  1. Oops sorry I hit enter too soon...lol. So ya we booked trvel through an agent and wedding through the online wedding website for the Riu. Once we had a confirmed date then we went to the travel agent but we had quite a bit of time until the wedding date. You pretty much have to go through all the steps on the website to see date availability - if it's not available it won't let you select the date or time. Our photographer was Mango Productions which was part of the package although we just kept with the standard package offering as we had a friend coming that does photography as a hobby so she took most other pics. Mango did do a fantastic job on the pics they did take - I would totally upgrade the pictures if that's something that's important to you. We also took the standard supper package that's included and it was great. We were seperate from the general population anyhow even though it's says it's semi private. We had it at the Steeakhouse and they had it all set up downstairs so there was no one around other than our party so that was great. Let me tell you the food was FANTASTIC there too....we were so impressed with it. Anyhow if you have any questions - just let me know. I know how hard it is when you can't find the specific info you are looking for.
  2. We booked our travel through an agent but booked the wedding itself through the website.
  3. Hello Jen - I was just married at the Riu in November. I personally think everything went awesome. One thing that did have me stressed was the minimal communication from Daniela but I found out in the end that there is a reason and that's because she has her crap together. We were married on the beach at 4:00pm - it was absolutely beautiful. I had no issues whatsoever with the Riu - they even moved my hubby's parents because they were older and having a hard time with the walking distance so they moved them right by the main restuarant. I guess that might be a negative depending on the age range of your group - the size of the resort is insane. One thing that steered me away from Dreams was that the distance was further than the Riu Palace to downtown which was a good thing because I found there was always a group of people headed to town. We had 52 people attend the wedding so there was always people on the move.
  4. I love love love Canon cameras. I have had Canon for my last 3 cameras. They are super easy to use and very user friendly and honestly my last camera which was 8.1 megapixels took far better images than my parents Sony 10.2 megapixels. Right now I have the SD950 IS which is 12.1 megapixels.... Love Canons!
  5. Our guests paid $1987 for the Riu Palace in Cabo mid November out of Edmonton so I think you are in the ball park there.
  6. You actually won't be able to bring them over the border. While we were standing in customs they brought in a agriculture dog that is kind of like a drug dog and just smells your bags etc. They actually made a lady open her bag and found fruit which obviously she had to throw out. I wouldn't want to take the risk.
  7. Our ceremony was 20 minutes tops and we went down the aisle and then made a receiving line for everyone to come through, had a champagne toast and then took the group pictures.
  8. For those of you who are pregnant or have had children already...how long of trying did it take before you got pregnant? I have been on the pill for many, many years and will go off in March - right after our Vegas trip....haha. I am sooooo excited to start trying and hubby seems to be pretty excited too now that we have talked about it and made an agreement about when to start....I wanted to start in January after honeymoon and he wanted to start after summer so that I could have one more "beer drinking" summer...lol. So we met in the middle after we planned our Vegas trip.
  9. Oh that is horrible...sometimes you have to wonder. Our vehicles were broken into - get this - while we were in Mexico on our wedding week!! Thankfully it was a new home and our builder was in the neighbourhood and found it otherwise we would not have known until we got home.... Everyone who we could have called to help us out were all in Mexico with us...it was a crap show but luckily Hubby's work people took care of getting them to the glass shop at the very least. My thoughts are with you and know that they can't take away happiness or love.
  10. Hi Tracy - they don't have a website as far as I know or that I could find when I was looking. One thing I will mention and that they mentioned when I sent mine in is that the consolate doesn't take docuements at month end so depending on when you send in - that may delay it a couple of days but nothing major.
  11. CDNgroom - it was that easy. We literally packaged it all up and sent it to this guy - he has done all my travel agents previous weddings so he knew exactly what to do. We received it all back via courier about 2-3 weeks later and scanned it all and emailed to the wedding coordinator. Also as far as apostille thing - my understanding from my WC and from the translator was that a notorization was the Canadian equivalent for that requirement.
  12. Yes I took the color swatch of the bridesmaid dresses and found some ribbon at the craft store and then my mom basted it together with the satin tie that the dress came with. It turned out really great!
  13. Hi All, I'm going to add my 2 bits to this.... We went to a registry office here in Alberta and ordered our long birth certificates and then our travel agent actually had someone that she uses for the whole process so we got the address and contact name from here and couriered it. It was Giovanni Translations in Calgary and we sent to them - our passports, a money order (I think it was $250) and our long birth certificates. He took care of everything else from that point on...very easy process using someone like that.
  14. Hi All, I ordered chocolate bars from this place as favours for our wedding celebration back on home turf and they turned out so GREAT!! They were all perfectly done and the delivery time was super fast. Just in case you are looking for ideas for favours. We ordered the regular size chocolate bars which were just Hershey's bars re-wrapped in foil and labels. Great thing was we are going to use the leftovers for fondue for Christmas....lol. Personalized Candy Bar Wrappers Canada and Gourmet Belgian Chocolate
  15. Hi All, Sorry I'm lacking in writing any sort of review/ In my eyes everything was perfect.... Here is the link to the pictures...there are far too many to look through. Wedding Day - Kev and Tanya - These are the Riu Photographer and Wedding Day - Chantal's Pics - These were a close personal friends pics that we asked to take pictures for us. Picasa Web Albums - Tanya As far as a review - I guess I didn't find too much wrong because it was just perfect in the sense of it actually happening. I find it amazing how things went off without a hitch with that minimal of communication with Daniela but it did!
  16. My mom and bridesmaids walked down to Rascal Flatts - Bless This Broken Road (totally awesome lyrics about blessing the road that lead me straight to you) and then my father and I walked in to Because you Loved Me - Celine Dion and then my new hubby and I walked out to the new Jason Mraz song "I'm Yours" which was really great because it kind of has a tropical type beat to the music.
  17. We had vanilla with strawberry filling with buttercream icing. The cake was delicious but we only had the 2 bites we fed to each other...haha. After the awesome meal we had at the steakhouse which offered dessert with it as well - everyone was full. FYI - the meal was fantastic at the steakhouse! They also had little menu cards made up with our names on them and what the choice was for supper - we had chosen chicken or steak and they were both awesome!
  18. Hi all - I wanted to remember my grandparents that had passed away in years gone by and in my heart I wanted to do something so that they could 'find me' on my special day. I had my bouquet made up all in one color with the exception of 3 yellow roses which were each in memory of one of my grandparents. I didn't tell everyone except the people that I knew it would mean alot too....it was a nice subtle way of remembering them on that day in my life.
  19. This definately isn't the same situation but I wanted to remember my grandparents that had passed away in some special way so I had my bouquet made up with 3 special flowers - one for each of them. My whole bouquet was blue and then there were 3 yellow roses. Maybe you could do something like that in your bouquet. I didn't tell very many people about it because it was something that not everyone needed to know but we knew in our hearts that they were there with us.
  20. We got married there just a couple of weeks ago! Loved loved it.... I would book it now - it's one less thing on the long list of things to do and because you don't need to put a deposit or anything down - you're not losing anything if you do change your mind. Feel free to PM me anytime if you have questions. We were married on the beach at 4:00pm.
  21. We are going to Disneyland for 4 days then into Temecula for some wine tasting and staying at a Casino / Spa Resort and then we are off to Torrey Pines in San Diego for the Buick Inviational PGA golf tournament....going to be AWESOME!!!
  22. We invited approx. 80 people and had 50 attend. We weren't expecting anything more than about 30 initially but everyone just made vacations out of it so it turned out great!
  23. So I didn't want to offend anyone if they didn't have another 1/2 coming with them so I made a little sign that says: Thanks for sharing our joy and happiness with us! We want to share our memories with everyone, please take one per guest party. Not that catchy but not to blunt...??
  24. We ordered the flowers for my hair as well as my bridesmaid hair with our bouquets. They turned out absolutely gorgeous!! They were huge blue orchids.
  25. That's crazy. We live in Lloydminster and thought it was lightning at first and then there was a big boom.....really weird!!!
