What is Your Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue?

Recommended Posts

I had always been told this tradition was something bridesmaids/maid of honour took care of. However, I was just in a wedding and the bride did it all herself? Is this typical?

I always thought of it as a group effort - bride, MOB, bridal party, etc.

Here's my example:

something old: my mom gave me a piece of lace from my grandmother's wedding veil

something new: dress, shoes, etc.

something blue: I had a dress label made that included the blue that was one of our wedding colors (and a blue ribbon in my flowers, and a blue jeweled starfish - I went overboard with blue!)

something borrowed: this had stumped me, but a dear friend surprised me by sending me her handkerchief she used in her wedding as a loaner. she wasn't able to attend, so it meant that much more to me to have it for my wedding. I laundered it and sent it back when we returned from Mexico.

bottom line (as with most things wedding) - do what works best for you.

Here's what I have so far

Something new: My dress and shoes

Something old: My best friend died 8yrs ago and I have an old wife beater of his. I'm going to cut a piece out in the shape of a heart and have it sewn into the inside of bodice of my dress

Something borrowed: ??????

Something blue: I haven't finalized this yet but I really really want to have my name (Mrs. Tuff) sewn inside the hem line of my dress in blue. Hopefully, the place I will have my dress altered will be able to do this.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
