His prices are very reasonable. He's easy to work with and is from the States, so there's no language barrier. He also responds quickly to e-mails. A word of caution if you chose to have your reception at Ana y Jose....there is an outside vendor fee if you don't use their vendors. I was told it's $100 per hour for the outside DJ, but other brides on here have been told $200 per hour! It's best to check with Jackie @ Ana y Jose for this. Hope this helps.
  2. Welcome Jack & Coke ~ Congrats on your wedding! I must first say that I love your avatar name...how cute. Don't stress too much feeling like you're not organized. I know that when I first found this forum and starting reading all of the threads/posts, I felt so overwhelmed and behind schedule. Everything will fall into place somehow so don't sweat it.
  3. Hi Sandy ~ I am getting married at AyJ on 05/15/09. I also wanted to use the shells and hurricane lamps that Jackie has posted on her website. I wasn't sure when you were getting married, but if it's close to my date, then maybe we could split the cost somehow. My florist is Vanessa Jaimes. I was going to ask her for pricing on the centerpieces we like. Let me know if you wedding date is close to mine and if you're interested in somehow sharing the costs.

I'm struggling with the DJ. Has anyone confirmed this yet? We only have 40 guests, Jackie suggested to just use an ipod this scares me. Also, the ceremony. I just found out if you don't use someone from Mexico to officiate you need a work permit. Jackie isn't clear on how you get this, has anyone done this yet? thanks!! Sandy PS- I'm having my R dinner at Zamas, they have been extremely helpful and much cheaper then Ana Y Jose- let me know if your interested and I can give up details Hi Sandy ~ I am going with DJ Bob. You can search him on this forum and see the favorable comments that everyone has posted. He is also the DJ for Turtle Bay Bakery in Akumal. If you go to that website, you can see his website. DJ Bob is very quick in responding to any questions you may have. I was going to do just go with the Ipod set up, but then I thought, who's going to introduce the bride/groom and emcee the reception. His prices are very reasonable too. Also, check with Jackie as to who AyJ uses for a DJ. If you bring in an outside DJ, the outside vendor fee is $100 per HOUR!

She'll probably start wondering why all of us are asking the same questions at the same time... I'm sure Jackie is familiar with this website and knows exactly why she's getting so many questions about the outside vendor fees. I haven't heard back from her yet as to why $100 per HOUR. I'll let you know when she responds.
  6. Sarah - Just tried to PM you, but received the following error: "San Fran Sarah has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space." I'll try sending another PM to you in a few days.

She's kind of expensive (250) but she will come down to Ana y Jose and do hair for you. If you go to her in Playa del carmen I think its only like 100. Let her know that I sent you. Maybe she will give us a group discount if a few of us book her. Sarah Sarah ~ Thanks for her info, but I already found it on one of your previous posts and e-mailed her earlier today. If I choose her, I will definately ask about a group discount or see if she will at least offer you a discount for referring me. Also, what kind of food did you select for dinner at AyJ? Did you have a chance to do a tasting? If so, how was it? We chose the Chicken Pibilia and the Fresh Fish. As far as the open bar being so expensive, I'm telling ALL my guests to drink up!!! PM with my e-mail address is on it's way. Thanks!

I haven't heard anything about the $200 for outside vendors. Please tell me that's a flat rate, and not for each vendor! Does that rate only apply to vendors she doesn't recommend? Has anyone looked into DJ's? Hi Charps ~ From what Jackie e-mailed me today, the vendor fees are individual if you are not using their DJ, Florist, Bakery, or Photographer. She told me that the DJ vendor fee was $100 per hour! It's best to check with her so there is no miscommunication. Sarah ~ Can you give me any contact or website information for Doranna Debortoli? I'd like to get some prices from her. Does she do makeup as well? Thanks!
  9. Hey Everyone ~ Here's a list of my vendors so far for our May 15th wedding: Bakery : Turtle Bakery, Akamul(?) DJ : DJ Bob Florist : Vanessa James Photographer: Alberto from Claudia Rodriquez Hair/Makeup : Still Working on this one - Transport. : Still working on this too Regarding hair/makeup, there's a great thread under the RM Vendors section that was very helpful. Unfortunately, this "forum" thing is new to me and I don't know how to link the thread in this post. Sorry! Anybody else wanna list their vendors too?
  10. Stephdel ~ I was quoted a $100 outside vendor fee. I have it in one of Jackie's e-mails; however, I didn't know that it was for everthing (florist, music, bakery etc.). I'm going to take a closer look at my info. when I get home. Debbie421 ~ Our guests are staying at either La Tortuga hotel (www.hotellatortuga.com) or the Xaman Ha condos. You can Google Xaman Ha and get some links if interested. The condos are individually owned and therefore managed by several different rental agencies. I have stayed at both La Tortuga and Xaman Ha in the past. Another condo option that we looked at was Natzi Ha Condos. We took a tour of them and they are nicer insided than Xaman Ha, but they are at the north end of Playa and not as close to 5th Avenue as Xaman Ha. Hope this helps.
  11. Hi Kristen ~ No, I haven't heard anything about an ATM @ AyJ, but I'm sure Jackie could tell ya what the status is. BTW, when are you getting married? Hi Steph ~ Thanks for the info. on the transportation company. I did get a quote from them and it's almost double the cost of the other vendor I found. It seems as though whenever I get a quote from a vendor recommended by Jackie, it always comes in much higher. I'm not sure if it's because her vendors are located in Cancun and it costs more time & money for them to travel to Tulum. Luckily, I have been finding all of my vendors through this website and contacting them on my own for pricing. It seems to be working out very well so far. As far as Tulum hotels with A/C....I stayed in Tulum twice last year. Once at Xamach Dos in May when I got engaged and the other time at Cabanas La Luna in July. Neither of those locations had A/C. On my visit in May, I definately didn't need A/C. Most nights I wore a long sleeve t-shirt because it was so windy. In July, the room did get stuffy and we were forced to sleep with the cabana door wide open to get some breeze. Try checking out Tulum, Mexico forum. It's free to join to ask questions or you can just lurk. Hope this helps.
  12. Hey Sarah, I already have a question for you or other AyJ brides. Are you using a transportation company to pick up and drop off your guests on your wedding day? If so, could you please give me the name and contact info. of the company you chose. All of our 65 guests are staying in Playa, and we are providing transportation for them to and from AyJ via private bus. I have received two quotes so far, and was looking for a third company to contact. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks much.
  13. Thanks again Sarah for starting this thread. I'm really excited to share info. with other brides getting married at Ana y Jose.
  14. Hi ~ I was wondering if anybody on the forum has heard of or used vponsale.com for their wedding invitations. The website shows some very unique hand drawn invitations, but I'm a bit skeptical as the grammar and spelling on the website is not the greatest. The invitations seem to be priced very reasonable.
  15. Hola Chicas, My name is Amber and I'm new to this forum thing. Just wanted to say a quick hello and thank everyone for posting such helpful information. I'm looking forward to getting some great ideas and hopefully sharing some too.
