  1. Welcome! I bet you are so excited for your upcoming wedding!
  2. So I absolutely love my FI -- he never ceases to make me laugh. Today we were talking about spicy food... and we realized we were very different. He says he eats to prove his manliness... whereas I eat to fill my hunger (or console me when the Lost season ends...). I called him out on it saying that I hoped that when we were married I would be much more entertainment for him than the peppers he puts in his food... To which he quickly replied: "...i think a real man i one who can successfully lead a wife and family or lead other people not the man who can stand the highest scoville rating." What does your FI say that makes you laugh?
  3. I can understand his excitement! I'm guessing he worked really hard to get you a BEAUTIFUL bridal set... and he he waited for the right moment to propose... ect. I don't think it will lose meaning if you wear it now... but like everyone has said, people might think you are married already (at least, people who don't know you). In reality, I don't think its going to cause a huge uproar with people -- I've never just met someone and said "you have a wedding band on - are you REALLLY married?" If it makes you personally uncomfortable ... I think that is the only thing that should matter... and you shouldn't wear it.
  4. SERIOUSLY? Oh man... I need to call my TA... The lowest I've been quoted for Feb 2010 (from the resort, not the TA) was 238 per person a night... so 3 nights would be 714... and then airfare to cancun is like 450 to 500. *Sigh* If I wasn't having such a long engagement already, I would totally go for a different month...
  5. Hmm... Where would one buy a pole in Cancun? That's where I get stuck...
  6. Woa... is it actually doable to do a 3-4 night stay, AI, including airfare for 8-9 hundred pp? Where?
  7. Hey Ladies, I was browsing on Martha Stewart today... and found this beautiful idea for paper lanterns. I've always wanted paper lanterns hung at my reception... but was worried it would get way pricey to have it done... or my friends and family would hate me forever for making them do it. Light Columns and more creative crafts projects, templates, tips, clip-art, patterns, and ideas on marthastewart.com I mean seriously... that looks super easy. In terms of transporting... I guess you wouldnt have to use a solid 6' pole... you could get something that retracts... and leave the paper lanterns flat until you get there. Must figure out how to incorporate this...
  8. I love this forum. But the longer I am here... the more ideas I get. In fact, I've already bought 2 sets of decorations that I am currently no longer going to use. Ooops. I really am jazzed about my THIRD redesign... but... I could get bored with it in a few weeks... So I realized I have two choices (probably a false dichotomy, but who cares?) 1. Have a mismashed wedding... with EVERYTHING I like or at least moderately like. Could end up looking like Walmart on the day after Thanksgiving ... but who cares? I'd have it all... OR.... 2. I need to actually put my money where my mouth is an actually get my wedding planner cert and start a wedding planning business. Apparently though, the average wedding planner in Seattle makes about 40k per year which is hardly enough to live on... **Sigh** So many choices. Ladies, beware. BDW stimulates creativity.
  9. Uh... I am a Cypress and my FI is a Pine... That doesnt exactly sound like a match made... well... yeah. Although... a lot of the personality traits... are pretty accurate
  10. I think those are really nice. And since you got it on a coupon... all the better.
  11. OH WOW!! SHARLA! You looked SOOOO PRETTY!! I can't wait to hear how it turned out.

  13. Night Club 2 Step (NC2S) is one of my favorites! In fact... YouTube - AR Sam - NC2S - Spring 2008 Showcase My FI and I performed a NC2S to God Blessed the Broken Road one week after our engagement. NC2S is such a versatile dance -- you can do a lot with it just in general dancing. I'm so glad you are learning a great dance that will help you after you perform your first dance.
  14. Thanks for all the help everyone... I'm going to go visit the fabric store and see what I can come up with in terms of mixing and mashing. I'm thinking I want to either do round tables with white linens and a something colored overlay... Or rectangle tables with white linens and a table runner in a dark color. Maybe a chocolate brown?

  16. OH NO!!! It is certainly not your fault... but man, that sucks!
  17. Hmm... well... the magazine says that the bouquet costs 300 dollars... so maybe.... that's not too far off...
  18. Hey Ladies, I found this bouquet in a magazine... and I think it is absolutely stunning. It was made from the petals of 3 dozen roses... then they put them together to form one large rose. ... I wonder if this would be possible for natural touch flowers but I'm scared to even ask... Dramatic - Romantic Rose Bouquets - In Style Weddings
  19. Oh you looked so pretty!!! I think it is great you got the whole bridal party in the pool
  20. The latest I heard on the vendor policy was that they have to be guests at the hotel and not liscensed to do business in Mexico. Anyone heard different?
  21. Hey Girls, So I have, since I started courting my FI, said that my wedding colors were going to be bold fuschia and orange. I love those colors... I've gone back and forth between buttercup and lime and sage as accent colors... but never have stopped with the pink and orange motif. I had it all planned out beautifully for my Seattle wedding... but when we decided to go DW instead, our whole theme and everything went out the window and I started over... save the colors pink and orange. So I've been struggling with what we were going to "theme" our wedding down in Cancun ... since I didn't want seashells, starfish, sand dollars, or anything nautical (its too Seattle for my taste). I tossed around the idea of tropical fruit -- and started trying to find a way to use lime slices. Everything I came up with screamed fun and cutesy instead of bold, beautiful, elegant. ...fast forward... I was joking around with someone about putting water fountains on each of the tables... and they said "that would be really cool." I posted a thread about it here: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t24613 Problem is... I actually REALLY LIKE the fountain idea now... and even if we don't do the fountains, I think we'll do a clay jar theme/motif. I don't want to lose my pink and orange... but am not sure how to make all the colors work together. Any ideas? I've been looking all morning for examples of pink and orange and rust... or pink and orange and terra cotta... I'm not finding anything that screams "this color pallette will actually work."
  22. I think I could echo almost everyone else's thoughts -- this really needs to be handled by your mom. I think, if I'm not mistaken, traditionally, the parents of the bride handle receiving RSVPs anyway... so really, this comes down to your mom needing to clean up the mess. If she is unwilling to do that, I recomend hiring an escort for Anne... kinda like in that movie where she hires the date for her sister's wedding. Yeah... just pay the escort REALLY well to keep Anne out of your hair.... and have him "forget" and schedule a LONG sunset boat cruise during the wedding and reception. ...have your mom pay for it.
