  1. Hi ladies, I think I could use some of your expert advice....here it goes... I booked my wedding a few months ago for next May at EDR. I visited the resort with my mom and sister. We loved it, BUT, our only reservation was the beach...its not swimmable. I decided to let it go because everything else about the resort is BEAUTIFUL (even though my fiance is also very much a beach/ocean person) So, fast forward to about 2 weeks ago....my parents were in Riviera Maya for another wedding and visited EDR while they were there. When they came back, they told me that they were disappointed with the beach. (My mom has seen this resort before and knew this was an issue). So, then, I started rethinking everything. I started researching resorts AGAIN!! The last thing I want is for people to come all the way to Mexico for my wedding and feel disappointed that they can't go in the water. Anyway, now, I found out that Karisma has a new resort opening in October...the Azul Sensatori, which appears to have a more swimmable beach and looks just as beautiful as EDR. The question is...do I switch resorts?? Am I being totally crazy A few things that the Azul has which EDR does not is that it is family-friendly, which means we don't have to worry about my fiance's 15-year old niece. Also, the price that the TA quoted me is about $70 cheaper per person. BUT, it is a new resort...so, who knows what can happen? It's run by Karisma and has the exact same policies and wedding packages as EDR, so I'm familiar with all of that. I might even be able to keep my same WC. But, EDR is also very nice...I'm SO torn..... Feels good to vent....any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!
  2. Thank you, everyone! I love all of your ideas! My mom had the idea about taking a picture or printing out the picture from my registry and bringing that to the shower (while to store would ship it to my home). Then, she was thinking to have everyone decorate a box to make it kinda fun and then do a little contest at the shower to see who had the nicest box...I didn't know if that is corny or not I am so surprised to hear that BB &B would ship the gifts for so cheap...that is great! I'm not registered there, but, I wonder if Macy's or crate & Barrel would do something similar..I will look into it. Thanks for your help! I will share this with my mom and see what she thinks...
  3. I'm posting this question for my mom, who's trying to plan a bridal shower for me in NY (where she and many of my other friends and family are). The problem is that I live in California. I will be going to NY in December, so, she wants to plan the shower for when I'm there. She is trying to figure out a way to have a shower without all the big gifts, which I would either have to carry on the plane (not going to happen) or I would have to ship to California (expensive). I've told her that it's really not necessary to have the shower since it might be impractical, but, she really wants to do this because she feels that some people who won't be able to attend the wedding will want to participate in the shower at the very least. Anyway, does anyone have any ideas on how to handle having a shower without real shower gifts? Thanks!
  4. HI, I was just wondering for you girls who are having your wedding at the Azul Sensatori, which company is your WC from Is it karisma or lomas travel? or somewhere else?? Thanks for your help!
  5. I just wanted to add about Karisma's policy..... They changed it to $500 for outside photographers, but, they also added more of their own photographers to choose from....For example, now, Claudia Rodriguez is not considered an outside photographer (you don't have to pay fee). They do excellent work!
  6. I've been wondering about this too. My fiance's mother called my mom last week and during the conversation she told my mom that she thought I shouldn't have a shower since we are already asking a lot from everyone to go to our wedding. My mom wants to throw me a shower anyway. She doesn't think that a shower gift is going to break anyone's bank and she thinks every bride deserves a shower (if they want). Now, the dilemma is...I live in CA and my mom wants to throw me an "east coast" shower in NY, but, of course, I can't possibly travel home with a ton of gifts...how do you have a shower without gifts? Isn't that the point? I don't care so much about the gifts, but, wouldn't that be weird We thought about possibly doing a contest of who can decorate the nicest box (don't put a real gift inside), just for fun....is that weird? Anyone else have a similar situation? Or, any thoughts on how to handle this
  7. I was just in Boston a few weeks ago for my friends' wedding. One night, We ate at Summer Shack which was an awesome seafood place! I forget where it is exactly...but, it's somewhere downtown...I think close to Quincy Market. There's another place called King Pin which is right next door (we didn't go there, but heard it's fun).
  8. Katrina, I'm very curious about your review. We are also considering Belize for our honeymoon. Would you believe that it's actually cheaper/same price to fly LA to Cancun roundtrip and then back to Belize?!!! I couldn't understand considering it's way closer! BUt, we would probably drive as you did I believe....this may sound dumb, but, did you feel safe driving and at the border
  9. I also just booked this week....with Citlali! Yay! So excited! It's good to get that checked off! By the way, I think they all look awesome...you can't go wrong!
  10. Yup! I've been here for almost 8 years and this was the biggest one I've ever felt! I'm still shaking....(the earthquake stopped 20 minutes ago! )
  11. Hi! I'm from Santa Monica too! Welcome to the forum! There is a ton of information here! Have fun!
  12. Caribe Photo Royal Photo Mexican Wedding Photo If you have, please share with me your experience...I am trying to select a photographer at EDR and I have those to choose from. Thanks so much!
  13. Ok, thanks, guys! I think I'll post a question for others in the forum and ask if they've heard/used the others. We do want nice pics, but, we're also willing to sacrifice a little if it saves us some $$. So, I'm just wondering if the others are somewhat comparable in quality, then, I might just go with one of them. But, if I hear a lot of negative stuff...then, probably not.
  14. Has anyone had any experience with any of the "approved" photographers/videographers at EDR? My FI and I have decided to use one of the resorts photographers to avoid the $500 fee. The choices are Caribe Photo; Royale Photo; Claudia Rodriguez, or Mexican Wedding Photos. I know a lot of people on this forum have said positive things about Claudia, but, I'm wondering about the others....the prices vary quite a bit, so, I'm wondering what the best choice is... Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  15. We just sent out our STD's last week to over 200 people. Although many people are excited and told us they'll come, I think when it comes down to it, we'll have less than half (50-100).
  16. I have also been concerned about the rising air prices and worried if some of the guests are thinking that we expect them to come (even though we made it very clear that we understand if they don't). But, I try to tell myself that those who really want to come, would come despite the difference in price...whether you're paying $1000 or $1300...would that really make a huge difference in your decision It's an expense either way. Also, I guess if less people come, the more money we save (but, I would still want as many people as possible )
  17. I've been eating Kashi Go Lean for years...I like to mix it with a slightly sweeter cereal for a little better taste...but, I love it! I even brought with me to Mexico last year!
  18. HI Linz2511, I will also be having my ceremony at the Gazebo Fuentes. I was there in May and took pics. If you want to see them, pm and i'll send them to you. I think it's beautiful! I liked it even more than Gazebo 55 because it's greener (but, that's just me! )
  19. Ok, thanks. My WC gave me the health bar as an option for my cocktail hour, but, didn't mention for reception...now, I know why. Do you think it's too small for even a cocktail hour? Also, I am aware that La Isla may be an option for me if I have more than 75 people. I was there in May and so I've seen it before in case you can't find a pic. I really liked it!
  20. Does anyone have any pictures of the Health Bar? I am also in the process of trying to decide where to have my cocktail hour.... Also, just wondering...is the Health Bar large enough for a group 50-100 people for dinner reception?
  21. oops! I was totally confused! I booked my ceremony at the Fuentes Gazebo, which I was told can hold a larger group. I couldn't upload a picture, but, if you're interested you can pm me. It's also very green like presidential.
  22. We just got ours in today (yay!). Along with a magnet, we are sending a notecard which says..."We know its a large distance and expense for most of you, so we'd certainly understand anyone's absence. But, we would love nothing more than to celebrate our big day with all of you in this incredibly beautiful place. We look forward to an amazing vacation with as many of you as possible. Hope to see you there! "
  23. Hi Shannon! I just wanted to say hi and congrats for making progress! My wedding date is the same as yours and I'm feeling a bit of relief myself. I have recently done almost the same as you...booked resort, designed save the dates (waiting to get from vista print), finished website, and this past weekend, I also found THE dress! We're totally in sync... I'm thinking that a lot of the major stuff is out of the way for awhile..what about you?
