  1. I got my replica if it matters. Here's photos. It's not laced up real right so it doesn't look as good as it could. It also hadn't been altered at this point.

  3. Thanks! Most of the other people on etsy wanted to use my dress material just as a border or something but I LOVED the idea of making it a literal translation. A dress from my dress! My mom is super sentimental so I think she'll like it!

The staff made it seem like it was no big deal, but it was. I was so mad, but I didn't want to be 'that' girl who freaks out or cries in the bridal shop so I saved that for later. I was planning on wearing sandals and I brought a sample pair and you could see my whole foot. That was not how that was suppose to be. I didn't have any shoes on when they did the alterations but the seamstress knew I wasn't planning on wearing anything more than 1 inch thick. The sample shoes I brought were 1/2 inch thick. Both me & my mom think the dress looks stupid now and I feel very self concsious it it. The staff just kept saying well it's no big deal you are getting married on the beach. I had to remind them that it is a big deal cuz I won't be standing on sand the whole time, I still need to walk around the resort and we are having a formal at home reception when we get back. The staff told me the owner would call me on Monday to discuss this and she didn't. I wrote a formal letter/email of complaint to make her (owner) aware of the situation. She responded and said she had no idea any of this happened and didn't call Monday as she was off that day. She says she is going to call me tonight to discuss this. What should I be asking for done? I already said in the letter I wasn't paying for the alterations. I'm pretty sure it's too late too order another dress as it took 6 months to get in and our wedding is in 3 months. For those reading my dress is maggie sottero - kadence ivory (Kadence - by Maggie Sottero look at the picture and imagine seeing the models whole foot sticking out...that's what i'm dealing with. I'm so upset about this whole ordeal I don't even want to wear the dress anymore. I'm trying to justify going out and spending another $1000 on a dress. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks Oh man! I'm so sorry to hear you're having to deal with that. I agree, you should NOT have to go out and spend money on another dress because they messed up. I'm not a seamstress but one way to make it longer is to take out any volume it has underneath. BUT it looks like your dress doesn't really have any to take out... I think adding any sort of additional hem to add length just wouldn't look right but I know you can add lace or beaded details. I'm sure this isn't the first time it's happened and they they (hopefully!) have a few tricks up their sleeves. I applaud you for holding your tears, I wouldn't have been able to. I hope everything works out for you! Sorry i'm not more help...
  5. On our first dating anniversary I started a journal for him. We were doing long distance at the time and he LOVED the sweet letters/emails I'd send to him. I recapped our first year and try to update whenever something big happens or i'm feeling especially grateful for him. Even though I'll give it to him on our wedding day i'm sure i'll be writing in it long after the wedding....
  6. When I had my dress hemmed I asked the seamstress to keep the extra fabric. I wanted to do something special with it for the moms. I put up a request on etsy for ideas on how to use it on a hankie. I ended up going with a lady who would use the material to make a mini replica of my dress on the hankie with embroidery. I LOVE how they came out! I think it's too cute and so sentimental! I paid $35 including shipping for both hankies from Originals By Barbee by OriginalsByBarbee on Etsy
  7. I have fans from oriental trading en route to me now so i'm glad I got a heads up on the size issue! I've also been looking for any sort advice on how to wrap the handles so thanks ladies!!
  8. I've been looking for vases to use for our sand ceremony and came across a really pretty etched one at hobby lobby the other day. I can't find a picture on their website but it's decently sized and they have them with different letters etched on them. I'd get one with our last name initial on it. But I've been trying to find options as far as sealing it. This isn't something I have to do at the resort but could do when we get home. I was thinking about maybe pouring paraffin on top and making the top 1/4 or so a candle. But will the paraffin just run in between the sand? I guess I'm looking for suggestions on other ways to seal it or ideas on how to get a clean line between the sand and paraffin if I make it a candle. Thanks ladies!

I ordered mine from Candles and Such and they came with a personalized sticker with your background color of choice, image of choice and wording. They were $1.20 each. That's exactly what I did and it turned out awesome! Plus they don't have to pay the ebay fees so they probably like it as well.

The thing I don't know if that is enough or if thats too cheap. My FI and I love wine, and we think its a good detail. Let me know what you think. Thanks That's adorable!! Of all our guests, my parents are the only one's who don't drink. We decided on personalized luggage tags. I found them at Personalized Expressions Collection Luggage Tag Favors It's a pretty good price - they print a sticker for you to attach to the tags. They do have a minimum order of 48 and I only need about 32 so I have some for sale now. Haha. I'm going to mail them out with a welcome/thank you letter/booklet I made prior to leaving. Then at the ceremony we'll have raffia fans at each chair (sort of a favor I guess?). Attached to the fans i'm putting the ceremony program, guestbook page, and some postcards. I'll tie them with ribbon and attach a marker for the guestbook page. (it's a more detailed full page for them to fill out as something fun and unique - from Welcome to the Guestbook Store! Guestbooks for Every Occasion!) I didn't know when else to have them do the guestbook pages so I thought it'd give them something to do while they wait. After the ceremony we're having dinner but it's at the buffet so there's not much sit-around-and-wait time. Thanks for all the help and ideas ladies! You made me feel alot better about not doing full blown bags for everybody!
  13. Aww I'm really sorry to hear that! My grandmother passed away (also relatively unexpectedly) back in October so I can relate pretty well right now. I hope you get to feeling better yourself! Have a great weekend Bev!

But at least you have MANY girls here telling you its legit and you'll be fine just going through paypal!
  15. Ooohhh thanks for the heads up. I'm not personally ordering them but its good to know. Thanks!
  16. Hi hi! I'll take the postcards if you still have them! sending pm now.
  17. Yeah, now she's checking with the civil official to make sure he's ok pronouncing us "man and wife" if it's not legal. Arg! I don't really care about many of the traditional wording but since this is our only ceremony I really want this part! Oh well, i'm sure it'll be ok.

  19. I bought these as favors for our guests and the company has a 48 order minimum for them (because they're personalized or something). I don't need that many and so I have 15 of these for sale. I'm asking $20 including shipping. They're white luggage tags (with the info sliding in and out). On the back is a sticker with a turquoise background, palm tree beach scene and "Jamaica 2010" Info from the website: "Great as favors for destination weddings or any occasion where you want to pack your day with one-of-a-kind style, these luggage tag favors from Fashioncraft are a real treat. Each Personalized Expression Collection luggage tag measures 3 ¼” x 2 1/8” (5 ½” long with strap) and is made of hard white plastic with an attached white pvc strap and a slide-out compartment that has a lined area for name and address info. The tag’s outer center is fit for easy application of the personalized label of your choice. Each comes bulk packaged in a poly bag, along with self sticking label sheets for you to apply." * I already applied all the labels. Sorry the pictures are so crummy, I had to take them with my phone since both camera batteries are dead (figures). The info lines are Name, Address, Country, and Phone. Thanks for looking!

What I liked best about gianinarbridal was that I was able to put a small deposit down and then see the dress when it was done. At that time I had the option not to buy it or to ask for any changes to be made. Maybe the other places do this as well but I wasn't informed of it. It made me feel really comfortable that I wasn't paying the full amount and would see the product before it arrived at my door. I felt better knowing I could back out.
  21. Yeah and they also told him he couldn't leave the country for 3 months after we get the marriage license (regardless of the green card status or application). Anyway, I talked to Keisha and she said we could pay an officer of the civil register $100 to perform the vows without any necessary paperwork. Thank god! That's one thing that bothers me about Keisha (and has been a problem with other issues). If I tell her "our situation is this, this is what we want, can we do option A?" she explains how option A won't work but doesn't go on to give me options B, and C which might actually do the trick! Anyway, I'm still slightly worried that some other little technicality will come up but at least it seems like we'll be ok and paper free!

I just want to be able to get a legit wedding license and still be able to come into the country on the exact same visa. I guess I may have to search for an immigration lawer...arggghhhh That's annoying. Maybe the visa part doesn't matter. But my fiance was told by the immigration lawyer he called and the person who handles his visa for the company that after getting a marriage license you can't leave the states for 3 months (seems regardless of the green card part). You might not be able to legally get in married in another country...Just means you get married when you come back or do it 3+ months before!
  23. Thanks ladies.. It's IS very stressful when you don't understand the in's and out's of immigration AND why a resort can't offer something symbolic! I think i'm gonna have my fiance make some immigration calls while I call Jamaica today. I'm really hoping there was miscommunication and that we can get married here legally first, show the resort our license to do "vow renewal" and then apply for the green card when we get back. Because if this were the case no international couples could ever go on honeymoons right? And i'm pretty sure I know ones who did and then got green cards. To be honest, i'm REALLY thinking my fiance is wrong on this but like I said - he's so stubborn that I can't very well call him out on it, gotta work it gently. Haha.

Jamaica is, or what I thought would be, the only time we would actually exchange vows. THAT would be our anniversary, not the day we signed the papers. Anyway, it just still boggles my mind why they can't go "oh, your situation is different...at your request we just won't file the paper work." or "you're exempt from needing a previous marriage license". I don't see any legal ramifications for them Oh well. I'm calling in the morning and hopefully we can figure it out.
