  1. Sarah ~ Thanks for taking the time to write the review and to share your pics. You did an awesome job with EVERY little detail of your wedding! You suggested some great tips regarding the wedding coordinator and I can only hope that my wedding turns out half as nice as yours.

I will post my review and pro pics soon but here is a non-pro pic of the ceremony Sarah Sarah, Thanks for posting the pic. It gives me a better idea of what to expect since I know there has been so much beach erosion at AyJ. I think we'll just keep it under the bent palm tree as planned. How many guests did you have? We're really looking forward to seeing your photos Everything looks so pretty from just the little bit I can see in your pic.
  4. Thanks for the nice comments. I'm so glad that somebody will use bits and pieces of this information. I'm not the creative type and it took me a lot of time to compose and compile this information. I'm sure it will save some time.
  5. Hi Everyone ~ I wanted to share my Pre-Mexico Welcome Booklet with everyone in hopes of saving another bride some time. I gathered my information from other posts on this site (of course!) and from various websites. I hope somebody finds it beneficial--I know that my guests did! Happy reading! Pre-Mexico Welcome Letter for BDW.doc
  6. Gr8ful ~ Looks like you really accomplished a lot on your trip. I think you're going to be extremely happy with your choices. I have never ate at Hechizo, but plan to on our honeymoon in a few weeks. We've only heard great comments about the place. Also, I wanted to suggest that you check out the tulum (dot) info. website. You'll finds tons of information from locals and people who have visited Tulum. Happy planning!
  7. WOW! This is THE most complete list I've seen. I not only plan on using it for my wedding, but also when I travel for business too. Thanks for sharing.
  8. I did a little bit of research on travel insurance using the Consumer Reports website. I read the article and visited the website they recommended called Travel Insurance - InsureMyTrip.com. As you know, travel insurance is available at various prices and may cover cancellation, lost baggage, medical and legal expenses etc. After you decide what options you want insurance for, it can be purchased directly on the website. I included a link to this website in my Pre-Mexico welcome letter.

I'm sure this will be a great source of information! WELCOME TO THE FORUM LISA!!! Congrats on booking your wedding at AyJ. I'm sure you're going to find this website very resourceful. I use it almost everyday and have found so many great ideas, websites and vendors. Best of luck to you in your planning.

Jackie, Claudia and Franklin exceeded our expectations. They took care of everything from the food to the decor. I will post a review and pics when I have them. If I had to do anything differently it would actually be to not hire outside vendors. I used Ajua music because they were so much cheaper but the guitarist arrived late and played the wrong songs and the mariachi was great but arrived only seconds before they were supposed to play. In retrospect, I think it would be worth the extra money to use the company that works with the beach club so that Jackie would arrange and take care of everything. Also I would have asked someone (the Bestman or the DJ) to keep the group on schedule. While we were taking pictures everyone was just watching us on the beach and no one told them to move to the cocktail area and then to sit for dinner. It would be best, in retrospect, to have someone else in charge of that. All in all everything was pretty much perfect and all our guests had an amazing time. The lobster was AMAZING. We did the dinner and dancing under the palaypa. They haven't opened for dinner yet so it was private after all without paying the extra fee. It was too windy to eat under the grape trees as well so I am glad that worked out so well. We did the open tab instead of open bar. I think we spent a few hundred more because we were doing shots so the open bar is a good deal if your group drinks as much as ours but it will probably be similar either way. The cake was really tasty and pretty from Turtle Bay. Let me know if you have any more questions and I will post pics soon. CONGRATS SARAH!!! I hope your enjoying married life so far. I was so glad to hear that everything went so well. I am getting married in a few weeks and am wondering where you had the ceremony since there has been so much beach erosion at AyJ. We are thinking of getting married under the "crooked" palm tree up 60 yards up the beach from the "bent" palm tree. Thanks for the suggestion of having the DJ keep everything on schedule. I thought that's what the wedding coordinator was supposed to do! Looking forward to seeing your photos.
  11. I'm sure your guests will appreciate all of the time and useful information that you put into these booklets. GREAT JOB!
  12. Thanks so much for sharing. This template is a life saver! With only 28 days to go, I'm starting to go into "bridezilla" mode as the Meet the Guest Book is one of the projects I still need to complete. The only problem is we have 70 guests coming, so I have lots of work to do!

Another great night club is Santanera - that place rocks! www.santanera.com We are getting married in Tulum and then going to Retro after the reception. Retro plays songs from the 70's, 80's & 90's if that's what you're looking for. It's located on 4th Street between 5th Avenue and the beach. If you are walking down 5th Avenue heading south, you will turn left on 4th toward the beach. You'll see Retro on the right.
  14. I had the same thing happen to me and my FI last year in Cancun when we went to meet our wedding coordinator for the first time. Luckily we knew what to do and had a small amount of money in our pocket. It still was very scary getting pulled over by the Federales! The next time we rented a car, the rental agency gave us a laminated sheet to show the cops and also told us to tell the cop you want to speak to his supervisor. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing either! I'd rather just part with my $20 bucks and leave it at that. The last place I would want to end up is in a Mexican jail cell!
  15. Thanks too Carly. I couldn't find out who the "Mods" were so I just started the thread. Also, I'm glad I know that the profile function was disabled. I thought it was me being stupid again!
  16. Thanks Bianca. I guess I didn't read the FAQ & BDW How-to's very well. I appreciate your help.
  17. Hi ~ Can anybody please tell me why I'm receiving this message whenever I try to view my own profile? I read the posts in this forum almost everyday; however I'm not earning any points for doing so. Now I need to download a template and I am not permitted to do so. Here's the message I received: "mrsscottyb, you do not have permission to access this page. And do you have their e-mail addy. Thanks so much. Hi D ~ The best way to reach Jackie, the wedding coordinator @ AyJ, is through her e-mail "[email protected]". It will take Jackie about a week to respond. I am getting married there on 05/15/09, and when I e-mail her, it usually takes her that long to respond. To get your research started, ask her to send you a menu and copy of the contract so you can review them. This website and thread is a great source of information, so use it as much as you can. I hope you hear back from Jackie soon.

They have other great things that I am thinking of getting and would be interested in sharing such as to do this with: and these Hi Sarah ~ I hope you're planning in going well. I haven't been on the forum much lately and just noticed your post for the lanterns and sand boxes. If I read correctly, you are also using Vanessa Jaimes for your florist. From what Jackie told me a few weeks ago during our 2nd site visit, Vanessa has sandboxes for the escort cards and also laterns for the grape trees. I'm not sure what she charges, but I'm going to ask since I too plan on using them. If I find out anything soon, I'll let you know.

All of our guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been to! Thanks to Jackie, Claudia, Frankin and all the other A y J staff - the service was impeccable. The setting for the ceremony was unbelievable and our dinner was held under the grape tree and was simply magical. The food and cake were delicious. We had the most amazing band play at our reception that I would HIGHLY recommend - they are called LaFeMi (myspace.com/lafemimusica) and we booked them (as well as some drummers for rehearsal dinner through Elizabeth from Cabana Copal ([email protected]). Also, I wanted to let everyone know that we had an amazing (and very reasonably priced) rehearsal dinner the night before at Cabana Copal/ Bar Tun Tun. We booked everything through Maria Lidia ([email protected]) and we could not have been happier with the presentation, food and ambience. I have tried to attach some photos here so I hope it works. If anyone has any other questions, I would be happy to answer them. Hi Kristen ~ CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am so glad to hear that everything went so well for you on your special day. I was not able to view your photos. Can you try posting again when you have some free time? I was recently (02/21/09) at AyJ for my taste testing and loved the food. We are also having our ceremony under the grape trees and was wondering if there is enough lighting for dancing or did your DJ supply that? Also, when my FI and I were at AyJ a few weeks ago, the ceremony area under the palm tree was pretty much washed away from erosion. Did you have your ceremony in front of the palm tree? Who was your officiant and were you happy with the ceremony? Also, who did your hair and makeup? Sorry for all of the questions. Amber

Imprinted Promotional Products, Logo Corporate Apparel,Custom Promotional Items, Gifts I see that you're getting married at Ana Y Jose Beach Club...I looked into getting married there but I didn't find enough good reviews of it so I was hesitant to book it. I am excited to read your review after your wedding. Hi Kits ~ Thanks for the link to the coolers. The price seems very reasonable and I'm glad that you only have to order 50 instead of 100. If you decide to go with this vendor, please post a pic of your coolers when you get them. I'm sure they're going to look really great. One of the other brides on here, posted pics of her OOT coolers, and they're the ones I really want to order, but she is getting married on 02/21/09, so she hasn't responded to my request for vendor info. and I doubt I'll hear back from her anytime soon. We feel very confident with selecting Ana y Jose's for our wedding. All-inclusive resorts is definitely not our thing and we loved the intimate location that AyJ offers. We are familiar with Tulum and made a site visit last July. For Valentine's Day, my FI surprised me with a trip to Playa & Tulum, so we are leaving this Friday for a week. We are going to have our taste testing and meet with the WC again, plus meet again with our DJ, florist and photographer. I have some odds and ends to finalize too, so it will be a great relief to get this all done before May. Thanks!

I've looked at so many sites online, but most of them require a large order to receive the discount pricing. I only need 40 of them so I'm having a tough time finding quality coolers. Can you post or PM me the links to the vendor you have selected. Thanks!
  23. I love the coolers and what you put into them to make them unique. Can you please post your sales reps. number at your convenience. Also, did you have to order a minimum of 50 bags and did your sales rep. take care of the printing too? Thanks!

I understand why we pay an outside vendor fee that is not on their vendor list - its just part of the business. Fine, i get that. What I don't understand is that by finding these outside vendors ourselves we take the risk of them not performing up the standards of the people on her vendor list...but that is OUR RISK...so why do we have to PAY THEM these extra fees for something that can't be blamed on them but only us? AM I making any sense? So based on all the fees, if you were to hire an outside DJ to play for 4 hours lets say, in just AyJ fees alone you will be paying $200 (outside vendor fee) + $600 (@$150/hour) = $800 - and this doesn't even include the fees the DJ is charging. I think this is highly unreasonable and a total scam. If I am incorrect a/b all this, please somebody let me know. I have emailed Jackie and asked, but am still waiting a return reply. Hi hsustark ~ It's probably best that you hear directly from Jackie since her answers quotes have been inconsistent. For the DJ, I booked DJ Bob. I am paying him $450 for 4 hours. Jackie quoted me an outside vendor fee of $100 per hour (= $400); which is still $100 cheaper than her DJ. However, some of the other brides on the forum I think she quoted a $200 outside vendor fee for the DJ, but I'm not sure. It's best to let her respond in writing. Also, I'm not sure when you're getting married, but you might want to ask Jackie for her list of vendors so you could possibly save money on the outside vendor fees.
