  1. I need some support and some words of wisdom. I will give you all a brief background and we can go from there. I have asked my sister-in-law to be my maid of honour... not because she is my best or closest friend but because we have drifted so far apart I thought it would help our relationship. She cried when I asked her but since then she has not really been into it except going along to buy bridesmaids dresses. Other than that she never brings the wedding subject up. She is not really into going to Mexico as she is a self proclaimed germ-a-phob and never misses an opportunity to ask me "Why Mexico? and remind me of all her fears of what "3rd world" problems we might enounter. My brother has been married to her for 15 years and for the first 10 years we were very, very close. Over the last 5 years she has become someone I do not even like so much and the rest of my family has had huge issues with her also. We have all tried to make peace with her but she is very opinionated and hurtful and we often feel what is the point. I was very close to my brother and my 2 wonderful neices but it had got to the point were if not seeing her meant not seeing them than so be it. I really feel she has no idea how hurtful she can be and even today Mother's day she was rude to my mom. I wanted to say something but did not want to rock the boat. So here I am stuck with a woman I do not like very much anymore as my maid of honour. I can't disinvite her so I need some advise as to how I can get through the next 6 months without causing an even bigger rift in the family. I know once I open my mouth I won't stop so I can't start. Help!!!! Thanks for listening to me vent,
  2. litl april, Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness on the gift of points. It helps a lot and I promise to pay it forward when I can. Tamasin
  3. Please make sure everyone is taking apples and apples Sandra. Some sound like individual prices, some might include the wedding they want and it also depends on time of year. We are at the Tropical so no sense giving our rates but check with a travel agent also before booking direct to see if you are getting the best deal! Good luck I think you made a great choice! Tamasin
  4. My big concern is wasting a full day in Mexico apart from my groom! We do not get married until 3pm and not to see him until then is going to kill me! Is it unacceptable to have breakfast together, then spend abit of time together before parting for our individual preparations? Tamasin
  5. How long can you wait for an AHR? We are getting married in Nov. and would really want a casual out door BBQ. My Mom thinks it needs to be at most a few weeks after but not to close to Christmas. We live in Canada so an out door BBQ in Nov/Dec. is out of the question, any advise? Tamasin
  6. Thanks that is what I thought too! Oh well...we will be in Mexico, on the beach marrying my baby who could ask for more!
  7. Hello, I am getting married on Nov. 12,2009 on the beach at the Barcelo. We are staying at the Tropical so the chapel is out for us. I am sooo excited! Good luck and please let me know what you hear, we arrive on the 7th so we will not be able to see your wedding day but maybe we can have a drink with the spouses! Tamasin
  8. Terry and I live together with our two dogs Aspen the little white bundle of joy and Jag our 150 pound rotti/shephard. Jag is always into some kind of trouble Marley has nothing on Jag! Several weeks before our engagement Jag had taken a frozen Prime Rib roast off the kitchen counter and in a blink of an eye it was gone with just a loose tooth to show for it! Nothing is safe for our counter surfer! The Big Day: I came home from work to find candles lite in the living room and my fav. music playing in the background. The wonderful smell of food hung in the air as did the excitment. I walked into the living room to see what was up and as soon as I caught Terry's eye he began to cry. He walked towards me and the tears began to flow as I knew what he was about to ask. He tried to get down on one knee but Jag and the little one Aspen got upset because of all the tears and were right at our feet. So Terry told me all the wonderful things he wanted to tell me and asked me to marry him, of course I said yes! Terry let out a hoot and began to hug me but Jag got over protective and started trying to break us apart by going through my legs and in between us. It was a very funny scene and I wished we would have had a video camera on us as I bearly stayed on my feet. Finally Terry told Jag to go sit and he actually listened. So the hugging and kissing continued in peace. Terry then all proud of himself told me he had bbq'd steaks and made a dinner fit for his queen. We turned toward the table and what did we see..... Jag eating our steaks! Terry got to the table just in time to save 1 of the steaks. We laughed and laughed as this truely made the already wonderful experience that much more memorable! Good thing we were so excited we weren't hungry anyway!! Tamasin

  12. I thought that you could only get married in the gazebo if you got married at the Palace? We have booked at the Tropical and booked the Seabreeze package and thought it was the beach locations only for the weddings. If I am wrong let me know as my fiance would love to get married in the Gazebo instead of the beach. thanks, Tamasin

  16. Hello, I am getting married Nov. 12/09 at the Barcelo Tropical in the Mayan Riveria. I have my dress and the bridesmaids dresses but really that is it. The men's outfits are causing me heart ache as I want them in casualwear, but don't want to spend US $$ does anyone know of any canadian locations for casual wedding wear or even canadian websites? thanks, Tamasin
  17. Does anyone know if you can change your wedding package after you have booked it? Right now I have the Sea breeze package but have been thinking about the beach packages. Does anyone have any pros and cons between the 2 packages. Tamasin
  18. Hello, Can anyone advise the best way to transport your wedding dress. Does it count as your one carry on piece? I am flying with Northwest. Thanks, Tamasin

  20. Kara, Hi, I am getting married at the Riu Yucatan in Nov. could you update me on any info you have for your wedding so far. I have not got anything from the hotel except the date and time. Where in the resort are you getting married? How many people are coming to your wedding? There seems to be very few of us at the Yucatan. Thanks, Tamasin
  21. Thanks Katrina, my email address is [email protected]. Can you discuss flowers also. Do you have a wide variety. I was hoping for gerbia daisy but not sure if they offer them. I have been hesitant about the Yucatan and the reason is the beach. I have always wanted a beach wedding but reading your info I am changing the plans. Is the beach nice enough to enjoy as a guest? I see some pictures which I think might be dated were the beach is a mess. I am hoping no one is disappointed in our choice of locations. thanks again, Tamasin
  22. Hi Katrina, I am getting married at the Riu in Nov. I loved your posts and they are like my bible. Can you tell me how much your welcome dinner cost you and also the marachi band. Also, you said you had vows for Las Calatas would you share them with me? I am very nervous about planning this. I want it to be different and memorable for both of us and our families and friends. What kinds of things did you put on your tables and in your loot bags? Anything you would change or that I should watch out for at the Yucatan? Thanks again for your great advise, Tamasin
