  1. I am not getting married until 2015 however we want to have our reception on the sky deck? Has anyone done this? How is the weather up there? Is it hot? Does food fly away? Help!

Hi! The Sky Deck is where I'm hoping to have our reception as well, but it may not be big enough for our group. I heard it can get sort of windy up there, but I think that'd be nice, especially if it's hot outside. There is a $15 surcharge per person to have the reception up there if they're eating dinner. If it's just a cocktail party, it's a $8 fee per person.

As for the room blocks, the first rates we got we're about $160/person for the basic deluxe room, all inclusive. That included transfer and that was only for 40 rooms. We need 65 so they're redoing our rates and I don't want the transfers included. My travel agent can negotiate the transfer rates b/c she does so many weddings there, and apparently the transfers in the rates are higher than they typically are. I'll let you know our updated rates when I get them. :)

Hi! My wedding is going to be pretty large too, so I am definitely going to bring down some of my decorations. I have a travel agent who is also my wedding coordinator and she is taking my welcome bag stuff down with her. I have my maid of honor bringing some of my decorations because she gets two bags since she's a United Card holder. My fiance gets two bags so he's taking some and I am taking some in my second bag as well. So basically, I'm having everyone I know who gets 2 bags use their second bag for my decorations. :)

I'm still trying to determine the size of the sheers I need to get for the gazebo, but hopefully I'll figure that out soon. Good luck!

Yeah, our wedding is going to be a lot of people, but it should be really fun. I'm just worried because I don't know what areas can accommodate that many people. Our wedding coordinator is Andrea. She's been okay, but not great. I'm still waiting to hear from her about how many people can fit in the various spaces. I'm totally lost with the process. They really aren't that helpful and every time I ask her a question about something, she has to go find the answer or ask someone else. I would assume you sort of know everything, but whatever.

It sounds like your rates are the same as mine. I'm a little disappointed because I figured since we're having such a large group, we'd get a better discount, or at least an upgrade for our room, or even a free private party. But nope. Nothing. We're paying for the welcome cocktail party, the rehearsal dinner, the post-ceremony cocktail party and the reception. So basically we're making the resort a crap ton of money because we're paying for everyone's meals! So they're really not even using the all inclusive.

We're not using the memorable moments package because it was pretty expensive, and because I don't need covers on my chairs. I'm going to buy the sheers myself, but I don't know what size to get. Then I'm going to rent the chandelier and get the florals for the gazebo. The large florals for the gazebo (roses) were $650 a piece!!!!! I needed 2 so my wedding coordinator is seeing how much the smaller florals would be for it. I really want roses because my wedding colors are light pink and mint.

I'm very jealous of your sky suite..

Are you doing a package? Or are you bringing your own decorations?

  3. @@JMK923 your pictures are great! So pretty. I have a few questions bc your ceremony set up is very similar to what I would like. How much were your flowers on the gazebo? You may have done a package, so this may be a stupid question. Did you bring the sashes or sheers or anything like that yourself? What about your mr and mrs sign? Did you bring those? Thanks so much! Congrats on your marriage!

hi Lindsay! Congrats on your upcoming wedding!! I am sort of sad about the donkey too. :( where is your ceremony at the hotel? What about your reception? We are having a really big group of about 150 so we are having a hard time figuring some stuff out. My wedding coordinator hasn't been very helpful so I've requested another. We will see what happens. What kind of rates did y'all get with the hotel? We are still waiting to hear from them about our rates and I've been waiting for almost 2 weeks which is sort of annoying. Oh well. I'm still super excited about getting married there. I think it looks awesome. I'd like to see more reviews as well, but haven't seen many. The wedding coordinator at the actual hotel sent me some new, updated pics of the beach and the new dock. It looks so pretty! Not as rocky as before. If you want me to email them to you, I'd be happy to. Also, if you want to email me about anything, you're always welcome to. My email is khmciver@@gmail.com. Good luck with your wedding! And congrats again!!

Hi ladies! Hope your wedding planning is going well! I have a few questions for y'all...

    1) About how many are you all expecting at your wedding?

    2) Are you having a rehearsal dinner and if so, is it private, where is it and how much are they charging you?

    3) Are they charging you all $15/chairs after they include the 24 chairs in the packages?

    Thanks ladies!!

  6. Hi! I was looking to get married on November 8, but had a really hard time finding a hotel/resort with availability for a wedding that date, so I moved my date to November 1. I really suggest either looking at November 1 or November 15. We're getting married at the Azul Fives hotel and they seem to be pretty reasonable for rates and food. I'm not sure how many people you're planning on having, but the price definitely increases by quite a bit with more people. There are a ton of hotels in the Playa/Riviera Maya area. If you're not having any children, then you'll have a lot of options. I'd suggest the Excellence Riviera Maya. My friend got married there last summer and the rates were really good. Good luck!!

  7. Hi everyone! I'm Kelly and I'm still deciding on my location for the wedding, but Azul Fives is the top contender. We're getting married November 1, 2014. This forum is so helpful! I was going to hire a photographer to bring from Houston because he would shoot Thursday night, Friday day, Friday night, Saturday day and Saturday night for $3100 and then we just have to pay his hotel and flight. Luckily, we don't have to pay for his second shooter. He's included. But an $800 vendor fee? We're trying to keep this wedding nice on a small budget and $800 is a lot!! How many guests are you all expecting? What menus are you doing? Any info would be really helpful. Thanks!! And congratulations to all of you on your upcoming wedding!!

  8. Hello! I recently got engaged and I am looking at having our wedding in Cozumel or Playa del Carmen. I've been looking at venues and there are so many that's it really overwhelming. I found a travel agent who will help me narrow it down, work with the hotel regarding the room block, contracts, negotiations, etc. Then she even creates a website for us with the information about the wedding and hotel and then she takes care of booking all our guests rooms and travel. I personally think this sounds fantastic, especially because we are inviting about 250 people. We're guessing about 125 will come. Anyway, have any of you used a travel agent and is it worth it? Thanks so much!!
