Things to Do in Cancun-Riviera Maya: The Camel Safari

The Cancun-Riviera Maya is thriving with an abundance of fun activities and adventures for you and your guests, but perhaps one of the most unique experiences one can encounter is the Camel Safari at Maroma. The Camel Safari allows participants to traverse atop these incredible creatures through a jungle-like landscape bordering along Maroma Beach, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Designed for both children and adults, this sand dune adventure will give you quite a thrill while also giving your breathtaking views of the incredible Caribbean coast. The ride itself is about 45 to 60-minutes long with a stop in between to enjoy the gorgeous seaside views and also a chance to feed these sweet and friendly camels with carrots. You'll also have ample time to take great photos with the camels. While this safari tour will get your heart racing, it's quite a comfy ride and the camels walk at a leisurely pace so you still get to enjoy the scenery and take photos or video as you ride along the path. It's a great experience for couples as well as their guests -- so a Camel Safari would be a great idea as a group outing, that also welcomes children if your group has a combination of both young and old. Hello Everyone! I'm at the beginning stage of planning/booking. Only thing set in stone is my dress! lol. I've been looking through this forum for months trying to narrow down which resorts to book for January 2017. I am going this coming January to Mexico for vacation at the Platinum Yucatan and hoping to book with GSP if they offer rooftop weddings. Here's my list of must-haves: large all-inclusive resort with multiple buffets and restaurants disco family friendly with an adult side Things that are negotiable: unique ceremony site (preferably a rooftop; place where I can wear heels) contemporary looking close to Playa Del Carmen Here's my list of AI resorts: 1. Moon Palace - Although it doesn't offer a rooftop wedding, Beach palace (a sister site) does. Was wondering if anyone has ever stayed at Moon Palace and had their ceremony at Beach Palace? 2. Grand sirenis Mayan beach 3.Paradisus Playa Del Carmen La Esmeralda/La Perla 4.Grand Sunset Princess/Yucatan Anyone have any recommendations on resorts to check out?

Hello everyone! I am at the beginning stage of planning and I am already going crazy. lol I am having a destination wedding at Catalonia, Riviera Maya, Mexico in May 2017. I am preparing an information packet for my guests and I have so far: Announcement Letter Travel checklist U.S. Passport Application to renew and for first time applicants I will be putting save the dates boarding pass Do you think I need anything else? Now as far as party favors, Has anyone shipped directly to the hotel? Or should I bring them with me in a luggage and pray that they don't get lost in transit Any suggestions/ideas would be great. I'm a newbie to this forum and have never 'blogged' before (is that even what this is called?!?) Anyway, we're excited to be getting married in April 2016 at Ocean Coral & Turquesa in Riviera Maya! And of course, would like as much info as possible to help guide the way! Any info from former brides, grooms, guests, etc. at the OC&T is warmly welcomed & much appreciated!! Specific current questions are: * Anyone have a travel agent who you love who does/did a great job booking 30-50 rooms at this resort? At a competitive rate? * Several of our guests are bringing babies & young children. Any words of wisdom on childcare and how to go about managing having nannies? Possibly from off property? * Still deciding on whether or not to bring our own photographers & videographer. Definitely want to do a trash the dress session the week after the wedding. Any recommendations? * Anyone brought your own decorations, decor to this resort? Did you bring it on the plane or have it sent ahead? What would you recommend? I have been trying to find a way of getting in contact with someone at the small little white chapel in playa del Carmen. The church is Nuestra Senora del Carmen. I've attempted to call multiple times but never get an answer and I have also emailed the church. We would love to get married in this church. Really would be a dream our wedding plans are on hold until we can reach someone at the church. I really would appreciate an advice!!! Also any particular resorts recommended for a small intimate dinner on the beach after the ceremony? Thanks again in advance!

Hey ladies ! So it's come time to put down my deposit for Azul fives ! I'm a bit nervous because of one thing, we really would love to have our ceremony on the Sky deck, but what about rain! I know they give you an alternate location, but what about the 1800usd that has been paid? I'm guessing it wouldn't be refunded? Any insight to this , thanks .

Hello everyone! I've been delaying on planning my wedding for awhile and I decided to stop procrastinating and finally picked the date (November 5th, 2016), but not the resort! I'm glad I ran into this site, there's tons of info here. I've been conflicted on choosing these three resorts - Azul Fives, Dreams Riviera, and Now Jade. For anyone what have visited these resorts, what are the pros and cons? I like that all three have clean and modern look, but all three have varying price range. The resort I'm leaning toward is Azul Five mainly because it's gourmet-oriented (I like good food), but I'm wondering if I'm "missing out" on better package and quality on other resorts. So far, in terms of group rates, Dreams Riviera has the most expensive rate, then Azul Fives, then Now Jade. I'm surprised that there is only two Azul Fives review on this site, I thought it would be more popular than that. Anyways, please help! Thanks!

Hi everyone: So I've been planning in a vacuum and with my wedding a little more than two months away and the small things needing attention, I'm starting to feel the little bit of panic building. 80 GUESTS and counting! I had a destination wedding to reduce my numbers. Didn't work too well huh? I'm having the wedding at Moon Palace Cancun and so far I don't have any major complaints. My offsite coordinator Lizet has been an absolute doll! :DI had heard that people wouldn't hear from their coordinator until much later but Lizet was in contact with me with less than a month after we had the date confirmed. I know I can be an absolute pain with all the emails but she has dutifully answered them in a relatively quick manner (1-3 days average). We have the ceremony at the Bugambilias gazebo, with the Tuscan terrace for the cocktails and we move inside for the reception. I have the majority of my vendors lined up: Décor: Gama Flowers: Hotel Cake: Hotel Photography: Friend of future hubby is coming down as a guest to do our lovely pics Videography: AmorAmor Weddings (outside vendor - their work looks absolutely amazing! Music: PSAV (though I also have DiscoMovil on contract because of the great reviews that I have read. But when I told PSAV the price I was getting including the vendor fee was cheaper than what they had, they not only matched it but gave me a $200 discount for an incentive. The only reason I still have DiscoMovil is because I am concerned about the music. I work in the music industry hence why I'm being so picky). In the air Makeup: I am an Black bride so I am very concerned about what my hair and makeup will look like. Especially since I am a natural hair bride. I'm on the fence about working with MVP hair and beauty. ANY HELP IN WITH THIS? What I'm not particular happy about: Travel agent: L and S Vacations. Just venting here. We met Lindsay at a wedding expo here in NYC. And in the beginning it worked well with choosing our hotel and putting down our deposits. She also fits the bill on our save the dates and send them out. But here's where the trouble started. We decided to do magnets for our save the date. At least 20% of our guests never received them. Could it have been that the magnets got stuck somewhere? Shouldn't there have additional paper inside of the envelope to make that it didn't happen? I don't know because no return address were ever put on the envelopes. So if it was a matter of a wrong address, we didn't know. Which meant that I had purchase additional save the dates and send them out. All of mine made it to the intended person. *shrugs* When the time came for the guests to begin to make the travel arrangements, it felt like I didn't have a travel agent. Because however many times you called, the phone was never picked up. NEVER. I had multitudes of guests complaining that they couldn't get through to make their room reservations. And of course it was the last few days to book and it was a panic. I was having mini heart attacks for days, trying to make sure the MVPs were getting what they needed, diverting them to emails to contact Lindsay. And to make matters worse, she was out of the country and took on more work than she could have handled (5-6 other weddings that had the SAME deadline that we had). The month of October was exhausting - from people complaining about prices, to rooms to never-ending questions that should have been answered by L and S Vacations. Then it became an issue about changing names on the rooms. Even though each invoice/contract stated that we had 91 prior to the wedding make changes, she shot them down saying it wasn't possible to change; that if they needed a room they would have to book an entirely new room without the savings we had before. I'm a lawyer so I went to town on it and got her to read her own contract. Finally she apologized and made the changes. If I knew what I know now, I would have just worked with the hotel myself. They have been very attentive and I really don't need L and S Vacations for anything else. The only upside was the payment plan that guest could do but...sigh. I wonder if it was worth a lot of aggravations. Sigh. Anyway I'm sure I'll be back to lament about my peacock theme, my 14 member wedding party and the drama to come. Stay strong ladies, Kristina

Hello everyone! I am new to the site and looking to marry next August. Now, here is my dilemma. I want a Catholic wedding but have very limited options. I also have one huge family that surpasses the minimum of 20/40 people for each package I have found. I also want a private reception (the longer it runs the better, 3 hours minimum.) I have narrowed it down to the following three resorts: Dreams Tulum – worry is price per added person, hefty tag Grand Palladium – have never been to any of their resorts/would be going in blind. Riu Palace Mexico – Love the Riu chain and but not sure about the chapel If anyone can give me any feedback on any of the three I would be most appreciative. I am just trying to have my guests enjoy a great resort abd a beautiful catholic wedding at the same time. Thank you in advance!

Hi Everyone! So I've decided to start a planning thread to help keep myself on track and also because I've read some other ladies' blogs (@@Wafflesmom and @) and they've been extremely helpful in sharing their wedding planning process and have encouraged me to do the same for others as well. So just a little bit about myself-- my name is Jess, recently moved to Vancouver from Toronto; my fiancé and I have been dating for almost 6 years now and were engaged in Toronto in November 2014, and got to celebrate with our families before we moved to Vancouver. I studied in graphic design so I want to be the DIY/craft type bride and try to customize and design as many things as I can myself. The Engagement: My Fi, John, proposed on November 14, 2014 where we had our very first date in Toronto down at Dundas Square. We sat in the exact same spot as we did 5 years ago. Although we both knew the proposal was eventually coming, I was completely caught off guard and surprised. That night, they were rehearsing for the Festival of Lights so Dundas Sq. was filled with dancers, lights, music...it was a really nice environment to be in. Funny enough-- our friend who is a photographer was shooting for the rehearsal and saw us just after the engagement happened for an un-planned engagement photo opp! Destination: After starting to discuss how we both envisioned our wedding to take place, we both decided that it would be best suited as a destination wedding since we had family from all across the country (Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and NYC). It made the most sense for us to all fly out to one destination vs. having it in Vancouver or Toronto. We also found that from our experience at most weddings, people are quite reserved and so we wanted our wedding to be a place where people could really enjoy themselves, party, and not be worried about having to work or have any other commitments the next day. And so we decided destination wedding it is! In the first start of our process, I immediately started researching for wedding planners and so we hired Lexi from the Wedding Butlers in Vancouver. In our experience thus far, she's been super responsive (she always gets back to me within the next day, if not the very same day), very informative, and extremely honest which is something I really appreciate. Initially we wanted a more intimate setting where we could really have the wedding we envisioned (rustic, beach with some greenery-- not just a resort with sand and water). So we were deciding between Azul Beach Hotel and Now Sapphire. After further contemplation, John's #1 priority were our guests and making sure that they would have an amazing time not only at our wedding but during the entire week. Which is when we landed on Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort. Our quotes expire this Wednesday, but my only reservations so far are that I haven't had any luck finding pictures or having the wedding coordinators on site at MP to send me photos of their wedding locations and venues at the resort. Hello everyone, This is my first time "blogging" so here goes nothing. The reasoning for me blogging is to see if I could get any inside tips of what questions I need to ask to make our destination wedding as pain free as possible once we get to the resort and the other is to share some good and bad experiences I've had so far. I wanted to know if anyone has stayed, attended or planned/planning a wedding at the newly opened (Nov. 2015) Secrets Akumal in Riviera Maya and if so what can I expect from the resort itself, your experience's with the wedding coordinators, wedding food, DJ, how to tip the wedding staff, etc... Any honest feedback would be immensely appreciated. I don't always trust the reviews on sites like Trip Advisory. Also, if anyone has any insider tips for upgrades or freebies from the resort would also be great. Let me tell everyone a little about me and my fiancée's experiences so far with planning our destination wedding. First the bad, after making the decision to do a destination wedding we contacted my fiancées high school friend who is a travel agent that works for an independent travel agency (out of respect to my fiancées friend I will not name her agency) that deals with Apple Vacations to help us pick a destination and to book our trip as well be the main travel agent for our guest. She is the one that sold us on Secrets Akumal because of a pre-opening promotional rate. Shortly after hiring her as our travel agent she had some personal issues to attend to and then went on maternity leave after that, but before she left, she handed everything to her "boss" to handle and insured us that we were in good hands. Unfortunately it wasn't. Even though we already paid the resort a non-refundable deposit to reserve our Wedding date, The "boss' kept telling us not to book the trip right away because Apple's charter flights for January from BWI (Baltimore) have not been posted yet and that "if you book your package thru Apple, we would basically getting out flight for free", so we held off on sending out our invitations. After a few weeks went by waiting on the charter information, my fiancée stumbled onto a Facebook post from the resort saying "hurry promotion ends in xx days!!!". We then contacted the agent to notify her of the post but she was of no help as she said oh that's not good and also the charter flights have not posted yet. Because of this my fiancée contacted Apple Vacations and the airlines XTRA airways directly to see what the hold up was. It turned out it was due to contract issues between Apple and XTRA. Long story short, we created a wedding webpage and had to call, text and email everyone that we wanted to attend our wedding and tell them that if you want to attend our wedding you need to contact our travel agent to reserve a room and then either book a flight thru them or book on there own immediately. (this was truly embarrassing and tacky) Luckily enough we have awesome family and friends and they put a deposit down on the rooms thru the agent and booked their own flights. And as our trip approaches we still have to constantly email and call the travel agent to get information and updates out of her. Now for the good: So while still dealing with the above we still need to make arrangements with the hotel for the wedding day and find a DJ, photographer, etc. Due to the fact that we are in Baltimore and the resort is in Mexico, we had to coordinate everything via email, which can be slightly frustrating but overall was pretty painless. The Wedding coordinator at Secrets Akumal Elisa Guadarrama has been great, she helped plan everything down except the photographer, which was not her fault as the photography options that the resort provides were subpar in our opinion. So we decided to look for a local photographer that travels and does destination wedding. So this brings me to our brightest spot of our whole planning experience, our photographer James Berglie of Be Photography in Baltimore, MD. After doing multiple interviews with different photographers we chose James. And I TRUELY TRUELY WISH that we knew about him prior to booking our trip because he can do everything for you, not just photos. Turned out that he is the whole package, he is also a travel agent. If we would've used him as our travel agent and had our guest book thru him, our photos would have been included for FREE. But unfortunately it was to late to do that. Because James was so great, we decided to use him for our engagement photos which I have to say came out great, he even made me look good which is not an easy thing to do. I can't wait to see the photos he'll take at the wedding and how he'll make me look good again. This is basically how our planning has gone so far and I look forward to some feedback and tips as the forums on here have been helpful to us throught this planning process. Thank You Herman

Unlike traditional wedding celebrations, Indian Weddings often span over the course of three to four days focusing on different aspect of the wedding union with special cultural ceremonies and practices. One of those is the Mayian, which is the preparation ceremony the day before a Punjabi or Sikh wedding is held. According to Sakurako Yakushiji the COO and Master Florist & Decor Expert of LATIN ASIA -- a premiere wedding decor stylist team in the Cancun-Riviera Maya area -- Mayian is usually a night ceremony that involves many rituals among them chuni or choora ceremony, or Jaggo where matka or jaggo (metal bowls) are placed on ladies heads while they dance amongst the crowd. Sometimes the Mayian happens in combination with the Sangeet (music and performances night) and ladies Mendhi where henna is applied. Yakushiji and her LATIN ASIA team recently created a vibrantly hued Mayian Ceremony display at the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort and she explains some of the inspiration behind their creation. Question: What is the inspiration behind this particular design? This particular design we created was a combination of traditional elements presented differently. Why? Because we like to do things better every day! Matkas, choki tables, thalis with multicolor crystals, bajots and a stunning backdrop with Pakistani, Indian and Arabic lanterns all together with colorful solid fabrics and sarees on top with a raised platform dressed with golden sequin fabrics gives a stunning result and all your guests will rave from years to come! If this is the Mayian which is the prelude of the wedding, imagine what we can do for your wedding ceremony and gala reception. Question: What type of feel were you aiming for in this design? Maiyan is the door or prelude to the wedding day, so a backdrop to demark the ceremony enhances its importance and gives it a special touch. Regular backdrops are flat and boring, so we aimed to bring volume and movement. So we used a 3-panel backdrop with contrasting colors, dashes of gold and hanging lanterns to make this Maiyan unique. At LATIN ASIA, we do not do cookie cutter, we like to design from scratch and little details make a huge difference. Breaking the rules and standards of flat, or square we see endless options to create a fabulous shape, incredible color combinations and stunning textures with props. We do not forget even the floor as all Indian weddings must have a raised platform. We decided to pop it up with golden sequin covers to transform an empty space from bland to extraordinary. Question: What was the inspiration behind the color palette you chose? As Maiyan is a very meaningful event and it is the preparation ceremony, we tried to make it vibrant, festive and bright -- in other words colorful. Orange and bright pink are quite popular colors among these festivities. And golden touches is something all Indian weddings must have. As a wedding industry professional for over 10 years and having my wedding ceremony in Agra India, I know the good, the fabulous and of course the ugly around the hood when it comes to destination Indian weddings. HELLO! This is my first topic-but so far I LOVE this site! I am getting married in September in 2016 at the Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort. Overall, so far I will say that I have been frustrated that Angela is not responding to my email questions! However--a lot of you are saying it's because it's too far out and they will talk to me more 3 months before. That is HARD for a planner like me, but I'll be OK with it! One main QUESTION please! My Ceremony in on the BEACH at 6pm. This was suggested by my travel agent (with a 7pm cocktail hour on the BEACH to follow). I figured, the ceremony will be 30 minutes, photos for 30 minutes, and then at the cocktail hour we will do our first dances and the speeches. QUESTION: Will it be dark at 6pm? I don't want it to be dark for my ceremony! After the cocktail hour, my plan is to grab my guests and go to one of the restaurants for dinner. I know we won't be seated ALL together, but we can eat and chat there. I asked if we could make reservations for dinner and at first they said no. However, I now have 68 confirmed guests, so I hope they will let me make a reservation, other wise I'll have to send a Bridesmaid up to the restaurant around 7:45 and say "68 for dinner, please!" After dinner, I figured we would all go to the bar that is open until 2am and dance and drink, and people can leave whenever they want. One more QUESTION-- in September--will it be crazy crowded? Ladies, help!!! Any suggestions/reviews between these two vendors regarding air brush makeup? I'm looking for hair and make up with trial for bride and 8 bridesmaids hair and make up services. I dont want to use my resort's service for that since I've been reading a not-so-good review about it Thank you soooooo much!!! -
I got married at Xcaret a couple of weeks ago and want to give my highest recommendation for Jhankarlo Photography--he was so so amazing! Here's why: Let me begin by saying that my parents left me behind at the hotel and that had it not been for my two bridesmaids, I never would have made it to the church! My Mom had left the hotel to get her hair done outside the resort and had an emergency but didn't tell anyone. My dress, veil and shoes were in my parents' room, my bridesmaid's dress and daughter's dress were also in there. Mom was nowhere to be found, dad was still in his swimming suit 15 minutes before the bus to go to Xcaret was supposed to be in the lobby. I was locked out! After waiting outside that room for almost half an hour, with my hair and makeup all done--and starting to melt--dad shows up. I ran inside, grabbed dresses, kid and shoes. Flew to my room to give kid bath and get her dressed. Dad was supposed to get on bus to make sure he's be there on time. Mom was supposed to drive me to the church. And so I was left behind. So you can Imagine how I felt. An hour later, I get a message from planner telling me my parents were at the venue already. My bridesmaid managed to get keys to our rented red Jetta from my husband as he was on his way out! Phew! When I got to the bridal suite at the church I was a hot, and incredibly angry mess in gym shorts and flip flops, hauling my dress and veil. I met Jhankarlo when I was almost in tears, and he smiled and said, "Everything's going to be OK. This is your day and it will be beautiful." He and my planner made sure I got the space I needed to have my tequila shot, calm down, and get into my dress. He was extremely professional and respectful, and took a few photos while I finished getting ready. As he took them, he showed me a few shots from his camera and they were incredible. He is not a commercial wedding photographer--he loves manipulating light and movement. And since our wedding was at night, the pictures showed incredible color and details that you'd never see anywhere else. Jhankarlo is an artist and loves what he does. Jhankarlo covered our wedding and reception for 8 hours! For me, having him there made the night so much fun! The music and happiness from our guests also allowed him to feel relaxed and he even got on the dance floor and took amazing pictures of all of us having a great time! The next day, he came to pick us up to do the trash the dress shoot. We spent the first part of the session at Xcaret and then went to the cenote for the water shoot. Photographing under water is much harder than you'd expect, but we all laughed a lot and the pictures that we saw from the camera directly were unlike anything we' d ever seen before. Jhankarlo will climb, turn himself over and will do just about anything to get the perfect angle so the shot comes out beautifully. The value we received from the package we selected far exceded the price and our expectations. We also gained a friend. Thanks, Jhankarlo! We can't wait to see our photos!

This air-conditioned glass Catholic Chapel is set in a lovely space in Moon Palace's Nizuc section and is just footsteps away from the turquoise blue waters, giving you a beautiful ocean view from the chapel. Aside from the glass walls, this indoor gazebo is also surrounded by beautiful landscaping and a pond. And while the pews, which seat up to 80 people, cannot be removed from the gazebo, the Catholic symbols can be taken down should a couple want to hold a non-denominational ceremony at the chapel. Sunday mass is also regularly held at Capilla Catolica for resort guests who wish to attend. When I was planning my wedding about 8 years ago, I came across limited options for a Catholic wedding. While I wanted to have a Catholic ceremony, I was disappointed to find out that weddings at the time could only be held inside the church. I was after all, a bride who always dreamed of getting married on the beach or at least overlooking the beach. With Moon Palace's glass chapel, couples can still have that beautiful Catholic service with an exquisite ocean view. And no matter how warm a day it may be, the chapel is air-conditioned so you and your guests will certainly be comfortable. Moon Palace also has other air-conditioned glass gazebo options on the resort grounds where wedding ceremonies can be held. I chose my resort! It's the Platinum Yucatan Princess; the adults only resort beside the Grand Sunset/Riviera Princess resorts. I just thought I'd post since I didn't see many forums about this resort since it's fairly new. It's everything that I wanted in my checklist; a sky terrace , disco, close to Playa del Carmen. Just booked our ceremony to be on the terrace since I didn't want to have a beach ceremony. I'm at the beginning stages of planning so I'll probably post more once I know more about the details in the weddings that are conducted there.- 2 replies

Hey there! I really want to do a destination wedding but my folks are insisting that I should have a catholic wedding ceremony. Based on my research, I have found Gran Caribe Real as one of my options. I've looked into Xcaret weddings as well. I've contacted TAs already just waiting on their response. Anybody have any suggestions on other places that offer catholic ceremonies or have experienced weddings at GCR? Please let me know, a brief review of the resorts such as their food and services would be great! Thanks so much!
