That totally sucks that you will be missing some of your family and flower girls, but yes the definite upside is that it's still happening for you! Plus the extra two weeks will give you time to do other things like you said Let's all hope this swine crap dies down quickly, we brides shouldn't have to deal with anymore additional stress than usual!!!

Yes def. consider they are trying not to lose business as tourism is of course the area's main source of income, so they are trying to keep people from bailing on vacays. But let's all hope the Roo remains unaffected. A pina sounds good! But geez after all this unnecessary stress, I think I'd need something stronger, a couple of shots perhaps!!!! Oh and another thing I've been keeping an eye on are the two maps that track possible and confirmed cases worldwide. ***HUGS*** I wish I could say or do something to make it better, but I know you are devastated right now. Try not to see this as a cancelation, but rather a postponement. You can still have that dream wedding

I'm hoping their stance stays as such, it's just so confusing though since there are some people who traveled to Cun and have gotten the swine flu bug, but like someone else said earlier, it could have been in the airport or plane....we'll have to wait and see! Hoping for the best*

Ok ladies, hoping this might help some of you. Perhaps a good thing to send out to guests or post on your wedding websites. It's encouraging and was official press released issued by the Dept. of Tourism from the Quintana Roo -- let's hope there will be more good news to come: Here's the direct link to, they also post it in Spanish: :: Secretara de Turismo del Estado de Quintana Roo SEDETUR PUBLIC RELEASE - QUINTANA ROO KEEPS FREE FROM SWINE FLU 2009-04-27.Turismo Cancún, Quintana Roo. Cancún, Quintana Roo, April 27, 2009 QUINTANA ROO STATE SECRETARY OF TOURISM PUBLIC RELEASE “QUINTANA ROO KEEPS FREE FROM SWINE FLU” Quintana Roo State Secretary of Tourism informs that the state is free from Swine Flu disease up to now, and that not a single case of the disease, or related cases have been reported at the main tourism destinations. The detection and prevention plan implemented by Mexico´s Ministry of Health continues, by means of check points placed at airports, cruise and bus terminals, as well as permanent monitoring in the more than 77,000 hotel rooms operating in Quintana Roo. The government agency also informs that tourism related activities develop normally in Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Riviera Maya, Cozumel and Grand Costa Maya. All destinations remain attentive to the Health Authority´s directions. Quintana Roo State Government is supportive of other Mexican states where the Swine Flu outbreak has taken place, and will be respectful of precaution measures and recommendations implemented in foreign countries in regard to international travel. For the State Government the highest priority now is the preservation of health among all the population, including citizens and visitors.

It will now just be my parents, tylers parents, and us. Oh well, we are all the important people *sigh* I'm so sorry Desiree This honestly has got to be the worst week for so many of us Mexico brides. I can't believe this crap is happening. It's like shouldn't we be worrying about so many other things at this point? Yanno like all the stuff we haven't finished yet, making sure we have everything together before our big trips...I HATE this!!! What I would do right now to just be dealing with the normal "before the wedding" stresses. I think I'd even rather deal with a dress that doesn't fit, or a dress that hasn't arrived on time!!!

Good luck gals, you all have always been such a great help to all us brides-to-be!

I can't concentrate and now I'm spontaneously bursting into tears. Sigh... this isn't the way I though I'd feel a week before my wedding. The Thomson Holidays travel agency is canceling flights/trips to Mexico at least for today only, and I read that other travel agencies will be following suit. Future dates will be determined. Here's a link to the agency's press release regarding this decision: Thomson Holidays - Travel Information and News Did your BM book through this agency? If not, I think she'll be ok. I'm so sorry hon, I think taking a day off is a good idea. This is such a tough time for all us Mexico brides Unfortunately, I think the news and numbers will all get worse before the situation gets better, only because now all countries are on high alert and will be implementing testing. The good side is that there are no fatalities outside of Mexico City thus far. They say the next 7 days are critical to really assessing the situation ~ I am hoping and praying we will see a light at the end of that tunnel.

Hi Gail, I saw you had already posted in the other two RM/Cancun makeup/hair threads. Did you try contacting all those listed that were suggested? There were quite a few -- if you email them they should be able to send you some sample pictures or perhaps even lead you to some brides for recommendations. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t32655 http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t30709 For hair I know Dorrana has had great praise from past brides, including the most recent ~ BDW member San Fran Sarah (her hair looked amazing in her pics). Dorrana also has a girl who does high-end makeup, you might wanna email her about it. All Dorrana's info along with info for other hair/makeup stylist are in those above threads. Hope this helps!

90% of my guests have cancelled

Please know we are all here for you if you need to vent or cry. And of course if there's anything that we can do to help, PLEASE feel free to ask. *hugs* -

Hey gals, ok in a brief lull of calm I wrote an email to my guests. Parts came from Yamille's helpful email - thank you girl . Here's what I sent to my guests -- feel free to use if it helps. I'm hoping all us Mexico brides will pull through this and our weddings will go on as planned ~ I'm so thankful to have all of you to talk, vent, cry, etc. about this Greetings Friends and Family, The wedding countdown has begun and we are ecstatic! But we are also now anxious as we witness the swine flu issue unfold. We are keenly aware that it could have an impact on our plans, and are in close contact with our wedding coordinator and sorting out what our options are should this issue not resolve itself within the next 60 days (** FYI - our wedding is in 60 days). The initial response to the swine flu is for the government and health agencies to take prompt precaution, issuing warnings and alerts to those traveling in and out of Mexico, or anywhere in general. With this issue being in its fairly early stages, we can only take a wait and see approach, and assess the facts as they come in. Because the situation is very fluid, things change hour by hour and what may seem to be of utmost urgency now may simply fizzle out in the coming weeks. That being said, the heart of this problem seems to stem from Mexico City -- which is more than 800 miles from the Cancun area, add that to the 80+ miles to Akumal. So far there have been no reported cases of anyone in the Riveria Maya area carrying the virus. There was mention of some students in New York who had traveled to Cancun some two weeks ago that returned home with the virus, but with drastically mild cases compared to those in Mexico City and all are already on the road to recovery. Take into consideration that Mexico City is also the most populated city in the world and not nearly as equipped with the quick medical response as the Cancun area, the country's #1 tourist spot. My coordinator, who is a Newport Beach native, has said the Cancun/Riviera Maya as not been affected thus far and all is operating normally, including tourist travel throughout the Yucutan. We are all on baited breath, hoping this will all work itself out for the best and that our long awaited and anticipated celebration will go forward as planned. We will be creating a page full of update information on the Swine Flu on our wedding website by tomorrow evening, and will continuously update it as more official information is released. As soon as we get a better handle of this situation, we will send out an official email update on how, if at all, our wedding plans will be affected. Hopefully we will know more in the next two weeks. In the meantime, we are channeling the most positive energy and prayers to our destination, and we kindly ask that you do the same! With Love, MarieSam & Tommy

*sigh* WHO is raising a worldwide pandemic alert for swine flu to 4 because of human to human contraction -- ugh I hope this is the worst of it, and it will all fizzle out quickly. i know these things are all being done so people are aware and take precautions, but it doesn't help when all these organizations are advising against all non-essential travel to Mexico are any of you guys taking a proactive approach and sending an email out to guests about this? so far i've gotten an email from a bridesmaid, i know it's just a matter of time. and of course my dad is freakin out ...
