cali? (FI is a teacher) Maybe we'll move into a tent closer to yours.

We had talked about doing a simple bbq type reception prior to leaving for mexico, when we thought that a lot of the important people that we wanted to come weren't going to be able to. But now most of those people are able to come and I don't want to plan anything else or spend any more money, so we've decided against this. We had also thought that we would do this in place of a shower because I didn't want my sister who was supposed to be my MOH to spend any more money, but now my sisters pregnant and can't come to mexico, so she really wants to throw me a shower, so we're just going to do that. Steve & I already live together and have a house so we don't need a lot of stuff, but it will be fun to register for some fun things. And then the greedy side of me hopes we'll get lots of money instead of gifts!

We probrably won't move in until after we are married. We'll see, honestly I would love to move in with him already but we need to save as much as we can while we are both living at home.

Hmm, I know that Cali is in need of teachers but they dont pay very well. And the bar, I've heard it is difficult. But I am not a teacher nor a lawyer so honestly I wouldn't know!

What I do know is that there is a lovely trailer home park in malibu across from the ocean. Maybe we can upgrade and move in therehuh.gif

We didn't want one either!! A few people who aren't able to come to the wedding have chosen a date and are throwing us a reception about a month after the wedding. We can't stop it. We've tried wacko.gif

It's a nice gesture and I'm sure it will be lovely, at least we have no part in the planning!!!

  • 3 weeks later...

At first we were both against having anything when we got back and my FI still is not to hot on the idea of having a party when we get back. But I wanted to celebrate with the majority of the family and friends (about 100 guests) who will not be able to make it because of babies or fianances or just because they are bastards (sorry, I am a little bit hostile). We decided to have a crab crack/bbq. Never mind we don't have a location or a backyard and there are issues with having it at his parent's house (serious power struggle problems)and my Mom's house needs major work and all of our friends live in apartments....we will still have this darn thing. smile41.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
