  1. Gotcha! They are definitely somewhat costly and I didn't think about the packing...do you know if they come flattened and fairly easy to pack? Right now we don't have a TON of people confirmed. I think it could be much smaller than we originally thought. There are even a few people that said they were going a while back and are now hinting or saying they might not come anymore!
  2. Oh GREAT!!! This is so awesome! Any reason in particular you aren't doing them anymore?
  3. Lizzie has still not answered that one. She asked me for pictures of them, and I sent her pics plus a website so she could learn more about them. But still no answer!
  4. Well, thats the tough part! So basically in the eyes of the Catholic church when you get married in a Catholic ceremony/church you are married no matter WHERE it happened (under the Canon Law I believe). The legal part you do wherever you live. I don't know the process in Canada, but here we just go to the courthouse for the legal part! You might actually have to bring your paperwork of your legal marriage with you to Mexico for your ceremony....at least we do! Check out these websites: http://www.idotaketwo.com/marriage-convalidation.html http://www.a-to-z-of-manners-and-etiquette.com/catholic-wedding.html They might be able to tell you a little more. I hope this helps!
  5. I hope I was helpful in some way! Looking at those slide shows really helped me to pick a venue, and also get an idea of what I wanted to have at our wedding (ceremony, reception location, decos...etc). And even looking at all the slide shows of weddings at resorts we weren't going to be at gave me some great ideas I wanted to incorporate! You can find all those slide shows on the Del Sol Wiki if you need some inspiration! We are getting married on Valentines Day 2012! We actually will be getting married at Moon Palace because they have some great booking perks that would really help us in the end, but it was a hard choice! Gran Caribe was the first place I really wanted when we first started looking. In the end MP ended up a little more affordable for us. I would suggest maybe talking to a TA. They are really helpful with setting things up for your guests. That was one thing I did not want to have to deal with! They usually can get your guests (and sometimes yourself) discounts! Just look for Wright Travel Agency on here, and they should be able to help you out. I did that, and they referred me to Teresa at Vacations4Less since she has worked with many MP brides. Good Luck! If there is anything else I can help with, let me know!
  6. Welcome! I know how overwhelming the beginning stages of planning a DW can be. I was in the exact same boat. BUT not to worry...once you get those BIG decisions made you will feel LOADS better! The hard part is figuring out where to start, and it sounds like you are already there! Go through the Del Sol Wiki, and just look at all the wedding slide shows. That really helped me get ideas and focus on the things I REALLY wanted to do/have for our wedding. They are also just amazing to look at and helped get me more excited and less stressed about it all! I made Message in a Bottle STDs to get everyone excited to go! We sent out our STDs about a year in advance. I wanted to give everyone plenty of time to plan and save. I know my Dad for instance gets a calender at the beginning of the year and has to put any of his vacations down for the entire year! I don't know how many people are coming yet, but it will likely be less than half of all the people we invited. But I'm OK with that! I want to keep it smaller anyway...one reason we chose a DW. You can go through your resort for a room block, but I'm not sure they give you discounts/specials because of it. We are using a TA and she was able to get us a discount for everyone that books through her. Its not a HUGE discount, but it certainly helps! I think all- inclusive is the way to go! The initial shock of nightly rates were hard to swallow, but after you break it down, you realize how much you get for that price! Good luck!
  7. Welcome and Congrats! I've heard a lot of good things about Dreams! I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. However I heard that Tulum is one of the most beautiful areas. Del Sol has shot A LOT of weddings, and have some amazing slide shows of weddings at Dreams Resorts: May + Yili - Wedding at Dreams Cancun - Photos by Vincent Shellane + Rowell - Wedding at Dreams Cancun - Photos by Sol Tamargo Sherry + Bo - Wedding at Dreams Cancun - Photos by Vincent Trish + Matt - Wedding at Dreams Cancun - Photos by Vincent You can find a bunch more on their Wiki if you want to look at more weddings and resorts too! I got so many ideas of things I wanted to incorporate into our wedding looking through all of these. Good Luck!
  8. Congrats! Ha Ha! I always wonder if those commercials are real! It sounds like you guys are very much in love!! What an amazing engagement! I love the picture. La Luna is such an AWESOME choice! With the way you are starting off with a beautiful resort and amazing photographers, I know your wedding will be stunning!! You will get so many ideas from this site and a lot of help from all the wonderful ladies on here. Happy planning!
  9. Congrats CindyG! I know what you mean about the hassle! We are doing a Catholic ceremony, and it is SO MUCH work! I almost wish we had just done the civil, but I know how important it is to my mom. We are going to have Del Sol shoot our wedding, and they have a ton of slide shows here on BDW. Here are a couple slide shows of weddings they have done. One is Catholic the other is not. Either way you can see what the resort looks like and get some good ideas for your wedding/reception! Danie + Nicolas Giselle + Joesph Good luck and happy planning!!
  10. Congrats Lilian! What a great choice! We looked at the Gran Caribe because we also are doing a Catholic ceremony! I REALLY loved the look of the chapel. Our AMAZING photographer has done a couple weddings there. Check out these slide shows: Danie + Nicolas (Catholic ceremony) Giselle + Joesph Hopefully this helps! I always like looking at these for ideas and inspiration for our own wedding. Happy planning!
  11. Hey there! Welcome! Great job! I actually plan on starting up another round sometime in the next couple weeks! I will be right there with you! I understand how hard it is. I think the first couple of days are the most difficult. If you are hungry, try tweaking the dosage. I don't know exactly what method you are using, but all the forums/threads I have read all tend to say that. It seems like usually you should try and lower it a little. I hear ya! Not only do I not want to be a "fat" bride, I don't want to be a "fat" beach bride! Not only do I have to look good in my dress, I have to look good in a swim suit! AYE! So much pressure! Good luck!
  12. Are any of you ladies doing Wish Lanterns?? I really hope to do them, but MP has not told me (and Lizzie apparently doesn't know the answer) if they will allow it! I REALLY hope so!
  13. Hey Ladies! We just booked our flights and had to figure this out too. This is what it says on our Wedding Contract: "Bride and Groom must arrive in Cancun at least three (3) working days (Monday –Saturday) prior to the wedding ceremony to meet with the wedding coordinator and submit all documents. Bride & Groom must be at the resort by check-in time (3:00 PM) or earlier in order to consider day of arrival." I hope that helps! Check your contracts too! It might say something different after all since MP can't ever be consistent!!!
  14. It took a lot of teeth-pulling (and still not everything was answered satisfactorily), but this is my email and what I recently got back from Lizzie: Hola Lizzie! Thank you for the attachments, however not many of my questions were answered! I understand that we do not get an on-site coordinator assigned until 90 days before. However, I have talked with many other Moon Palace brides who have gotten married there earlier this year and even brides-to-be that are even further out from their date than I am, and many of them have been able to reserve their locations and have their specific questions answered by someone (whether it is their on-site coordinator or not). Some future brides that are farther out from their day than I am have said that they have been told their preferred locations are not available for their day! That being said, I would like to at least have either Tucan Terrace or Venado Terrace put on hold for our private reception location. The other event locations are not as important and can wait. We have available Tucan Terrace, I already put it on hold however we do not guarantee location until 90 day before the wedding. Like I stated in my previous email to Janina, the 90 day mark happens to land right in the middle of the holiday season which is not only a busy time in itself, but also a very busy time for me at work. There are also things I would like to order and get done in advance to make sure I can get them on time and not have to worry about shipping around the holidays. I know you must appreciate being organized and prepared as you are in the wedding industry! If you could please answer my questions below, or forward them to someone who can I would very much appreciate it. I will highlight the more pressing questions that I need answered more immediately. Thank you so much for your time and effort. I really appreciate your help in alleviating some of my stress! Kelly Parker Immaculate Conception Package * We are in the final stages of our Pre-Cana and are getting ready to submit our paperwork to our diocese. Is there anything you need from us? at the meeting time on the onside wedding cordinator please bring all the documents ok * Because the Catholic ceremony is not legal in Mexico and we must do the legal part in our hometown, can we do it after we get back home if we chose instead of before we leave? If you mean legal in church yes it is, that´s why we are request all documents I meant legal in the United States. * Will you be sending us information of what we need to choose for our ceremony (readings, songs...etc)? Please find enclosed the planner of the wedding ceremony. ok thank you * We would like to do the Lasso ceremony during the mass. Is that that included? * Will we need to provide our own Lasso? Yes. Ok * What is included in your standard decor for the Chapel (as well as aisle bases)? Please find enclosed some pictures. * Since we have paid for the flowers used for the aisle bases (and since they will not be used again and likely to be thrown out), why can't they be moved to decorate the reception location? There are included ( like the pictures) however there are inlcuded just for the ceremony. If you want buy other ones it is possible moved to the reception location. Will there be alter flowers we can have moved to the reception? I will attach a picture from a Moon Palace bride who used her ceremony flowers for her cake/guest book table.

  17. Hey Ladies! So after writing Lizzie a more "pushy" email, she got back to me RIGHT AWAY!!! I was in shock! Here is what I wrote (her response is in blue): Hola Lizzie! "Thank you for the attachments, however not many of my questions were answered! I understand that we do not get an on-site coordinator assigned until 90 days before. Kelly Parker" She sent me a few more attachments I pretty much already had, but did at least get a few things I wanted answered. Again her responses are in blue and mine are in red: Immaculate Conception Package * We are in the final stages of our Pre-Cana and are getting ready to submit our paperwork to our diocese. Is there anything you need from us? at the meeting time on the onside wedding cordinator please bring all the documents ok * Because the Catholic ceremony is not legal in Mexico and we must do the legal part in our hometown, can we do it after we get back home if we chose instead of before we leave? 18. WOW they look amazing!!!!!!!! Where did you get yours? Your video was incredible by the way! I emailed them, but they are booked for my date. They did refer me to Lunch Pail Pictures, which looks very similar to theirs. If you don't mind me asking, how much did this run you? I'm assuming you also paid for their flights/accommodations? I hope I hope I hope that Moon Palace will let me do these! Congrats on such a beautiful wedding!!
  19. Hey Ladies! I feel like it has been forever! I have been so crazy busy at work and with travels back home to MT for weddings and HS reunions! I feel like I haven't done ANYTHING in the last few weeks! So after quite a bit of badgering from my FI, Lizzie FINALLY emailed me back! Unfortunately it wasn't helpful AT ALL. She did not answer even ONE of my questions! This is what her response was to the full list of questions I emailed: Thank your for your email. Please find enclosed the planner for the inmaculate ceremony, and the private events. 90 day before your wedding will assign one wedding planner, she will contact you in orden to block the areas and planning all the details, all the areas are subject to availability, however we can not blocked a specific area for your events, we need to wait that one wedding planner contact you 90 day before your wedding. Right....the "planner" wasn't anything but a description of the package and a few details about doing a Catholic ceremony that we already knew such as getting everything done here with our church before we go. SERIOUSLY?!? 90 days??? This must be a joke! It seems as though there are several brides out there who have gotten their coordinator assigned way before that. I just know that it will be the same as Beatyea is going through. We are down to 172 days at this point, and things are just going to get more hectic from this point with the holidays coming up! We are now going to send another more pushy email and see what happens. I'm crossing my fingers and just PRAYING that they will give in and assign us our coordinator! COCO- LOVE the OOT bags! I need to start mine so bad! UGHHHHH that is the one thing stressing me out...I just don't know if I should start buying things and hope I have enough!
  20. Hey ladies!! I got my engagement pictures back! Here are just a handful on our photographer's blog ! I am really happy with them. There are of course pictures that I don't absolutely LOVE, but all in all I think she did an amazing job and has a great eye. We will definitely use her again if we ever need pictures in the future!!
  21. OK ladies!! I got my engagement pictures back! Here are just a handful on our photographer's blog ! I am really happy with them. There are of course pictures that I don't absolutely LOVE, but all in all I think she did an amazing job and has a great eye. We will definitely use her again if we ever need pictures in the future!!
  22. Congrats and welcome! I will be using Del Sol for my photography! I am super excited about it and can't wait for them to work their magic!! I haven't confirmed what the fee is yet, but Matt told me that he has a good working relationship with Palace resorts and we should have no issues. Happy Planning!!
  23. I think I am MOST excited about working with the Del Sol team! Melissa and Matt have been so sweet and helpful throughout this entire process....I can say they have been the most accomodating and least stressful part of this planning. You can't go wrong with such amazing photographers! We will have Juan Jose for our wedding and Matt for our TTD. I can't WAIT!!! We are going to use Marvin from Diseno Floral. YES he is waaaaaay cheaper! The resort flowers are rediculous! A BM bouquet will run you $70-$100 and a corsage/bout will be $30+ Not only that, but I can't say I'm very impressed with their quality of arrangements...kind of ugly and out dated. The pictures Marvin sent me were pretty much exactly what I was looking for! No worries on questions. That is what this whole forum is about!
  24. No it hasn't changed...people are just being creative at getting around it. I am going to use Del Sol for our photography, and from what they said is that they have a good working relationship with Palace. Exceptions will be made, but sometimes there are fees involved. We are also going to use an outside florist...he usually delivers the flowers to you as "a present from someone back home", and all the brides that have done that seem to get away with it completely.
  25. Why thank you! In regards to a TA, the reason I got one was so I could direct everyone to her instead of having to answer a million questions from all my guests. Also she will be able to get me a list of when and how long people will be staying. And of course she is able to give you a slightly discounted rate for the rooms. I found ours on this website. Her name is Teresa from Vacations for Less Inc. She is free from what I understand! And the best part is we get the booking perks through her as well!!!!! BUT if you are going to use your Mom's membership, I don't think you would even be able to use a TA anyways. Not positive about that one though! It sounds like you have a lot checked off your list already! Woo Hoo! It feels so good every time you get to cross one off right?!? Well if you are at MP early enough, maybe all us "wedding sisters" can get together for some late night drinks! Happy Planning!!!!
