  1. I personally don't like vinyl. My mom does. She likes the fact that it's easy to keep clean (especially if it's regular vinyl with no cracks). She also likes the fact that it's cheap to replace. Personally, I've seen it curl, discolor, stain, get cut, and the cleaners and stuff you have to use to keep it looking nice and shiny are often toxic to pets. Don't get me started about the swiffer wet jet. There are so many other options - ceramic and porcelain tile, stone, bamboo flooring, cork flooring (which is really awesome, especially if you're after something a little softer), hardwoods. They even make flooring from recycled tires. My suggestion is to go to a really high end flooring shop and look at the stuff they have - and then buy the same stuff somewhere else for cheaper.
  2. A quick bit of advice. Don't resize your ring until you've worn it for a full summer. It's a whole lot more expensive to size it up than to size it down. When I first got my ring, I took it off every night. Same was true of my wedding band after I got that. It was a "me" thing - I had always taken off my rings. Then about September of last year, my rings were suddenly more snug. I hadn't gained weight or anything, it was just like my knuckle had gotten big. So much so that I was getting caluses from squeezing them off and on. Then one day I actually got a little cut, and it hurt to put them on or take them off, so I had to quit wearing them for about 2 weeks. Now I wear them all the time. I've learned to deal with getting my e-ring stuck in my hair when I wash it (a bandaid helps), and being careful when I do dishes. I'll probably get them sized up a half size after it warms up, but I'm not sure as then they'll spin freely around my finger...
  3. I struggled with this one too when I first joined. to the best of my ability to figure out, the profile pic goes into a big black hole, never to be visible to anyone. If you want a picture up to the left below your user name, upload the pic as your AVATAR picture - you may have to shrink it down a bit. The size limit is pretty small. If you want a picture (or whatever) appearing below your replies and such, you want to upload a picture into your siggie. Both of these can be found in your userCP. Good luck!

It's amazing to me how many of you are having your weddings all about the same time. You'll love it - they do a wonderful job! When we were there (a year and a half ago, now - holy smokes!), the beach was GREAT, full sand (save the pebbles and what have you) a few rocks here and there but definitely not "rocky". They did get quite a bit of seaweed washing up, but they have a tractor that comes along and picks it up. The rooms are nice, spacious and have all the amenities you'd expect from a higher end hotel (minibars, hairdryers, robes, irons and ironing boards, safes), the beds are comfy. And they are happy to accomodate you - if you want more towels, more whatever in your minibar, etc.
  5. Normally when my clients want to do something like this, I use two areas for responses like RSVP For the wedding celebration ___ yes ____ no For the day after catamaran tour ___yes ____ no (obviously something a bit more polished, but you get the jiist)
  6. Lindsey, thanks so much for your kind words! You were so easy to work with and I absolutely love the design we came up with! Your pics aren't showing up, so I hope you don't mind if I add them on your behalf!
  7. One option is some sort of newsletter or pre-travel brochure. I've also designed luggage tags that clients send to their guests after they have booked to keep up enthusiasm and so on.

  9. Take a look around there are lots of places that sell metallic papers that are okay with laser printers. I know that the Stardream and Curious Metallics are okay for both injet and laser printers - assuming your printer can take the thicker paper. Good luck!
  10. While most of the current generation would "get" an e-vite (nice graphics help), many people do appreciate receiving a phyiscal invitation. And if you put together a nice graphic, you can always print those on cardstock and send them to people who would prefer something on paper. For what it's worth, if you don't want to DIY them, you can find several invite designers on this site who can put something together for you fairly inexpensively. Best of luck!
  11. Congratulations Vanessa! Everything looks so fantastic, and you were a dream to work with! Can't wait to see the pictures!
  12. Ack! That is so dumb. Do you have any friends/family in the US? You could ship to them and have them send the shoes to you.
  13. I checked zappos (my favorite for shoes), here are a few I found - I wasn't sure how flat you wanted, so there are a couple with low heels. http://www.zappos.com/bcbgeneration-neena-silver-metallic-kid Type Z Corinne at Zappos.com rsvp Rayne at Zappos.com Touch Ups Dominique at Zappos.com Bouquets Meckenna at Zappos.com CARLOS by Carlos Santana Sparkle 2 at Zappos.com
  14. You absolutely deserve a vent! The reality is that everyone has an opinion about your wedding, and the hardest part is not letting them get to you. I can't tell you how many times I had to tell someone that Iappreciated their desires for us to have a wonderful wedding, but it was our wedding and we were going to do it just the way we wanted. If its any consolation, in hindsight these things make the funniest stories. Keep that in mind and keep your chin up.
  15. I agree with Danielle completely! My MIL was such a pain - wanting to go dress shopping with me (um, no thanks... my own mom can't be there, and you are out of line), begging me to dress people in sombreros (what?), wanting to decide menus... Just don't bring up the wedding in front of her. And whenever she asks (and believe me she will), just tell her that you want it all to be a surprise. Be sure to get your FI on board with the plan - otherwise she'll start in on him, too!
  16. I know that 4imprint and discountmugs will both do a customized logo, so you can use a monogram or any other image you want.
  17. Oooh! Very cute! No wonder people are liking them! (by the way, it looks like you wanted to conceal your last names, but they are visible in the website address, if you want to blur that out, too.)
  18. Love your bags, everything came together so nicely. What a great treat for your guests!
  19. I had the TV on last night while I was making dinner (okay, I was waiting for the Chinese food delivery guy), and "Mickey's Christmas Carol" was on. It occurs to me that off the top of my head I can think of at least half a dozen versions of "A Christmas Carol": 1. The classic B&W version with Alistair Sim 2. The more recent classic version with George C. Scott 3. The even more recent (probably doesn't qualify as a classic yet) with Patrick Stewart 4. The Muppet's Christmas Carol 5. Mickey's Christmas Carol 6. Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol There are a couple of others, too, called Scrooge or something like that. For me, no holiday season is complete without at least 2-3 viewings of a Muppet Christmas Carol, but of the actual movie there's a schism in my family between the George C. Scott version (Dad and I) and the Alistair Sim version (my sis and bro). My mom loves them all, my hubby likes whichever is the shortest. What about you?
  20. I am a certifiable Christmas Music Junkie. We should start a club. I LOVE all of the classics, anything Bing always makes me feel like Christmas. And I can listen to the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack for hours And I love some of the newer stuff, too! Shaken Not Stirred is great. Here are a few of my other more recent faves: Trans Siberian Orchestra - Christmas Canon (the piano version) YouTube - Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Christmas Canon Trans Siberian Orchestra - Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24) YouTube - Trans-Siberian Orchestra - "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo - 12/24" Faith Hill - Where are you Christmas YouTube - Faith Hill Where Are You Christmas (2000) (((Stereo))) {HQ} Somewhere in my Memory (from Home Alone): YouTube - Somewhere in my memory - John Williams (Home alone soundtrack) Chris Rea - Driving Home for Christmas YouTube - Chris Rea 'Driving Home For Christmas' I could go on and on! I think I'm going to have to put some on at work!
  21. Hi Kelie!! Congrats on your resort - I too was a Paradisus bride. The venue couldn't be better and Perla is super! Welcome to the forum!
  22. You absolutely should not feel obliged to invite her. Especially if your own mother isn't coming, and that is a perfectly reasonably explanation. My mom lives on the west coast and there was no way that she was going to be able to go dress shopping with me. When my MIL asked if she could come (and, like you, I really didn't want her along), I simply told her that I thought it would be hurtful to my own mom if I went dress shopping with her, but I really appreciated her offer of support. Good luck!
  23. Hi Julia! I'm sorry you're feeling disappointed. But don't, we've all had threads closed, merged together, etc. It happens. It's not a big deal and it's not intended as a slap on the wrist, it's just a way of saving forum space. I have to second Maureen's comments. I just searched for your posts and the one that was closed specifically asked whether TTD really ruined the dress, and the mods were right to close your thread - that question has been answered over and over. I know I've answered it too. And yes, my dress came out cleaner.
  24. I'm so sorry you're dealing with it. That's tough to go through. Personally, I would assume that for one reason or another, she's not going to make it to your wedding. But I wouldn't read into it. Chances are that there's some reason and it just won't work out. She's probably hiding from you because she feels badly and doesn't want to have to tell you. Best bet at this point is to promote one of your BMs. So, the question is whether her inability to attend is enough reason to break off your friendship. Good friends are hard to come by, but bad friends are found everywhere. I can't possibly know which camp she's in at the moment, but maybe just let things be for a while and see if you can rekindle your friendship when the pressure around the wedding is off. Good luck!
