  1. I've flown Skyservice many times to Jamaica and have not had any problems. The weight restrictions may be difficult going if you're carrying your gifts etc. but coming back it shouldn't be a problem. You're going to a hot place so most of the clothes and shoes you'll carry will be light.
  2. I haven't sent out my invites yet but I'm pretty worried about this. I'm debating between having the wedding in July or November. More of my friends would be able to come in July since they're teachers and can't get time off during the school year. However, some of these friends are used to travelling cheap- going to whatever 2.5 star hotel is on sale last minute with crappy food and amenities and they're fine. I would hate to book everything for July and have them flake out. November gives everyone else a little more time to save, our baby would be a little bigger and we can plan it around a date that means more to us personally. I don't plan on having a wedding party and would be happy if the wedding was just us but this would greatly upset our parents.
  3. I've been quoted $1681 incl. tax for July 2009 double occupancy. $1641 for triple. A reasonable price depends on your guests and the types of vacations they are used to booking for themselves. If there are people who want to come but can't afford it maybe you can suggest another cheaper hotel they can stay and but let them know they'll have to pay for a day pass to visit on the day of your wedding. You don't want to extend that to too many people though as I think 80% of the guests must stay at the RIU with you.
  4. I'm leaning towards ROR the week of July 18-25. I haven't booked anything yet..I hope there are some afternoon times available.
  5. Maybe you're thinking of the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton which has age restrictions. The other part of the resort does not.
  6. Great review! We're planning on taking our baby to the wedding as well. From your review and the pictures it seems that this was not problematic for you.
  7. This hotel is my first choice as well. I've seen the high prices on line but have decided to wait a few months to see if it will come down. I'd look at the prices for Jan/Feb 2009 and aim to get a price that is similar.
  8. Thanks for this information. This is our top choice at the moment. Our second is ROR but we're a little hesitant to go there as we've been to Ochi on a previous trip to JA. Keep us posted on your progress!
  9. I haven't seen a wedding here but stayed here a few years ago and still miss the chicken breast stuffed with ackee. The hotel was nice and the food was good. The only drawback was that the beach was small.
  10. Thank you for your review. I'm also planning a fall wedding and had originally picked 3 p.m. but I think now I'll change it to 11 to avoid the possible rain!
  11. I was looking over the rules in the 2008 document which says you cannot hire other photographers. For previous RIU brides, do they allow guests to take pictures as well? We'll probably hire the photographer if we choose here but my Father in Law and one of our weddings guests are professional photographers and we wanted them to take photos as well. Did any of the previous ROR brides have any issues with this?

  13. Hi everyone, I'm looking to plan a destination wedding for September 09 and deciding between Jamaica, Mayan Riviera or the Dominican Dominican Republic would probably be cheapest for our guests but the legal requirements look a little daunting..i.e. getting the documents translated. It seems like Mexico also requires a blood test? Jamaica looks the most straight forward so far...but will probably be the most expensive. Any advice from people planning weddings in these countries? Have your experiences been smooth? Do the wedding coordinators usually take care of everything.

Hi everyone, I'm Anna. I'm planning for a destination wedding to either Jamaica, Dominican or the Mayan Riviera for September 1, 2009. Right now I'm strongly leaning towards Jamaica. Hope to find lots of helpful info on this sight.
