Should bridesmaids expect the bride/ groom to pay for thier dress?
AshleyL replied to mjm's topic in Just venting or funnies
I have been in a couple wedding parties as a BM. One was a DW that cost me over $2000 to attend and in both weddings I paid for my own dress (I didn't pick either dress and I don't think I will wear either one again). For my wedding party the girls are all paying for their own dresses but I'm keeping the price around $40. I will buy the dress for my junior bridesmaid because her parents have done sooo much for me including buying my wedding dress! I will buy the girls their jewelry as a gift. -
Those are awesome!

Rude Remarks When Mentioning DW in Mexico..Anyone Else?
AshleyL replied to Bride2Be21's topic in Just venting or funnies
Hey, I know how you feel. FFIL is giving us a hard time about our choice of Jamaica because he thinks it is too dangerous. He prefers us to go to Mexico, but I think the REAL reason is because he winters in Arizona and it will be much cheaper to travel to Mexico for him. Oh well, I stuck with my guns on this one -
My fiance and I were in Europe last year and I kinda figured the big question was coming (at every hotel he would put a mysterious bag in the safe and I wasn't allowed to have the passcode lol). We started out in London, then Scotland and finally Paris. Every time we were at some romantic little spot I was thinking is this it? But it was hard to find anywhere very private. It was nearing the end of our trip when we arrived in Paris. First stop was the Eiffel Tower just down the block from our hotel - completely packed with tourists - and... nothing. I was beginning to think he would run out of time and end up proposing in Heathrow Airport on our way home. One of our last days in Paris we decided to catch the train to the Palace of Versailles outside of Paris. We arrived at Versailles and the Gardens were breathtaking - beautiful sculptures, fountains, music piped out of the hedges, and the famous geometric flower gardens. In the centre of the gardens is a huge, man-made lake in the shape of a cross with swans and little row boats. We started walking the gardens, following each little path and we would come upon a gorgeous fountain, or arch way - all packed with fellow tourists. For lunch we grabbed some fresh, squeezed OJ and a ham and cheese baguette and ate by the lake watching the swans. After lunch FI suggested renting a little row boat. We got in the boat, and were floating along with other boats filled with families, and couples, but the far end of the lake looked pretty deserted. FI started rowing towards the other side, another couple seemed to have the same idea and both guys started rowing as fast as they could while the other girl and I watched the little race bemused. Eventually we pulled ahead, and the other guy conceded and waved us on. FI kept rowing and soon enough were were completely alone at the far end of the lake. He got down on one knee (which is no small feat in a rowboat) and asked me to marry him. I said 'yes' (of course) and I cried (of course). It was so romantic and I was impressed that he managed to find such a seclude spot in that busy place. It was perfect except for the blisters that my poor FI had from all that rowing.

Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?
AshleyL replied to kerrij's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
My FI was having trouble finding a suit. We want something light coloured but not linen (wrinkles easily). The problem is that he is very broad in the shoulders and needs a large jacket, the pants that usually come with that size jacket end up be way too big. We finally found a line of separates by Calvin Klein. The best part is that they are on sale at Tip Top Tailors! For the groomsmen we are thinking khaki pants and white button down shirt. Still debating if we want them to wear ties to match with the bridesmaid dresses. -
Awesome thread ladies. Before this forum I had never even heard of oot bags (and I have attended a cuple DW's). I love the idea and I think my guests will too! Now to start shopping. I was wondering about the wet bikini bags from Avon - couldn't find them on the website. Do any of you know how to get them? Do I need an Avon rep to order? Thanks!

Well at least you can get your STD's out first. If she isn't even engaged yet hopefully she will change the date once word of your wedding gets out -
Mikaella Dress #1406
AshleyL replied to courtney_b00's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
This is my dress too! I love it! Mine will be in by October -
Very helpful list. Complete Noob question here: what does OOT stand for? I figured out STD (although trust me there was some confusion on that one ) and AHR but I can't figure out this one. I was at a DW in Domnican this past January, and there was nothing like this handed out. Are they fairly common, and expected? Thanks

Hello Everyone, Well it has taken me a couple of days but I have finally finished reading all these posts (good thing it has been slow at work . So much great information on here! So I'm not technically a Calgary bride (Red Deer shhh) but I did get my dress at Ethos in Calgary. FI and I are getting married at the Bahia Principe in Jamaica, February 7th, 2010. My TA is through Flight Centre and we are booked with Nolitours for the package. I still have to find bridesmaid dresses but it's already getting late in the season, so if any of you ladies have recommendations that would be great. Ashley

Any Gran Bahia Principe brides out there?
AshleyL replied to tris's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Akua420 - just confirmed dates with the TA and Beverly. We fly to Jamaica February 4th and get married February 7th. Most of our guests are only staying for a week but we might stay an extra week at another resort if we can get a good price. I know that you mentioned your price for a week at Bahia was around $2000. Our price is similar and we are using Nolitours, I asked them if they would honor a price drop for our guests if they reduced prices before our departure. They said that they will honor a one time price drop for our guests that have put down deposits but only if it is more than 60 days from our departure, and only if there is room for the same number of people from our group for the re-quote. Talk to your TA, maybe they will be able to do something like that for you. -

I emailed Beverly to make sure the date I wanted was available. She responded quickly that she needed our full names to book the date. I sent her the info and she sent me an email confirming the date and time within a couple of hours. She hasn't asked for any kind of deposit yet, but we are putting our trip deposit down with the TA today, so maybe once that is booked Beverly will want our wedding pkg deposits? -
Hi ladies! I'm not quite an Edmonton bride (Red Deer) but I have been to a few bridal stores there with friends. I found the assistants at Sposabella to be very rude when I went shopping there with my bf. She ended up getting her dress at Novella and I went to all of her fittings with her. The owner was great to work with and they did an awesome job on the fittings. I ended up getting my dress at Ethos Calgary, ordered it in April but it won't be In until October. That seemed like a long time to me but they ladies there were very helpful and patient. I ordered a Mikaella dress and it was $1100.

What time is your ceremony?
AshleyL replied to selassie11's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I chose 4pm. I wanted it to be a bit cooler and I didn't want too long between the ceremony and dinner.
