Hello fellow brides/brides to be, I've been browsing through this site and have found it incredibly informative and useful. I would be extremely grateful if someone could shed some light on the questions/concerns I have. I am currently in the initial stages of organising my 2016 wedding in the Riviera Maya. I will be travelling all the way from Europe with my family (approx. 15 of us), some friends might join us but this is not a certainty as of yet. Initially I wanted to get married at the Grand Palladium, I love this resort. It was our first big holiday together as a couple and the resort itself is beautiful. I know my family would love it! Upon checking the difference wedding packages on offer by the Palladium and the Moon Palace I am noticing that the Palladium seems to be more expensive in terms of packages. The Moon Palace seems to offer more "free" stuff ie the Complimentary Package. Also, the dinner and the cocktail hour appears to be free; I would only need to pay for guests not travelling with the same Tour Operator as myself and for any extra hours. The music system is also a separate charge. I have been emailing back and forth and as most of you know whilst they are very helpful communication is delayed and at times not entirely clear. I was hoping someone could give me any advise or tips. Thank you. Jen

Our wedding is 3 weeks from today and I can't believe how fast it's sneaking up on us! From day one we were not planning on having video service at our wedding. It was even an included option in our wedding package but every video I watched I was left feeling "eh" and that we don't need video. I also kept thinking that we are going to have amazing photographs to swoon over. BUT THEN... I was introduced to a specific videographer's work and after viewing his work (@@KayRae <3 I have you to thank!), I felt so compelled to reach out him them directly- seriously, I cried when I watched his videos of strangers- crazy but made me want to have our wedding day captured on film so much more! Because we weren't planning on having this service, we have not budgeted for it and it's definitely a splurge. Planning a destination wedding has proven to cost more than we had anticipated and I made some great sacrifices with flowers and decor to keep our wedding budget in check and I keep telling myself that our day will be beautiful regardless. We have an amazing photography team coming with us from home and I know that they will do a magnificent job photographing our day and we will have those memories to look back on. I'm just not sure what to do and would appreciate thoughts and advice from other brides.

Hello all, My fiance and I are planning our destination wedding hopefully early next summer. We were looking into Jamaica and there are some really nice places. Currently, we looked into Round Hill and the Rockhouse. We plan on inviting around 90 people (big Italian family), but realistically think that only half will show. There maybe a child or two, but adult only venues are plausible. Also, we prefer almost anywhere in the Caribbean, Jamaica is not a make or break deal. Our budget is for around 20-25k. Roundhouse quoted us for 35k and we never got an accurate quote from Rockhouse. My question is can anyone provide a place where I can get the most out of our money? Your responses are greatly appreciated! Thank you!!! Mike

Hi Ladies! I believe DW doesn't need much decor, but still some details could be cute. I decided to do some DIY stuff and obviously went to Michaels. From your experience does Michels have good prices? Can you compare it to Dollar store or any other stores? What have you DIY? P.S. Since my main color most likely will be coral, I didn't see many things in that color (( Any advice? Thank you!

So I was rly upset about not being able to afford a wedding video bc I really wanted to capture all the sights/sounds of the whole week. Luckily my cousin used this cool video app at her wedding called weddingmix that lets you make a really fun wedding video out of all the memories with everyone at your wedding. I love the idea of seeing my wedding through the eyes of my family and friends throuout the whole 7 days were in Cali!! Are you guys using an video apps for your wedding ?

Part 1: Ways to Save When Planning Your Destination Wedding
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
Let's face it. Weddings are expensive! And when you factor in the costs of travel/lodging destination weddings can be REALLY expensive. But having been married for close to six years now after having an epic destination wedding in Akumal, Mexico, I can tell you that had I opted for a local wedding here in Southern California, the wedding bill probably would have been triple what was spent in Mexico. And I wouldn't have glorious beach photos to go with it All that said, here are a few ways you can cut down on the costs of planning a destination wedding. Use all or some of these ideas, but most of all, choose what works best for you. And if you have any other suggestions to give, please share them in the comments section!!! -- Consider Time of Year: If you aren't dead set on a particular wedding date, consider the fluctuating costs of airfare/lodging based on the time of year. With a little research, you'll soon find that picking the right time of year (the low travel season) can save you hundreds, if not thousands, on travel and accommodations. -- Research Resort/Wedding Deals: With destination weddings becoming more and more popular, resorts in popular areas are offering a lot more promotions and discounts/deals to draw in potential brides and grooms. Reach out to a travel agent and see if they have the scoop on any awesome travel promotions. The official travel agency for the BDW wedding forum, Wright Travel Agency, is constantly in the loop when it comes to incredible deals for destination wedding couples. And guess what, when you turn to their expertise and book your travel plans through Wright Travel, it doesn't cost you anything extra, but you will certainly rack up on the savings! (Click here for a list of travel promotions and deals posted in the BDW forum). -- Cut the DJ, Use an iPod: If having a great DJ isn't on your "Must Have" list, then think about using an iPod programmed with your favorite songs instead. Yes it will take some time to load up an awesome playlist and you'll need to confirm with your reception venue that they have the equipment to play your iPod, but if you're willing to do the work ahead of time, it can really cut back on the costs. Check back soon for the next installment of Ways to Save! - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. Part 2: Ways to Save When Planning Your Destination Wedding
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
When people ask me why I decided to get married in Akumal, all I have to do is show them a photo of the beach I got married on and that pretty much wraps up that conversation. One of the best things about having a destination wedding is being able to share your little slice of paradise with your guests. So when it comes to finding ways to save while you're planning your destination wedding, it can be summed up in three little words: KEEP IT SIMPLE. Yes, I'm talking to you extreme detail bride. You who wants to match your flower colors to the exact hue of your reception decor and centerpieces ... and shoes for that matter. (Full disclosure: I was that bride. Yep, me the extreme detail oriented bride ) All that said, here are a few ways you can cut down on the costs of planning a destination wedding. Use all or some of these ideas, but most of all, choose what works best for you. And if you have any other suggestions to give, please share them!!! -- Cut Back on Decor: I cannot emphasize enough the need to remember that your destination location is going to be epic. A sight worthy of traveling hundreds/thousands of miles for. A beautiful location worthy of a vacation, but so amazing it warrants being the place you say your I Dos. If you're getting married outdoors -- especially on the beach -- you don't need to deck out each corner with decor. Save those pennies by letting the scenery speak for itself. -- Keep Your Flowers Simple: This ties in with the tip above. Choose flowers that are local to the area so they are bountiful and easily accessible, helping to cut down on costs. You may also want to consider using artificial flowers for bouquets and boutonnieres that you can purchase at home and bring with you. Then, double purpose those bouquets by popping them into vases on your reception tables to serve as centerpieces. Flowers are beautiful ways to add color to your ceremony and reception, but you don't need much to impress. Remember, keep it simple! -- Serve a Simple Wedding Cake: If food is your thing, feed your guests well! But after serving them a delicious meal, think about keeping your Wedding Cake simple. Wedding cakes can be elaborate and fancy, but more details usually means a higher expense. If you want a beautiful cake for photos, consider a small decorated cake for you and your hubby to cut for photos. But then serve guests with a simply frosted cake without all the fancy details. Cake is delicious with or without the pretty decor -- trust me, I have the thighs to prove it Check back soon for the next installment of Ways to Save! - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. We just got engaged last week and have already decided we want to do a destination wedding! We're thinking Mexico because it's probably the most affordable for everyone coming. I'm just wondering what the average price is for a wedding in Mexico. And does anyone have any suggestions for great resorts with more affordable wedding packages? Any advice helps here as we're just starting to look. Thanks!

Hi all!! I'm new here and am needing all the help and advice I can get. I feel like this was supposed to be easier than a traditional wedding but now I'm not so sure. When we decided to go ahead and plan a beach wedding I had all these fabulous ideas and because of costs I feel like everything I wanted isn't going to be possible. I understand compromise but yeesh I feel every detail I'm having to compromise on My dream wedding is on a picturesque beach just before sundown, a lovely spa like resort, with lush grounds and gardens with a fun staff and atmosphere. We are traveling with all ages so a family friendly resort is a must. My daughters love swimming in the ocean so a nice calm beach is a MUST as they prefer that over a pool and so do I. The resorts I've fallen in love with are way above our price limit, we want guests to come hahaha. If anyone reading this can guide me in any way I'd really appreciate it as I'm more confused now than ever

Hi everyone. I'm new here and am in need of your wisdom! We're expecting 60+ guests at our wedding and are looking at Cancun/Mayan Riviera. We're on a super tight budget since we'll be paying for my fiances parents to attend plus 1 flight from south america. Can anyone recommend a resort for a larger group that has fewer extra costs? Most of the resorts I've looked at charge for guests above 20 ppl which is fine, but we're looking for a resort with a lower fee pp or an inclusive semi-private reception for a large group. We can't afford to pay $50-85 pp plus open bar, tables, chairs, decor etc. Please let me know if you've encountered any resorts that might work for our tight budget! Many thanks! Jessica

Hello Past and Present Brides! I am currently in the early stages of planning a destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas for 2016. The wedding size will range from 40-60 guests. I am feeling slightly overwhelmed with the process and have decided to look into wedding planners. I never thought I would be the type of person to need a wedding planner since I am typically well organized and like planning events however; working full time and trying to set key milestones is becoming a challenge. Brides that used or are using a wedding planner: What are you thoughts on benefits vs. costs? Are you getting what you expected? What is the typically cost and payment structure for a wedding planner? How did you decide on who to work with? Are they getting you better prices on wedding costs? Brides that have decided against it: What are your thoughts on benefits vs. costs? Are you wishing you had one during particular parts in the planning? If so, what? Have you had any instances in negotiating where you think a wedding planner could have gotten you better deals or vendors? I am interested in hearing from everyone especially Cabo brides! Cheers!

Please Help... When me and my fiance decided to go along with a destination wedding I did not think it would become as difficult as it has been. First off our travel agent has been amazing. She got us an amazing price quote from Sunwing. She has been there to answer all my questions really quickly and is super knowledable. Once we got the details all finalized with her and the resort (RIU Palace Cabo) I made up our Save The Dates. I used a really cool website called paperlesspost.com. Its an amazing website where you can email an rsvp card to everyone who has email. I thought these were a great alternative to typical mail outs just because we only had a certain amount of time for people to guarauntee there spots. These were a quick way to get out all the info to people. I also worked my butt off on our wedding website with alot of help from my MOH. We were worried about sending out the Save The Date because it was really close to Christmas so we decided to wait till Dec 30 to send them out. The response was not at all as pleasant as I had anticipated. The only people booked are our moms and grammas. My questions for all your wonderful ladies is at what point do I send out a reminder email? I was thinking a month before just to give a pleasant reminder to pay the deposit. Our price with the travel agent will remain the same up until the wedding. However, unless people pay a deposit by Feb 28, 2015 they will not be guaraunteed a spot. They will then have to hope that there is still room at the resort and on the plane. This worries me like crazy. I also need to have to my numbers by Nov 2015 so that I know our budget. We are paying person and I dont really know how to explain that to people who want to wait last minute. HELP!!!!!!!

Ladies! I absolutely LOVE my wedding gown. It is all lace (I have yet to see any other gown with anything close to it), and is mermaid style. When I ordered it, I was between two sizes...so I went with the bigger size just to eliminate the stress of "what if it doesn't fit?!" Well, I've been shopping around for alteration quotes... my goodness! $500+! Am I just being cheap? That seems like a lot to me! But, I suppose it's because it is a very intricate lace...? Has anyone else ran in to this kind of expense with their gown?

The saying goes, "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue." But what if that something borrowed was actually your wedding dress? The renting of high-end designer gowns is a growing trend and for some brides, it's the opportunity to wear a wedding dress they otherwise could not afford. Houston-based boutique Get the Gown was recently featured on their local news station as a business that offers gown rentals. And these aren't just any ol' gowns, the shop carries dresses from high-end designers such as Oscar De La Renta, Vera Wang, and Monique Lhullier. So dresses that would normally costs someone a pretty penny -- we're talking $4,000 to $13,000 to buy -- could be yours to wear for a rental fee of $800 to $1600 a week. For brides who want to rent but don't have a local storefront to turn to, Rent the Runway, is an online retailer that offers the same type of service at a fraction of the costs. The website even features a section dedicated to brides and bridesmaids with a variety of dress styles and accessories. And if that's not enough, you can also get $25 off your first rental. Rent or buy, the most important thing is that you feel good, confident and beautiful on your Wedding Day. And it's great to know that even if you've always dreamed of wearing a designer gown, but don't quite have a designer gown budget -- you now have options. So tell me, do you think the renting of a gown is practical? Or is it still to high of a price to pay for something you can only keep for a limited amount of time? Would you be open to renting your wedding gown?

Hi all! Hopefully this isn't a repeat post, when I searched they were all old posts, but there's a Vistaprint Groupon happening right now! Options $24.99 for $50 worth of custom invitations and announcements $49.99 for $100 worth of custom invitations and announcements $99.99 for $200 worth of custom invitations and announcem https://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-vistaprint-invitations-announcements I bought mine and am probably going to buy a template from Etsy and print them through Vistaprint since I find there invitation services a little confusing (It's hard to find the entire suite).

Need Advice on how to salvage our Destination Wedding booked at the Now Larimar and Secrets RB May 6, 2015 We are having some serious issues with our current Travel Agent who has us booked through Transat Holidays. In April of this year we contacted a TA to help us find our perfect Destination for a wedding in April or May. We asked for a group rate with a budget between $1500 - $1800 max, to the DR or Jamaica, and hopefully with a Karisma or AM Resort. We had just come from a 2 week vacation at the Generations Maya Riviera and absolutely loved the concept, however our number one priority, was an amazing beach to have a romantic wedding. We had been told the AM Resorts are equally as incredible, so we requested rates from both brands. Our TA responded by telling us there was nothing left to Dominican Republic and Jamaica would put us well over $2500. She did provide rates to the Hard Rock Cancun and it was her strong opinion that the rate at HRH Cancun was an unbelievable deal for the infamous Hard Rock Hotel. Her enthusiasm regarding the incentives was none other than highly recommending what an amazing deal it is. Additionally, she advised this deal would not be available for very long, nothing else will match it, flights accommodating a group will book up quickly leaving nothing to choose from, and the earlier we book, the better the rates. The $1800 credit per guest, the credit for 1 person’s trip for every 10 rooms booked (to a max of 3), and the wedding packages supported the added value and we reluctantly accepted the rate of $2200. We secured the booking with a deposit and began planning. We had 66 guests book and give a $150 deposit while some also upgraded air and room. Our guests agreed to terms of final payment in February 2015. We also had 6 people (2 groomsmen) find a package online to the HRH Cancun for the same dates at a lower rate, flying from their hometown, not a gateway, and our TA insisted she could not offer that rate. L My fiancé and I went for a site visit to the Hard Rock Cancun in September and knew immediately it was not where we wanted to have our wedding. While it is not a venue for us, it definitely caters to a certain market wanting more of a party and public atmosphere, and with less than 30 guests. Our vision was a private romantic beach wedding ceremony with a reception and dance outdoors, while our guests also getting a relaxing resort vacation. Sadly, this was not the case as a 10pm curfew on anything outdoors (beach, terrace, or rooftop) meant we would need to move indoors to a banquet room, and the property is more of a hotel than a resort. The costs to set up 2 locations to have a wedding past 10 pm did not fit in our budget. There were several other reasons why we were not 100% sold on the HRH Cancun for a wedding or for our guests, however I must add that the WC Glendi and hotel staff were amazing. The service is top notch! The $1800 credit is an enticing incentive; however it wasn’t of great value to us once we were not happy with the hotel. I love the Hard Rock brand and my stays at Hard Rock Panama and Hard Rock Las Vegas were amazing, but as a “play hard” vacation, not my wedding. So now onto our real issue…. While at a Wedding Trade Show in Edmonton, I ran into a few brides who informed me they are going to a Karisma or an AM Resort in April/May 2015 for rates well within our initial budget! I was very upset and knew I needed to react by doing my own due diligence. I contacted a TA that was referred to me by a trusted friend, as he specializes in Destination Weddings. His knowledge and service far exceeded my expectations while also answering my prayers that it was, and still is, possible to have our special day in the DR at the Now Larimar/Secrets RB at a reasonable rate. He also indicated that the rate at the Now Larimar should be lower than the Hard Rock Cancun and our booking of 30+rooms would be of value and embraced by the AM Resorts brand. We contacted our current agent to request a transfer of venues and to get rates for the Now Larimar in May 2015. We also asked if our guest’s deposits could be transferred. Transat agreed to transfer the deposits to the Now Larimar/Secrets RB and Hard Rock Hotel Cancun accepted a cancellation. To add to our frustration we then received rates that were not in our budget, yet again, and higher than the HRH Cancun. We received rates for Land only and Air/Land package from Calgary and Edmonton. In order for our guests to have a lower price than the HRH Cancun, they are limited to the entry level Deluxe room, but only if paid by December 22, 2014. This is 3 months earlier than our previous booking terms to Cancun and has caused grief with some of our guests. We also have had a few of our guests tell us it is better for them to book online with another airline as it is at least $500 cheaper. Sadly we may be losing guests if we are not able to secure a rate that is in line with our budget and competitive. We have asked for our TA to release the file; however she is not willing to do so without us forfeiting all the guests’ deposits totaling $9600 stating that Transat will not transfer the deposits from one agent to another, and declaring deadlines imposed by Transat to make decisions within 48 hours. We spoke with Transat and another TA who confirm that the deposits definitely can be transferred but need the consent of the booking agent. We also have been informed that in many cases Transat will refund deposits 6-7 months out from booking, if the TA provides valid reasons why, and Transat has no reason to impose unrealistic deadlines threatening to lose deposit money other than at final payment dates = typically 90 days from booking. I am having so much difficulty absorbing and processing exactly why our TA is not working with us to ensure we have our wedding and with 66+ guests? I am heartbroken, stressed, and yes angry now. I do not feel that a rate of $2452.25 per adult and $1726.25 for children aged 2, 6, & 8 in the entry level room for 1 week in May and in the Dominican is even close to our budget? Am I crazy? I ask very kindly for anyone booked at the Now Larimar for a group or wedding in April or May 2015 please personally message me to confirm they are also paying this rate. I am doing my absolute best to keep my fiancé from losing it any more than he already is, although I have agreed to his decision to seek further advise form our lawyer should we lose any deposit money or the file not be released. My nerves are shot as my relationship with the TA went from extremely positive, ecstatic, and appreciative to confused, frustrated, and disappointed. Not exactly how I expected this exciting time to turn out. Desperately seeking advice….

So I decided that I need somewhere to rant and rave about the wedding and planning process. To give you a little background: I met Peter when I was 17 and he was 18 and kind of dating my friend (you know the teenage, odd kiss in the nightclub, maybe a text during the week, nothing serious kind.) My first impressions of him were 'he is tall' swiftly followed by 'I'm away to the bar' The fact that I can remember this meeting is amazing in itself- I have an awful memory and never remember anything, especially if I was drinking! We're from a rural area in Ireland which is served by around three nightclubs, all terrible, but with a clear strata of 'awful', 'bad' and 'sure where else would you go?' Of course we were going to run into each other again and again. A few months later we saw each other in the awful club and he picked me up and swung me around. I realised that I kind of fancied him. A few months and a lot of flirting later we kissed for the first time, but the first of many times. Around two years later (during which we often bumped into each other and, if we weren't with other people, had the odd snog) he found out I was single again and started chatting to me on IM. I arranged to meet him and another guy when I was out for Halloween. I bumped into him first, walked him to the door of the pub when he was going to meet his friends... and ended up going with him. A month later we had to have the relationship talk as Christmas was coming and we needed to know whether or not to buy presents! And that's how we became a couple. Two years later, I had graduated and was working in a blah job and he needed to move to England for his degree. It seemed obvious that I would be going with him and I did. A year later, after taking me round town and getting my hair and nails done, he knelt down in a mucky park and proposed. And that's how we became our own little family and got engaged. Four years later, finally graduated and working in a real job Peter suggested that we should go on a real holiday, our first proper, beach, relax and indulge holiday. Yes, I am all for that. Then a couple days later he suggests that maybe we get married when we are over there. Just the two of us. No family, no drama, no huge expense, no unrealistic expectations. Yes, I say. And as the week draws on I'm insisting on it. And that's how we decided to run off to Mexico and get wed.

My finance and I are hoping to have our wedding at Hard Rock Cancun in November 2015. Just as we were about to finalize the details we were told some information that concerned us and we are coming to this forum to ask for help. The agent we are working with has informed us there are no standard rooms available for us for one of the dates we choose in November and for a later November date there are 18 standard rooms available. 1. Is there truly a limit to the number of standard rooms available to us? 2. If we book 75 room nights, based on a double occupancy, are the unlimited daily 3 hours events unlimited for more than 32 guests? 3. If we choose the complimentary wedding package and have more than 32 guests attending do we pay a price per head? We appreciate the help!

What is the average cost of a wedding photographer + video in Mexico? I found one I love (Sarani Photography) but more than I budgeted for....$5700 for 6 hrs, high resolution digital pics on cd with rights, mini video, + long video. What should I do...got with the pricey photographer, who I absolutely love OR go with the resort photographer (Ocean Photo Studio) which is about 1/2 the cost?
