  1. this thread made me laugh. my FI puts it down and the lid as well and yells at me if I forget! seriously. his reasoning is our 2 giants dogs and his fear of them using it as a water bowl. I have never seen them do this, the only come in the bathroom while we shower to guard us lol. but when my friends come over he has the nerve to yell at them too. if only he were this meticulous about other things in the house.
  2. thanks for all of your responses. I know it can go either way but where I live there seems to be a need to outdo each other rather than just enjoying your friends one last time as a single girl.
  3. How much money did your girls have to spend for a night out with you? Who footed the bill etc? If you don't mind me asking. I am starting to talk about this with my MOH at the same time a friend of mine is having hers and it seems extravagant. I declined to go to a portion of it for financial reasons and now her MOH is making a big fuss about all of this. What is considered standard and what did you girls do? I am sure everyone has a blast no matter how well or under funded the party is.
  4. I have read all this posts and all I have to say is I feel for you that someone you thought would be supportive isn't. I would say I agree with some of the other advice, don't cut her out of the wedding for 3 reasons. 1. yes, you still have to work with her. 2. it is technically rude to take away the title like BM or whatever, even if you think she is not doing her part (unless of course it's like what one of the other girls said, a GM said he had feelings for the bride, not appropriate). 3. not everyone you work with knows whats going on i'm sure but if you fire her, they will. Honestly it sounds like she is jealous, you are happy and getting married and have a lot of friends paying attention to you and your impending day. what does she have...a lot of homework lol. I know the heart to heart didn't work, but before you just treat her like a regular guest, which is great advice, maybe try and make her feel extra special and she might come around and the friendship could be repaired if you are still interested in that. I really hope it all works out for you.
  5. I used weddingwindow.com. I found an online code that extended the 1 year payment of $75 to 15 months. So this way when we return next year from our honeymoon I can change the information to include our AHR since we have a lot of out of town guests. I thought it was a bit pricey but I loved the templates and thought it was easy to navigate and offered a few details that some of the free sites didn't. www.keithandrebecca.weddingwindow.com For all your ocho rios brides feel free to steal my information about travel and things to do, I went a little overboard but we have some serious outdoor enthusiasts coming and I wanted to make sure they had all the info to make their "vacation" a good one. for the wedding window code try here: Wedding Window Coupon Codes - all coupons, discounts and promo codes for weddingwindow.com it's the first one and says 95% success rate...it worked for me!
  6. My FI did not ask my father permission and I was happy that he didn't. My dad has played such a minimal role in my life that I felt it would be disrespectful to me to ask him. I didn't even have to tell him that though, my FI assumed the same. He did have my best friend help with ring sizes and design so I was surprised and on Easter the first time our mom's met he casually told my mom that when we went to Jamaica the following month he planned on asking, but that was it. No traditional talk, but he and I are so far from traditional anyway.

Plus, our weight is plastered on the front of our driver's license which i think is weird! That's how my FI found out too. darn Wii! it told us we were both obese and we just cracked up laughing and he said he loved me anyway (he better!) we are both short and round, I am 5'1 and in between a size 8 and 10, a while ago he asked me how much I weighed and he guessed 125, I told him thanks for being so sweet since that is a bit far from the truth...really guys have no idea. I'm just happy he has 50 lbs on me.
  8. Actually, maybe a bar would work. A lot of places on the east side between 12th street and 34th street have multiple levels and roof decks. I used to work on 26th and Park and there was a place called tonic on 30th street I believe (I know its out of the way from union square) and it had 2 regular floors and a roof deck and every time we would want to organize an after work function we would just call ahead and we would be accommodated for no extra charge, we did this on weekends sometimes too. They also have a full menu and an appetizer menu. I bet we could find something like this in Union Square too. I'll keep a look out and let everyone know if I find something worthwhile.
  9. I think Union Square is a great idea. lots of places to choose from and lots of connecting subway lines. count me in.

I'll follow the sun.
  11. I personally like the seahorses and sand dollar the best. the starfish is ok although my future mother in law loved it and I think the palm tree is cute (my FI's fav). they are being sent with a real sand dollar which is why I am hesitating to do the sand dollar...too much repitition?
  12. Ok here we go again...I hope this works. and now they are too tiny. ugh I give up. but you get the idea.
  13. we are registering for the same reason of the shower and for guests who cannot make it.
  14. I feel you girls I am soooo done with this weather. all our plants are dying. i'm pale and my dogs are going nuts. this is NOT summer weather. I am contemplating a move from jersey to somewhere always sunny and hot. like Arizona.
  15. Hi ladies, I designed all my monograms myself and sent them to my close family members to vote on their favorites. they were still kind of all over the place so I would love it if you tell me what you think. I had originally tried to load HTML...doesn't work and apparently the links don't either. I am going to post a new one with attachments, and I apologize to those of you who won't be able to open them. flickr s*cks.
  16. thanks Scott-Pierre our friend is actually baking many flavors in one with no decorative theme...purely for taste. and our family is getting together to watch movies, eat pasta and eat cake. we are into food lol! I'm glad they'll answer questions and go by a photo. very nice. Jamaican trust ;o)
  17. thanks so much. we are having our friend who is a baker here make up some "tropical" options for us and a traditional rum cake so we can see what we like, I was just hoping it wasn't for fun and actually would come in handy.
  18. I bought my dress today!!! But now I am totally confused. the salon I went to which has an excellent reputation pulled the "oh we don't know which designer this is" stunt. obviously, they know. How would they be able to order it if they didn't? Anyway, I went for it because it was almost exactly like the Paloma Blanca dress I was about to order but about $1,000 less. I asked the sales lady who it was by after purchasing it because my mom lives out of town and i wanted to show her "the dress". she told me it was Mackenzie Michael's...who only make bridesmaids gowns! does anyone know of a designer that sounds like Mackenzie Michael's or of a website that shows bridal gowns by them that I am just not finding? thanks!
  19. we got engaged in May of 2008 and had a party in July. My mom insisted we have one which I thought was odd. In the end we decided to have one because my Fiancee is from NJ and so is his family and friends and I am from CT and my family is spread out around New England and we wanted everyone to meet before the wedding. We ended up throwing the party ourselves in my FI's mom's backyard and footing the whole bill. I made all the appetizers and decorations and had family help set up. for desert I made cupcakes and decorated each one. My FI owns a bar so he came up with 3 signature drinks that we served in giant punch bowls along with beer and wine to cut down on expenses. it turned out to be about 40 people and we partied until about 1am. I even went swimming in my dress (I think I sampled a little too much "punch"). Everyone had a great time and they said it made them more excited for our actual wedding. Some people gave cash gifts which we didn't expect. it ended up covering the cost of the party with some left over for the wedding fund. we really just wanted an evening garden party to have everyone meet. I would say there is no real "etiquette" but don't make it seem like you are looking for handouts. I think they are just a good opportunity for families to start to become one. Now both are mom's are great friends and I couldn't be happier that is how they met.
  20. I have a question about Sheila's...can you tell them what flavor you want? Or do they just make what they feel like? or do they give you a few options to start. I saw drbrainfreeze photos and review, I thought your cake looked awesome, I loved the seashells you added, too cute!
  21. Your Photos are great and you both look so happy. congratulations.
