  1. Thanks ladies! Lesley, a J&J or Stag & Doe are like fundraisers for the couple. You may charge people entry ($10person/$15couple, sometimes upwards of $40 depending on the venue and type of event you are looking for). Usually there are games, raffles, and sometimes gambling. There is food....either appetizers or dinner (depending on the time of day you start). Cheap drinks are always a hit and a DJ. If we do end up with a J&J it would be at a legion hall, $10/pp, games, gambling, finger foods (made by us and close family/friends), cheap drinks ($2-$3), and dancing! My one bridesmaid has suggested having it as a Halloween party!!! Could be fun/different!
  2. I was also told dinner at 6:30 and our wedding is at 1pm, so I'm guessing everyones dinner is then.... My FI and I are just going to buy a couple bottles and mix. We also only have the gazebo for 2hrs., and figured that we could have some there for the beginning, and then let people go for the walk! Hopefully they'll come back! After 1030 we just plan on making our way to the disco to keep the celebration going! We used a TA to book everything all inclusive. The only time I was given separate flight/accommodation pricing was when I was looking into pricing for people who only want to come for 3 nights.....All my guest had to give a $200 deposit and the remainder was due 2months before we leave....
  3. Totally confused too!! It looks nicer, but oh man am I getting confused!!
  4. Hey, My FI is wearing a white linen suit from Stockhomme (in Fairview Mall and Yorkdale Mall) and a light blue shirt (still not sure of the style for that). We decided to go against the tie as its probably gonna be too hot. The groomsmen are wearing the same pants and shirt as my FI, but they aren't going to have a jacket. On another note, I confirmed with Beverly that you are able to purchase bottles of liquor for our reception in the beach gazebo and therefore would not need a bartender. She didnt say how much each bottle cost, but it has to be less then a bartender!!
  5. soooo annoying!! I hope your friend changes her date!! But either way, you are gonna have an amazing day!! WOOHOO!!!
  6. Mekanabr, I'm getting married at 1pm....I wanted 2pm (really so that people had enough time to get up, but not drink too much), but there was another wedding booked for 4:30, so Beverly asked me to do it at 1....its gonna be hot!! but super pretty!!!
  7. Hey Mekanabr, I'm getting married on a wednesday for a two reasons... 1. we only wanted to missing one wk /5days/ or work, therefore travelling saturday-saturday 2. we wanted to be there for a couple days before/after the wedding Hope that helps!

Hey JR, I'm also from Toronto!! Getting married in November! I dont know if you have committed to a TA yet, but I used Weddings by Oceans, and they really got me the best price. I had about 3-4 different TA's looking into pricing for me and they beat out everyone! I found them at the wedding show in January, but other then that all of our sorting of details has been over the phone or email. They have a website if you wanna check them out! GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS!!!
  9. Congrats!! It's gonna be lots of fun planning!!
  10. Hey Sunchick, Did you have a bar at the beach gazebo for the reception?? I am just wondering b/c we havent decided what to do yet, and I'm trying to way the pros and cons....basically $ vs. convenience....was the resort bar close enough to the gazebo that my guest could walk to it and I would not have to hire a bartender to be stationed at the gazebo?? Thanks!!
  11. akua, I'm doing the same thing!! lol....all my g/f love taking pictures so I might as well use them!! One g/f is a photographer so she is going to take some of the posed photos that I just need!!
  12. I went with a bright blue! so I'm just going to stick with white linens... I'm sure you can stick with the white linens too, and just throw bits of colour in with the centre pieces!! It will look beautiful!!
  13. Im going barefoot!! I did buy a pair of white flip flops from Old Navy to wear during the reception dinner. But I plan on being barefoot for pictures, ceremony and dancing on the beach after dinner! I'm soooooo excited!!
  14. Hey, We are getting married at 1pm and then having a mini reception/toast on the beach, along with pictures....Its 1.5hrs altogether. We are having dinner around 530 and then have a private reception on the beach gazebo from 730-10. I figure its my night and I wanna party!! Its only an extra $550 for the beach gazebo and dj....totally worth it!!
  15. I am hoping to stay under $10,000. I think it will be possible.... flight/accommodations $3000 dress $1000 (with alterations) grooms clothes $150 invitations $250 wedding package $1200 private beach reception w/dj $550 photographer - friend....maybe $300...paying for film, developing and an extra thanks guest gifts a/b $300 mani/pedi for bridal party and mothers...??....theres 6 of us.... groomsmen gifts....fi is not sure...lol...he likes to wait til the last minute for everything...
  16. really?? I dont understand why anyone would buy a second dress. If you are trashing your dress then trash it. so what if you spent a crazy amount of money on it....you still NEVER going to wear it again, so you either trash it and enjoy the full experience or you waste more money on yet another dress and then hang your super expensive in your closet to collect dust and do nothing....
  17. I think its silly to buy another dress just to trash....I mean the point is to trash it!! lol!!
  18. I definitely think that we will get less gifts then normal...but at the same time I'm not expecting any. I really dont want/need anything. My FI and I have been living together for a while and neither of us has patience, so when we see something we want we buy it! LOL!! My future mother-in-law is however planning a shower for me in September, and insisting that I register, so I know people will bring gifts there, but I'm definitely not expecting or wanting anyone to bring anything to Jamaica! I actually wish I had thought of putting "We would like your presence in lieu of gifts" on my invites!!
  19. Hey Jenny, I am getting married on Nov 24 at 1pm!!! only 6months and 3 days!! woohoo!!...not that I'm counting or anything!!
  20. That sounds like a really neat idea! But now is the option to do an AHR not there? Would this be all you do? I've kinda been having issues deciding what to do because we are getting married at the end of November, so then ppl. have Christmas / New years, I didnt know if maybe doing something in January is pushing it....maybe I could do something before??....mmmm....thanks for the idea...
  21. Hey! Not at all!! Beverly is the coordinator and sometimes she response asap, but other times it takes a while! There is another GBP thread on here with lots of info! and even some pix of a recent wedding. There is also a thread in the general information section. If you want to pm me with your email I can forward you the wedding package info so you can look at it....The place looks amazing!! I can't wait to get there!! only 6 months left! When is your wedding?
  22. Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone is having a Jack and Jill? We are having some issues regarding this issue. My future brother-in-law wants to have one for us, but after I told my sister about some of the ideas I was told that we were rude and shouldnt be asking people for money when they are coming to a destination wedding....totally understandable, but not that many people (particularly my family) are coming to the wedding...and along with that all my friends that are coming, go out partying every weekend, so why not have a "cheaper" night out and help support us?!?! Any thoughts, suggestions, opinions?? Totally wont be offended! Just trying to get some feedback.... Thanks!!
  23. Hi Mekanabr, I decided on the sunshine package b/c its not much different then the blissful and is cheaper. I went through a travel agent to book everything and what we did was increase the price by $35per person so that it helps cover the additional plates...after all the flights are paid for the travel agent will refund me the "extra" money and I will bring that with me to the resort and give that money to Beverly....or put it on my credit card....I also confirmed that the date I wanted was available first, b/c I knew we wanted the specific date. Once she said that it was available I told the travel agent(s) what resort I wanted and then waited for them to get back to me...then I went with the best price! Hope this helps! Good Luck with the move!!!!
  24. Hey Ladies, Is anyone having a Jack 'n Jill before the wedding? Or a reception after?? Just looking for ideas/suggestions.... Thanks!
