  1. Hi Isd203, I haven't really looked into it myself too much, since my fiance is dead set on a dj, but I hear the band Balance is really good. Here's their website http://www.balancelabanda.com/. No idea what their prices are, but I'm guessing quite a bit more expensive than a dj (though I could be wrong). Hope this helps!
  2. Kate, your wedding was amazing! Great pics- it seems the resort photographer does a really great job- I agree, some of the outside photographers are waaay more expensive, but your pictures came out gorgeous. I love your colors too, the aqua and orange look really pretty together!
  3. Thanks for the info Rach, that's really good to know! Yeah, I've read that most bars close pretty early...we originally wanted a later ceremony time (around 4) but she said only 2 pm was available (which I'm now ok with) so this should work out-we'll just have everyone meet at one of the bars like you're planning. This will definitely help with costs...Thank you and good luck- you must be so excited!
  4. I know I'm a little late but REALLY?! They're not charging the $500 outside vendor fee anymore? Yaaayyy!! I hope this is really the case. I just sent Ana an email yesterday about some other things so I guess I'll wait before asking her about this. I worry cause it seems each coordinator gives each bride different info. We're on tight budget and would really like to get rid of cocktail hour for extra dinners (which is what I just emailed about) so we'll see what she says. I've heard of a bunch of brides doing this but recently I know someone on here said her coordinator told her no. Does anyone know if you can do that? Trade in cocktail hour (have everyone meet at a bar instead) and have 30 dinners instead of 20? An extra 10 dinners instead of cocktail hour is mostly what I've seen on this forum... Sharon, where did you order your dress from? I haven't gone dress shopping yet but I've been looking online alot. I know its risky but some of the dresses or so much cheaper! That stinks about your dress- I take it there are no refunds? I'm sure you'll find something soon! Ashlynn, thanks for posting that-I'll have to check out that website for our chair sashes.
  5. I STILL can't upload my profile pic! Does anyone know if there's a trick to this, or if there's a way to get around this issue? It keeps reading that "unknown object" message no matter what I try!!
  6. Kya101, same thing-I was getting frustrated because I wasn't hearing back-I filled out the form last week. I kept checking my email and nothing- then today I realized that they replied to my other email address (I provided one when I filled out the form, but I had used a different one when I signed up with bdw, and that's where they replied). Not only that, but it went into junk mail, which I hadn't checked. Check your junk mail, cuz it turned out they did reply quickly but I didn't know it. Good luck!
  7. Krsmith, I'm on the same boat. I know that deposit gets credited towards your wedding or stay, but I just wasn't expecting to have to put that much money up front, right now. I guess what's throwing me off is that in browsing through other bride's invites/std's, I've seen some that write something like "please put down a deposit of $$ by this date, so you will be included in our room block." I was under the impression that the TA would give you a date when the deposit was needed by, and if your guests want to be included in that rate, they would put down their own deposit by that date. I'm finding out that's not the case. Maybe it differs by resort? Either way, I was surprised by this too.
  8. Carbaholic, I was curious about this too. Does anyone know if they're still using Deco Cancun-or who they're using now? I think the $500 outside vendor fee is ridiculous... maybe $100 but $500? That's crazy! When Ana sent me a list of approved vendors, under furniture and decor it says "pending"...I really hope they don't get rid of them too. As far as the approved DJ, has anyone found anything out about him? I tried searching his name (which they told me is Mauricio Neri) and company (Visual Sound) but I didn't come up with anything. The fact that he doesn't have a website makes me nervous...I hope the people at the resort know what they're doing
  9. I tried yesterday and it was saying the same thing. I thought maybe I just didn't know what I was doing, lol.
  10. Thank you for posting these pics Diamondgirl! LOVE the centerpieces!!
  11. Great job! They came out beautiful. I actually bought some of the Martha Stewart punches as well (starfish around the page & corner) but I'm not sure how I'm going to use them yet. Thanks for the inspiration!
  12. OMGoodness, these are fantastic! You're very talented, I doubt people believed you made these yourself-they look sooo professional! Great job!
  13. MR1124, I was going to ask the same thing. I'm pretty confident in our decision to get married in Mexico, but of course there are a few people in our group (mostly older) that are asking us to reconsider our destination. I agree that the news stories about Mexico are a little scary (to say the least), but I have yet to hear any bride on this forum voice serious safety concerns about this area. I went to Cabo a few years ago, and as long as you stay within the tourist areas and don't do anything stupid, you should be fine. That's my opinion, anyway-if anyone knows anything different based on experience, please share...
  14. Can anyone tell me the vendor policy at DRC? I'm wondering about the photographer and DJ. I know the resort only works with certain ones...do you contact these vendors directly or does the WC do that? What if you choose someone that the resort doesn't work with-can you bring in outside vendors (and how much does the resort charge)? I don't want to wait too long before choosing. I'm totally confused! Any advice would be helpful. I'm getting married this December and it might be Dec before the coordinator replies back! lol Oh and also, do you pay them directly or throught the resort? Thanks!
  15. I love this too!! Sooo cute...I'm sure the comments would get funnier as the night progressed! Very clever guestbook idea!
  16. Thank you for the update BethAnne! Good luck with your wedding- have a great time and ENJOY it! PBJwed, I LOVED your wedding- everything was beautiful! The furniture on the sand for cocktail hour was amazing. Did you contact EW Cancun yourself or did you go through the resort? I sent them an email asking for a price list but they said they work with the hotel coordinator or they could give me a price if I had a specific idea in mind. Any advice you could give me would be helpful! Thanks, Lily
  17. How funny Irishdonna! You must be super excited too! We bounced around a few dates- we didn't want it to be too close to either Thanksgiving or Christmas, and FI insisted on a Sat so... Dec 3rd seemed perfect- now I'm just hoping for beautiful weather : ) It's out of hurricane season (which we were happy about) but as far a rain, I guess it's pretty unpredictable there...fingers crossed though!! Good luck! (we have a lot of planning to do, lol!)
  18. Your boarding passes and jackets are fantastic!! You did a great job...totally inspired me to make these for our STDs. I started making passport stds, but I think I'll make the boarding passes now and use the passports as our invites...thank you for being so detailed and listing how much everything cost you too-very helpful!
  19. Hi everyone! I'm a newbie too...this forum has my head spinning (but in a good way : ) Irishdonna & KD2011--have you guys decided on dates yet? It took a while, but we've finally decided on Dec 3, 2011. Can't wait! Maritza- Def let us know how the site visit goes- I'm so jealous! Congrats and have a great time!
  20. Hi Everyone! Sooo this is my very first post...I've been lurking around for the past month or two, and I have to say, I'm completely overwhelmed, lol! I'm so happy I found this forum though, because there's so much useful information on here. I'm such a newbie it's not even funny...let's just say I'd never heard of an OOT bag before this site! My fiance & I decided a long time ago that we wanted a DW-I didn't even have to talk him into it! I have a really small family, we both love the beach and we're completely house poor (bought a house last spring) so this was a no-brainer for both of us. After searching and researching a zillion resorts, we finally decided on DRC- our wedding is booked for Dec 3, 2011- super excited about all the planning to come! Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself- my name is Lily btw- and say hello to all the brides I will be pestering in the next year or so with all of my questions : ) Actually, I do have one now... I really wanted to do a sunset sailing for our guests as a thank you for coming to the wedding (thinking the evening after our wedding). Has anyone done this or have suggestions on good companies that perhaps don't cost an arm & a leg? When I was looking at DPA as a resort option, I loved that they had a dock practically at the end of their driveway. I found a company called Paradise Catamarans in Playa that seems great (good reviews). I just don't know if there's anything closer to Puerto Morelos. Transporting that many people (30-50? don't know yet) makes me a little nervous . I haven't really seen this mentioned on this thread (although I very well could have missed it), but I figured I'd throw it out there anyway just in case someone had a suggestion. Thank you all!! -Lily
