  1. My bad I read the title too quick this morning and thought this was the RM and Mexico riu thread! Sorry:)
  2. Fantastic! I came across this same stuff in my attachments from them a while back but emailed to confirm that these apply to ALL resorts. The attachment says "palace Bavaro" which makes me wonder if that means they also have these 2 restaurants at the MEXICO and RM locations. Make sense?
  3. Hey all! So we are doing some major price breakdowns of several resorts now, getting closer (somewhat) to making the big decision sometime this summer Holly has been a huge help, thx again girl! I was wondering if anyone has any pics/opinions about where the semi-private dinner can be held. We are thinking of doing the poolside party AFTER dinner, but I wanted to know what other brides have seen in terms of the restaurants that can hold 50 people or so for the dinner. Any help would be much appreciated! And Tlseege, thanks for your lovely review from your wedding a few yrs back! I didn't get to see your pics but would love to see them if you wanted to PM with me? This resort is definitely looking very cost effective - and deviouslindsay, I wondered the same thing about free packages, but after doing some major cost breakdowns, BPC remains to be very cost effective especially with a large party!
  4. Love the LAKERS! Lol I told my FI we could do purple and yellow If he wanted lol!! Purple is already in the wedding with the BM dresses, and I am currently looking for a lakers cake topper! Etsy is amazing for that stuff and the lakers garters!!!! Love the ideas guys
  5. Hey AD2012! I sure am in Edmonton, and good call about Simon and J Crew. I've written down le chateau etc as well. We haven't dared to step into Holt but several brides have now talked about Holt in some form or another so we may check it out! Thanks again!!!!
  6. pardon the girlie scream but EEK! Love this!! And our colors and peacock related; purple and turqquoise - how wonderful would this be! Love this idea. We need to check out Le Chateau, thank you!
  7. Hahah no worries I just wanted to make sure that Robynn saw you were asking her questions We expect similar group sizes then! It's nice to hear from other bride to bes who have larger sizes (of course things change as the actual RSVPs come in, but we imagine at least 45!) because the larger size party can create some interesting "challenges" lol. International buffet, where would this be? Are you planning for La Fondue, like Robynn did? When I contacted the resort about the size of our group and the dinner (which is includd in the packages), she indicated that the regular restaurants can't accomodate groups larger than 40.
  8. exactly! Ok so RM is the riviera maya one, but its' the mexio which was renovated! Sorry I confused you lol!!!! Congrats! And yay, you have so much time!!! We are getting quotes between jan - april 2014; our TA won't book anything for us until mid-end of summer because she knows she will be able to get wicked rates if we just wait lol! Riu mexico/RM and grand sunset princess are top choices for us at this point!! When did you get engaged!!? Is Riu RM/mexico one of ur hopeful places?
  9. Thank u so much! I posted this on another thread and luckily had a few responses there too! We did check Zara and they have such a skinny pant revolution going on lol! My fiancé is black, and I think the light colored suit would be wonderful on him. Plus he loves the heat lol so he was the one who wanted a full suit! Ill definitely let u all know how we make out :)
  10. riviera maya I believe (??)(which yes, I think is the one that was just renovated??) - I love the purple decor lol!!!! It's my fav color so I am super biased just because of that lol.
  11. I think you quoted my post Ashley? We are looking for April potentially too at GSP!!!!! Robynn answered a bunch of my questions in here, it was much appreciated How many people are you expecting Ashley?
  12. lgerry, u look lovely in your dress. I think #2s would go great and you can likely wear em' again right!
  13. I also meant to ask you how you organized your dance reception - did you do your "grand entrance" here, with the first dance, etc? Then speeches? We discussed how we would potnetially set this up since we have a separate place for a dinner (i.e. we can't do speeches at the dinner location, as per resort's feedback)>
  14. Robynn you rock, thx so much for this additional info. I believe the more expensive dancefloor was something like 1600, but I am planning on bargaining with resorts regardless of the quotes they give over email lol! So with the 1500 for the reception, was this cost at a PER PERSON Rate? Or did they just say "50 people, 3hrs of service, 1500". So glad the MC and DJ worked out, and 650 is not too bad for a DJ. Yay for discos and wedding pump! Eeek so excited :) Thanks again Robynn! I am sure I'll hit ya up again for q's later
  15. Robynnnnn!!!!! How lovely to hear all about your big day, it makes me cry lol! So happy for you, and thanks for the awesome details you included in your post. It was a relief to hear from someone who has had a recent wedding at GP and had around 50 people (this is similar to our expected size). I have been concerned about the cost of the chill out lounge, because as you mentioned 100 bucks per person (i.e. $5000 for 50 PEOPLE!!) is not within our realm of possibility. I was wondering if you could offer your answers/thoughts on the following: 1. How much did you pay for the dancefloor? I was quoted a very high price, and some other ladies here mentioned that this price seemed much higher than a few months ago even. 2. How much was the 3 hr reception? I've seen some women quote 2 hrs for 25 bucks per person, but in order to fit in speeches and dancing I would hope for 3 hrs, like you did. 3. What was cost of DJ - this was the resort DDJ you picked? - DId he take care of setting up speeches etc? How did you organize the dance party so you could have speeches? 4. what did you think of the resort as a place to party after the reception? Your feedback would be invaluable Robynn, thanks in advance if you have time!! Katie
  16. Yes for sure, and I hadn't thought of this restaurant idea before now - it's just been a bunch of random ideas floating around in my head! I understand that perspective no doubt, and doubt that my fiance would want people to have to pay for dinner as well. If we had a backyard where we could host one that would be idea, but we are in a condo downtown; I imagine we will do apps only (like I mentioned before), but even music, rent space, etc may add up. Anyways, I know we just need to talk about it and see how we can work something out. I appreciate having this dialogue with other brides/brides to be!
  17. Elissae, you looked so happy and the dress was gorgeous on you!!!!
  18. I definitely agree with you guys. And I don't think its helpful to take on a possible burden of making sure "everyone is happy"...I'm already prioritizing guests so much in our attempts to plan everything. I think I will talk to my beau tonight about this to get the possibility out there. Have any of you heard of a restaurant "AHR"? Ie where you have people join you for dinner, but not fork out the $$ for all the food, etc.? It would be an opportunity to spend time with people who couldn't come, without paying tons of extra $$....
  19. Thank you all so much for these ideas. I've copied all the store ideas etc into our "grooms attire" doc on dropbox lol! (This is how we communicate all ideas since fiance is in Fort Mac lol). @Dina - it's funny you mentioned the aspect of the suit costing more than our dresses! My dress was 379 (plus my sis paid for it which was amazing) and I laughed as we went through the stores and saw how much he could end up paying - I joked that if his whole attire cost more than my dress I would rub it in his face forever lol!!!
  20. Ah don't you love people with their opinions? LOL we have been fortunate, we haven't had that yet, and I am thankful for this. I have a feeling we could keep the AHR to a minimum likely, under 30 people. Do you only invite people who couldn't come to the wedding and those who weren't invited but you would love to share this with? I'm actually not clear on how AHR "usually" work. If we have a relatively small #, maybe we'll just do a dinner somewhere and I'll show up in my wedding dress lol!
  21. agreed! I just find it silly to be spending more money after the wedding too. If we could just rent a "hall" and get food brought in for cheap, that would be idea. We will not be doing a full dinner I know that much! For the amt of people that will likely come, no way haha! Just apps.
  22. We've had a small convo about it a while back but have no clue lol....We don't even have an idea for honeymooning yet lol!
