ROR review: Jan 19-26, 2009, John-Paul & Karina
sarah.cullen replied to klopez's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
Hi Moy I emailed Chandlyn a few weeks ago to arrange our appointment & we scheduled it for the day after our arrival at 9am, when do you arrive? We'll be there on 31st March, probably get there early evening. We asked for a 2pm ceremony so there'll be plenty of time for photos etc before our reception. I see you have a large party going, unfortunately ours is just ourselves & our son but I've become very friendly with another girl here from the UK who is getting married the week after, Kitty Kat uk, you may have seen her on this forum. I hope we can get together provided we're not all too busy!!! Also have you arranged your flowers yet with Tai Flora, I have that done & also booked Michael in the photoshop. The only thing we have to worry about is getting the spending money sorted!!! Let me know if you need any info! Talk soon Sarah x -
Tax on ROR wedding package?
sarah.cullen replied to oscaboo's topic in Jamaica Accommodations & Site
Hi Oscaboo I would have thought the tax is included in the price of the wedding package, otherwise they should make it known in the brochure if tax is extra. I would email Chandlyn before you leave to ask how much the total will be. Hope this is helpful Sarah x -

Congrats & best wishes on your new married life Karina, you looked absolutely stunning & am glad everything you wanted worked out for you! Sarah x PS: Moke0506, I see you're getting married the day after us, hope all your plans are coming together. We have our appt booked with Chandlyn & reception dinner is done as well, if you need any info, feel free to ask. Sarah x x -
We haven't decided to do anything reg. favours as it'll just be ourselves & our son there, might change our minds nearer the time, if you have a big group going then maybe I would but if its small, I personally wouldn't bother. Sarah x

Hi Jill I asked Chandlyn a while ago could my fiance's sister & brother be witnesses, she replied it was no problem, unfortunately due to the economy downturn they are no longer coming. Email her & see what she says, I thought it would be ok unless they've changed their requirements recently. Good luck, I see you're getting married the 22nd Apr, we'll be married on the 3rd April but will be leaving the 14th Apr. Sarah x

Post dinner reception
sarah.cullen replied to kitty_kat_uk's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Hi Claire Thanks, don't think we'll want much footage, prob be less than an hour, don't want to see each other doing daft things when we start getting sozzled!! Am looking forward to it now. Didn't realise the Seagrape was that near the stage area, I see what you mean. Do you think the main area wd be ok to hang out, I think we're going to change after the meal, my dress might be getting a bit hot by that time anyways so I would rather change into a lighter dress then. Let me know what Chandlyn says Talk soon S x -
Post dinner reception
sarah.cullen replied to kitty_kat_uk's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Hi Claire, me again! I was just browsing the forum & came across a thread "ROR Seagrape Questions" if you put the thread in the search above, you can see what other brides have posted. Apparently its a problem for Fri/Sat nights as they have the beach party either of those nights, but wednesday should be ok. Its also $15p/h if you just want drinks & tables put up so that seems quite reasonable. Think we'll wait til we get out there about booking that up, we might not have it cos of the beach party. Let me know what Chandlyn says Talk soon hun S x -
Post dinner reception
sarah.cullen replied to kitty_kat_uk's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Hi Claire Have you thought about just having a few drinks at one of the bars afterwards, think the meal goes on for something like 2 hrs doesn't it? I also thought Seagrape was the poolside place, I might be wrong but it seems a bit pricey as other people have booked it & I think they charge something like $50 a head?? Did Chandlyn give you any indication of where you could do something afterwards, might be worth sending her another email to see of other venues that don't break the bank? We're just going to wait til we get out there, I'm hoping to just do the 1st dance thingy at the beach gazebo if they can lend us a CD player & we'll just do something like that & then hang out at one of the bars. We're not 2 bothered about being around other holidaymakers, at the end of the day we'll make the best of it. Another favour, would you know someone who could record extra footage on our camcorder?? Wouldn't be for long? Hey Kari, we're getting married on the 3rd April, when do you arrive, we'll prob meet up for a drink or 2 when you're out there. Good luck with your planning!! Sarah x -

Got info from another bride on here, she said the hotel gave them the upgrade to the jacuzzi suite FOC, she said it may have been a nicely worded email she sent a week before they went may have swung it, think its worth a try eh? -

sarah.cullen replied to jmhein's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
Hi JM If you don't mind passing on the benefit of your experience at the Riu: 1. Did you originally book a junior suite & they upgraded to the jacuzzi suite when you arrived? 2. If you have any tips for myself & any future brides to maybe say the right thing when we arrive?? I was going to bring my Riu Class reward card, heard it is useful? Thanks a million for any advice you can give, congrats again!! Sarah x -

ROR Wedding and Resort Review
sarah.cullen replied to JamaicaBrideToBe's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
Hi congrats on your wedding day, you looked so beautiful, am delighted you had a great time. I have a question, another bride on here stayed in a junior suite but apparently they had to pay to eat at the A la carte restaurants inc. Mammee bay, did you have any problems there? Congrats again Sarah x -

Additions to packages and total cost
sarah.cullen replied to KJT1985's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Hi KJT, We are getting married on the 3rd April this yr at the Riu Ocho Rios, we are coming from England for 2 weeks and the cost of the holiday for me, h2b & our son is £3600. I booked the wedding package directly with Riu, its the Royal package which includes several things, I'll post their link on at the bottom for you to look at. On top of the wedding package which is costing US$1115, we are also booking their onsite photographer who is the top man & he's costing $1000 for loads of pics + the dvd of the ceremony. I have also booked the bridal package at the spa in the resort, I have to pay $80 when I get there, but their total is something like $165. I already paid 50% in advance. Also I have a special bouquet in mind for myself, the florist they use quoted me $110 for that particular one. As for the ceremony extras, we are planning to be married on the beach gazebo but am not bothered about having floral arrangements or anything, we will prob use the free decoration. Hope this is enough info you're looking for, feel free to ask any more questions!! Wedding Packages by Destination. Honeymoon Holidays. Weddings by Riu -
I've booked the bridal package that includes hair, makeup, mani & pedi. I am planning on bringing my own makeup & have them do mine, I'm not that fantastic at doing eye makeup so will leave it in their capable hands! At the end of the day its worth it just to feel pampered on your special day....

Hi yes the same happened to us, our parents were right against us going to Jamaica in the first place, they even said "Why don't you get married in cyprus, so everybody can go" but we thought to ourselves its our day & we'll get married when we want. Then Johnny's brothers & sisters were all "Oh we're there" then pulled out due to the financial troubles. At the end of the day, we're the only ones who matter & I can't wait to marry my love & my best friend. Plus, we're not alone, our friends Kitty_katuk who we met by accident have kindly agreed to be our witnesses.... so at the end of the day we're going to have a fab wedding day!!!!! That's the right attitude to take isn't it??

Hello to all, I have read on several posts that the Riu class rewards actually go a long way in resort, particularly if you are looking for a room upgrade (which we secretly all want!!) The link to the main Riu website is below, on the homepage go to the top right hand corner & click on Riu class & you can apply for a provisional classic card. You never know, they might give VIP service upon arrival. Sarah x Riu Hotels & Resorts
