Waiting for date confirmation from Sandra. I'm wondering, how did you choose between Colonial vs. Elegance? I'm just a bit confused as to what the real difference might be! Also, any former brides out there from May, 2009? What was the weather like? Does the resort get "crowded" during the weekends? Any recommendations to which room to book (if we get a choice) So many questions! Thanks in advance! I was there the last week of May for a site visit/family vacation and we stayed on the colonial side. I chose the colonial side because I was more comfortable with it and felt that it would be better for my wedding and the guests that are attending it. The elegance is beautiful but was alittle more money. I am staying 2 weeks so we are having our wedding at the colonial and booked a basic room (we get an upgraded based on availability) and then we are moving to the elegance club and booked a swim up room so we are in the adults only portion. I liked this because it'll give us a change of scenery for the second week and it'll feel more honeymoonish in the adults only elegance club. Goodluck with your wedding and try to get a date soon because I had heard May fills up really fast!

Also they do multiple weddings a day!

It rained in the afternoon for ~20 min, overnight, or in the evening but never did it interfere with our plans and it was actually refreshing.

Also....they clearly state this from the very beginning! I was told 15 rooms each for 7 nights or longer. And it had to be at the regular rate which means no early booking specials or group rates. I for one would rather save my guests money for their stay rather than save $1250 for the "free wedding" because I got the early booking special for $105/night which is extremely cheap! People just need to open their ears and hear everything rather than the bits and pieces they choose to and this way no one will get any "nasty surprises" when they show up. Sorry for the rant but this really annoys me that people don't pay attention to this. It's not like the Majestic is trying to hide this fact and shame on the TAs for not knowing this.

Check out the Majestic Colonial Resort. We are paying $1250 for a symbolic ceremony (getting married legally in the US 1st bc it is cheaper) and get our ceremony, flowers for bride and groom, included dinner for all our guests, and it's an all inclusive resorts so there's plenty to drink and do. We then hired photography/video for $3000 total...but I splurged here...you could pay alot less. The resort has it's own photographers and you can spend what you wish. Goodluck researching!

I sent it home with my sister and she took it in her carry-on, and although it did blend a little, it still looks pretty good.. She didn't have any issues with customs - if you used colored sand and it's a wedding momento, I can't imagine customs taking it away.. I found something online about using candle wax to seal it - Sand Ceremony, Wedding Sand Ceremony, Sand Ceremony Set, Sand Ceremony Sets Here are the instructions - After the festivities, fill the rest of the main sand ceremony vase with the remaining sand, layering colors to create a design. Leave 1/2 inch from the top of the vase. Melt clear wax or candle gel using a double boiler or microwave. Gently, pour the wax or gel on the top of the sand, leveling it even with the vase. When the wax dries, you may leave the sand ceremony vase as it is for a keepsake. If you do not want to see the wax, place a circle of coordinating cloth around the top of the vase and secure it with a rubber band. Then place a ribbon around the rubber band. Use a scrap of cloth leftover from the veil, bridesmaid dresses or groomsmen handkerchiefs and ribbons from the bridal bouquet for a special keepsake vase. Love that idea!!! thank you so much!

For all you married gals... How did you get your sand ceremony stuff home without 1.) having anyone in the airport dump it out or 2.) without the sand dumping out or having anything break? Another bride on my facebook forum wondered and I did too so I thought I'd ask it on here. We had heard the airports may not let you take the sand out of the country...even though we brought it with us. Thanks!

I do however think that there are many beautiful resorts for weddings that are less money and that should be considered. I would have loved to go to Fiji and get married... but that is several thousand dollars and I knew my family and friends couldn't afford it. I think you need to look at your priorities...do you want all your friends and family in the same place for a week together which in my opinion is the purpose of a DW or do you want the most expensive resort that people equate to the most beautiful (not necessarily true) as your backdrop for your wedding. I don't think you can blame people for wanting to find less expensive alternatives...maybe they honestly can't afford $2000+ for a week's vacation per person. Either way it's your call and if people won't stay at your resort then just be accepting of it.

He is extra but the Majestic does allow him to come to the resort. If you don't contact him...the WC does the symbolic ceremony. I wanted a christian ceremony and it to be done in english so I went with him. We are doing the Hands ceremony and a sand ceremony. -

Thx Majestic is less expensive than Paradisus...its all up to what you can afford to spend and what you expect your guests to spend.

(i know it's not too original, i've seen this done before with pics of the couple, but we really didn't have enough of those available, as we didn't take engagement pics. if you're in the same boat, and like the photo book idea, this is an alternative)! anyway, here it is: Shutterfly | View share it cost me about $25, and i don't have it in my possession yet to be able to comment on quality. a cheaper alternative would be to print pics yourself and just scrapbook them, leaving plenty of space for signing around them! I did something similar...I took our engagement pictures and had them printed as 5x7. I bought a nice scrapbook from Michael's and used a 50% off coupon so I only spent $12.50 and I bought black photo corners for $3.00 and white 12x12 paper. So for about $30 I am making an album for my engagement pics and then I will have each page on a table at our AHR so guests can sign around the pictures and write us messages, advice, wishes. I figured this was a great way to house our pictures and have something meaningful from each of our guests. I will post pics once completed!
