I have been trying to find a way of getting in contact with someone at the small little white chapel in playa del Carmen. The church is Nuestra Senora del Carmen. I've attempted to call multiple times but never get an answer and I have also emailed the church. We would love to get married in this church. Really would be a dream our wedding plans are on hold until we can reach someone at the church. I really would appreciate an advice!!! Also any particular resorts recommended for a small intimate dinner on the beach after the ceremony? Thanks again in advance!

Hello everyone, This is my first time "blogging" so here goes nothing. The reasoning for me blogging is to see if I could get any inside tips of what questions I need to ask to make our destination wedding as pain free as possible once we get to the resort and the other is to share some good and bad experiences I've had so far. I wanted to know if anyone has stayed, attended or planned/planning a wedding at the newly opened (Nov. 2015) Secrets Akumal in Riviera Maya and if so what can I expect from the resort itself, your experience's with the wedding coordinators, wedding food, DJ, how to tip the wedding staff, etc... Any honest feedback would be immensely appreciated. I don't always trust the reviews on sites like Trip Advisory. Also, if anyone has any insider tips for upgrades or freebies from the resort would also be great. Let me tell everyone a little about me and my fiancée's experiences so far with planning our destination wedding. First the bad, after making the decision to do a destination wedding we contacted my fiancées high school friend who is a travel agent that works for an independent travel agency (out of respect to my fiancées friend I will not name her agency) that deals with Apple Vacations to help us pick a destination and to book our trip as well be the main travel agent for our guest. She is the one that sold us on Secrets Akumal because of a pre-opening promotional rate. Shortly after hiring her as our travel agent she had some personal issues to attend to and then went on maternity leave after that, but before she left, she handed everything to her "boss" to handle and insured us that we were in good hands. Unfortunately it wasn't. Even though we already paid the resort a non-refundable deposit to reserve our Wedding date, The "boss' kept telling us not to book the trip right away because Apple's charter flights for January from BWI (Baltimore) have not been posted yet and that "if you book your package thru Apple, we would basically getting out flight for free", so we held off on sending out our invitations. After a few weeks went by waiting on the charter information, my fiancée stumbled onto a Facebook post from the resort saying "hurry promotion ends in xx days!!!". We then contacted the agent to notify her of the post but she was of no help as she said oh that's not good and also the charter flights have not posted yet. Because of this my fiancée contacted Apple Vacations and the airlines XTRA airways directly to see what the hold up was. It turned out it was due to contract issues between Apple and XTRA. Long story short, we created a wedding webpage and had to call, text and email everyone that we wanted to attend our wedding and tell them that if you want to attend our wedding you need to contact our travel agent to reserve a room and then either book a flight thru them or book on there own immediately. (this was truly embarrassing and tacky) Luckily enough we have awesome family and friends and they put a deposit down on the rooms thru the agent and booked their own flights. And as our trip approaches we still have to constantly email and call the travel agent to get information and updates out of her. Now for the good: So while still dealing with the above we still need to make arrangements with the hotel for the wedding day and find a DJ, photographer, etc. Due to the fact that we are in Baltimore and the resort is in Mexico, we had to coordinate everything via email, which can be slightly frustrating but overall was pretty painless. The Wedding coordinator at Secrets Akumal Elisa Guadarrama has been great, she helped plan everything down except the photographer, which was not her fault as the photography options that the resort provides were subpar in our opinion. So we decided to look for a local photographer that travels and does destination wedding. So this brings me to our brightest spot of our whole planning experience, our photographer James Berglie of Be Photography in Baltimore, MD. After doing multiple interviews with different photographers we chose James. And I TRUELY TRUELY WISH that we knew about him prior to booking our trip because he can do everything for you, not just photos. Turned out that he is the whole package, he is also a travel agent. If we would've used him as our travel agent and had our guest book thru him, our photos would have been included for FREE. But unfortunately it was to late to do that. Because James was so great, we decided to use him for our engagement photos which I have to say came out great, he even made me look good which is not an easy thing to do. I can't wait to see the photos he'll take at the wedding and how he'll make me look good again. This is basically how our planning has gone so far and I look forward to some feedback and tips as the forums on here have been helpful to us throught this planning process. Thank You Herman

31 days, my guests and I are exactly 1 month away from boarding a plane to celebrate our wedding week. In the lead up to the wedding/trip, I thought it would be fun to do a countdown on our wedding website of tips, tricks and advice surrounding travel to Mexico, specifically the Cancun and Riviera Maya area. We've never been to that side of Mexico so I thought I would reach out to my bride and bride-to-be friends on the forum. If you could help me come up with tips, tricks and advice for our trip, I would really appreciate it. This can be anything from tips at the airport (e.g. stay away from timeshares), must-see places (e.g. touristy areas, restaurants, beaches, etc) and if anyone has any tips for Moon Palace (our wedding resort) that would be fantastic. Thanks in advance

Hello, I am new to this site and hoping to get some help making a decision on which resort to book for my wedding in November 2016. I have spent countless hours going over the different options and feel like I am going crazy! My goal is to keep the trip as cost effective for my guests as possible while having a beautiful beach wedding with some good food and dancing.. I am a low maintenance, easy going bride, all I want is to do is pick a couple flowers and show up with a dress and my man As result I have narrowed it down to the following: 1. Riu Yucatan (I LOVE the beach!) 2. Grand Bahia Principe Tulum 3. Riu Playacar If anyone has any experiences with any of these hotels I would love to hear it! I read a lot of reviews on Trip Advisor and it's hard to tell which are unbiased and which are fake.. Thank you! Joanna

Hello Everyone! I'm at the beginning stage of planning/booking. Only thing set in stone is my dress! lol. I've been looking through this forum for months trying to narrow down which resorts to book for January 2017. I am going this coming January to Mexico for vacation at the Platinum Yucatan and hoping to book with GSP if they offer rooftop weddings. Here's my list of must-haves: large all-inclusive resort with multiple buffets and restaurants disco family friendly with an adult side Things that are negotiable: unique ceremony site (preferably a rooftop; place where I can wear heels) contemporary looking close to Playa Del Carmen Here's my list of AI resorts: 1. Moon Palace - Although it doesn't offer a rooftop wedding, Beach palace (a sister site) does. Was wondering if anyone has ever stayed at Moon Palace and had their ceremony at Beach Palace? 2. Grand sirenis Mayan beach 3.Paradisus Playa Del Carmen La Esmeralda/La Perla 4.Grand Sunset Princess/Yucatan Anyone have any recommendations on resorts to check out?

Today felt like a horrible nightmare that I keep hoping I'm going to wake up from. We've had our wedding booked for April 9th at the Ocean Coral & Turquesa for past last 4 months. We've been beyond excited.. created cool website with pics... printed invites & save the dates.. Just really fell in love with the property (sans seaweed issues :-) But found out today that the travel agent we've been working with didn't hold the rooms (and didn't inform us on how important and urgent it was to put them on hold) and now the entire hotel is full. No Vacancy. Sold out until the day after our wedding. I'm not typically a "drama mama" but today, I'm Totally Freaking Out! We need to find another 3.5 to 5star all-inclusive venue in PDC, with a similar price point, that's available on April 9th (or worse case senario, the 10th). And can also accommodate 40-60 rooms for our guests. Help! Fellow Brides & wedding angels... I need a Miracle✨????????✨ Milagro :-) Any suggestions or quick tips you can offer are warmly welcomed!

Hello all. We are planning our November 2016 wedding and are having trouble deciding on the resort. Any previous or future brides with information on the grand bahia tulum or sandos playacar, PLEASE HELP! We have travelled to the Grand Bahia before, but have not visited Sandos. Thanks:)

I'm a newbie to this forum and have never 'blogged' before (is that even what this is called?!?) Anyway, we're excited to be getting married in April 2016 at Ocean Coral & Turquesa in Riviera Maya! And of course, would like as much info as possible to help guide the way! Any info from former brides, grooms, guests, etc. at the OC&T is warmly welcomed & much appreciated!! Specific current questions are: * Anyone have a travel agent who you love who does/did a great job booking 30-50 rooms at this resort? At a competitive rate? * Several of our guests are bringing babies & young children. Any words of wisdom on childcare and how to go about managing having nannies? Possibly from off property? * Still deciding on whether or not to bring our own photographers & videographer. Definitely want to do a trash the dress session the week after the wedding. Any recommendations? * Anyone brought your own decorations, decor to this resort? Did you bring it on the plane or have it sent ahead? What would you recommend? Any thoughts, tips, tricks on ANY of these questions (or other info you think is important) will be received with MUCH GRATITUDE <3! Thanks so much ~

Hi Everyone! So I've decided to start a planning thread to help keep myself on track and also because I've read some other ladies' blogs (@@Wafflesmom and @) and they've been extremely helpful in sharing their wedding planning process and have encouraged me to do the same for others as well. So just a little bit about myself-- my name is Jess, recently moved to Vancouver from Toronto; my fiancé and I have been dating for almost 6 years now and were engaged in Toronto in November 2014, and got to celebrate with our families before we moved to Vancouver. I studied in graphic design so I want to be the DIY/craft type bride and try to customize and design as many things as I can myself. The Engagement: My Fi, John, proposed on November 14, 2014 where we had our very first date in Toronto down at Dundas Square. We sat in the exact same spot as we did 5 years ago. Although we both knew the proposal was eventually coming, I was completely caught off guard and surprised. That night, they were rehearsing for the Festival of Lights so Dundas Sq. was filled with dancers, lights, music...it was a really nice environment to be in. Funny enough-- our friend who is a photographer was shooting for the rehearsal and saw us just after the engagement happened for an un-planned engagement photo opp! Destination: After starting to discuss how we both envisioned our wedding to take place, we both decided that it would be best suited as a destination wedding since we had family from all across the country (Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and NYC). It made the most sense for us to all fly out to one destination vs. having it in Vancouver or Toronto. We also found that from our experience at most weddings, people are quite reserved and so we wanted our wedding to be a place where people could really enjoy themselves, party, and not be worried about having to work or have any other commitments the next day. And so we decided destination wedding it is! In the first start of our process, I immediately started researching for wedding planners and so we hired Lexi from the Wedding Butlers in Vancouver. In our experience thus far, she's been super responsive (she always gets back to me within the next day, if not the very same day), very informative, and extremely honest which is something I really appreciate. Initially we wanted a more intimate setting where we could really have the wedding we envisioned (rustic, beach with some greenery-- not just a resort with sand and water). So we were deciding between Azul Beach Hotel and Now Sapphire. After further contemplation, John's #1 priority were our guests and making sure that they would have an amazing time not only at our wedding but during the entire week. Which is when we landed on Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort. Our quotes expire this Wednesday, but my only reservations so far are that I haven't had any luck finding pictures or having the wedding coordinators on site at MP to send me photos of their wedding locations and venues at the resort. So hopefully, if any of you ladies have information on that, please share! Thanks in advanced!!

Hello beautiful brides! I wanted to start a forum to share wedding information about the Cancun resorts managed by Playa Resorts. I've booked my April 2016 wedding at the Hyatt Ziva opening in Cancun November 2015. It is formerly the Dreams Cancun resort. Here is a photo of one of the wedding venues available at Hyatt Ziva and the Hyatt wedding brochure. I think the venue is going to be gorgeous! I look forward to chatting with other Playa brides! I’m finally doing it!!! I’ve been thinking about starting my thread weeks after joining this forum, but for a number of reasons I didn’t – fear of my thread not being interesting, lack of free time and what if someone didn’t like something I chose? Through communicating with the amazing ladies on this thread, I’ve learned that we are all here for the same purpose, and this is the most supportive group of women I have ever encountered. When I started planning #deecolwedding2016 (yes, that’s our hashtag ) I didn’t know what to do. All I knew was: Half of our guests will be flying from Toronto, half from the UK and possibly a few from New York, Florida, Nova Scotia, France, and Ireland We needed to find a location that wasn’t unrealistic in both distance and price for all of our guests to travel to We wanted our Canadian guests to pay between $1200-1400 I’m hoping that with this thread I will not only be able to keep myself organized and get great feedback from the community, but also to help any future brides who were confused in the beginning like me and maybe have some similarities to my story. So here we go… just over 7 ½ months to go: 225 days until we leave for Mexico and 232 days until we say I do! How We Met My girlfriend Victoria was having her 25th champagne birthday in Las Vegas in August 2011. On our first day we met a group of guys that were really cool we ended up hanging out with. On our second day, we went to the MGM Wet Republic pool party. These guys bought a cabana, booze, the works, so the day went on and the vodka was flowing... I had refused to go into the water because, well, not many people actually get out to use the washroom, and they’re drinking loads… you get it… Victoria decided she was going to have one of the guys throw me in the pool. So there I am, in this disgusting pool, wading my way out of it, and this gorgeous English accent beside me says “You look nice”. I turned to look at him and he was so handsome, I couldn’t believe it. We talked for a bit and then decided to exchange numbers and meet up later that night. I got back to my room with the girls and slighty slurry said “Guys, I just met my husband!”. Later that night, Colin showed up at Tryst nightclub (pic above) and we spent the rest of our holiday together. We had this instant connection. Saying goodbye was so hard, we both cried, it was like we have known each other for ever and were a couple. He said he’d call me when he landed back in the UK and I thought I’d never hear from him… “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”. Well it didn’t. He called me the day he landed, and the day after, and we bbm’d all day and night inbetween calls. Then, 5 days after we met, we decided to go for it, neither of us wanted a long distance relationship but we decided we were just going to make it work, we had to. I booked a flight to London to visit for a week in October 2011, we went to Venice for a couple days in between and I met his family. He flew to Toronto one month later in December 2011 for my birthday and met my family. I applied for my UK visa and moved to London in February 2012. We lived there together for almost two years, Colin got permanent residency to Canada and we moved back in January 2014. The kicker – Colin was previously engaged. She cheated on him with his boss so obviously that ended. He had already booked his stag with a few of his friends in Vegas and with the wedding being called off, he asked his friends if they want to postpone it by a few months and go anyway. They postponed to that weekend in August 2011 that I was there. We had a magazine article written about us when we were in London and the story of how we met, the headline was “I Met My Girlfriend On My Stag-Do!” but the best part was that his ex saw it! haha The Proposal Colin and I always knew we would get married. But with moving back to Canada and trying to get permanent jobs, we also knew we had to wait. On November 28th, we had made reservations to go out for my birthday dinner (my Birthday is December 1st). That day Colin had called me to tell me he got a job offer! Obviously I was beyond thrilled and couldn’t wait for that evening, we had so much to celebrate! I did have a moment of “He got a job, is he proposing?” but decided to push it aside and enjoy the awesome night we had ahead of us. I bought some champagne on the way home and should of caught on when I suggested we have some but he said to wait until after dinner, I thought he was just being sensible. We had a delicious dinner and when we were leaving he asked if I wanted to go for a walk on the pier, we were in Port Credit in Mississauga and you can see the Toronto lights from there. Since it was almost December I said “ummm not really, it’s a bit cold” and he said “Trust me, I’ll make it worth your while”. My heart dropped into my stomach. OMG it’s happening. Once we hit the spot you can see the lights, he dropped to one knee and said “Will you be my wife?” I said a combination of “omg” “are you serious?” “holy sh**” and eventually “YES!” I called my mom and she cried like someone had been murdered. I called my dad and he already knew because Colin called him when he went to the washroom I’m really close with my Dad and he loves Col to pieces so this meant the world to me. We went to pick out my ring the next day and we had already invited a bunch of friends over for my birthday that night so it turned into a triple celebration! The Wedding – Why Destination? Along with always knowing we would be married, we also always knew we were going to have a destination wedding. All my friends and family are mostly in Canada, and all his side is mostly in England. We didn’t think it would be fair to ask just one side to travel, it just made the most sense to us. This way everyone gets a great vacation, our friends and families get to spend a week together getting to know each other and we get to spend time with the UK family we don’t get to see too often anymore. Deciding on a Resort, Travel Agents and Getting Pricing As most brides will tell you, this is one of the most stressful parts… Our first task was to figure out what resorts will cater to guests from both the UK and Canada and offer packages. Colin took the reins on this as he is in travel, and not that he gets any inside info or discounts, but he knows where to look. We decided on Riviera Maya, Mexico and narrowed our choices down to the Grand Sirenis (due to @calgarybride2015 thread and review – I still think she should get a commission from them) and the Grand Bahia Principe Coba. We gathered some quotes, from the airlines directly, travel agents and from Romantic Planet. So far the GBP was looking like less money for both the Canadians and Brits. I work part time for a marketing company making drinks and promoting brands etc, one weekend I was working at the Toronto Food & Drink Market and there was a bridal show going on in the next hall. One of the vendors from the show came to me on the Sunday and “needed a Caesar” well, I “needed to get in that show” so she handed me her exhibitors pass and off I went. I did a quick loop and a guy from Total Advantage Travel & Tours stopped me. I told him I was pretty much ready to book and he said he could beat the quote I got. So I thought ‘what do I have to lose’ and emailed him the next day. Their first quote for GBP was already $100 less than Romantic Planet and after going back and forth, doing a bit of price matching and $30 more being taken off the price … we were able to get a group rate through Total Advantage for $1259 pp with Air Canada. We made sure the London flights matched up and weren’t too expensive and secured our deal. To date we have 19 booked from Canada and 21 booked from the UK, 40 total including Col & I. We anticipate about 10 more to book, but I am beyond happy with our number, it’s more than I could have ever asked for and I can’t wait!!! We have decided on a legal ceremony, although it's a bit more hassle, we wanted to have everything done at once, and it will be worth it Engagement Photos We had these done on February 7th, 2015 in High Park, Toronto Save the Dates and Invitations The Save the Dates were sent out at the end of April once we secured our Canadian group rates and the UK flights were released and activated our wedding website. We sent our Invitations out Mid-May. We have all information available on our website including the RSVP, as we would have replies coming in from so many countries it saves us a bit of money as well. We update the pricing for the UK guests as often as possible on the travel page of the website. The final rsvp date will be January 31st, 2016. I have my dress, flowers, bridesmaid dresses and a couple other things on the go. I didn’t expect to be able to start this today so I will update the rest shortly

Hi Everyone! We are looking at getting married in the Mayans and have looked a few resorts that fit our taste. So far the following resorts have rates that are reasonable for our guests: Moon Palace, New Sapphire and Royalton Riviera. Moon Palace is bit pricer but we've included on the list based on past experience with Palace Resorts. We would like to hear to your experiences of any these place. So far we we are leaning towards Royalton, but Moon Palace offers extra benefits that we can't leave off the list. Please share details, photos and fees that are usually not mentioned. You can post on here on email me at: [email protected] Thanks!

Hello everyone! I am new to the site and looking to marry next August. Now, here is my dilemma. I want a Catholic wedding but have very limited options. I also have one huge family that surpasses the minimum of 20/40 people for each package I have found. I also want a private reception (the longer it runs the better, 3 hours minimum.) I have narrowed it down to the following three resorts: Dreams Tulum – worry is price per added person, hefty tag Grand Palladium – have never been to any of their resorts/would be going in blind. Riu Palace Mexico – Love the Riu chain and but not sure about the chapel If anyone can give me any feedback on any of the three I would be most appreciative. I am just trying to have my guests enjoy a great resort abd a beautiful catholic wedding at the same time. Thank you in advance!

Hello all brides past and future! I live in the UK and am planning my wedding in early 2017, I'm also new to the site!! I'm currently trying to pick a date and resort. I'm trying to find something affordable for my guests to come to as a lot of the resort I've looked at are 5+ stars and an absolute fortune for my guests which I'm uncomfortable with. I've got guest coming from Canada, UK, US and Germany. Does anyone have any experience as to how group packages could potentially work for me as eveyrone is coming from the different place? With this in mind I'm currently mainly looking at Barcelo Tucancun and the Grand Bahia Pricipe. Has anyone recently had a wedding at either of them? Does anyone know what the seaweed situation is at right now as well (are they cleaning it up so it's not an issue?, is still really bad?) Barcelo Tucancun - has an absolutely beautiful beach so I thought it would be perfect for my beach wedding but I can't find any recent reviews on it which concerns me. Grand Bahia Principe - is a beautiful complete with 4 different resorts I think. Tulum, Coba and Luxury Sian Ka'an and Luxury Akumal. How does this complex work? Can your guests stay at any of them and still attend the Wedding? There seem to be conflicting reports on tripadvisor in regards to this. My biggest concern with this complex is all the seaweed pictures of the beaches on tripadvisor, that's the last thing I want on the background of my pictures. If anyone can connect with me in regards to their experience I'd really appreciate it!!! Thank you!!!! Kat

My husband and I are planning a trip for Jan 2016 as an anniversary/My 30th Bday/Recovery celebration and I need some help. We got married at Playacar Palace in Jan 2014 and honeymooned at Cozumel Palace and loved it at both places, they were nice, small, great food and service, and had very fun places to visit/explore around them. For this trip I'm open to some other options and was wondering what you guys would suggest? The issue; I'm having ankle surgery in Sept, so I will be 4 months into the 6 month recovery which is where I have hit the wall as far as planning. I had the other ankle operated on last year and know 100% that there's no way I could handle walking a mega resort at that point....So I need some advice on nice smaller resorts to look into. The places I've looked at/considered Akumal Wellness Resort and all of the Palace resorts except Moon. Requirements (in order of importance): - Caribbean/Mexico (east side) - Small size - All inclusive - Nice beach - Good food/service - Pool (not manditory) - Near a town/touristy area for shopping/cultural stuffs The goal is basically to go relax on the the beach, drink, eat, and not do too much else I can't really do many excursions sadly (it honestly makes me so sad because other then a cenote/ek balam tour (which I highly highly recommend), we didn't get to do much on the Riviera side during our wedding because we were busy), but if you have ideas on anything like boat tours or stuff that didn't require much walking, that would be greatly appreciated too So! Any experience at the places I've looked at? Or suggestions or recommendations for other resorts? Thanks!
