Striving for 150!!!

I find that I am often reading all of the various posts, but don't have a lot to contribute. I have been reading on this forum for a while, but I never realized until recently that I should have been posting all this time. Oh well, at least we all know now and can post up a storm on here to get to 150. My wedding is not until August 2013, so I have some time.

Hey Jolene!  Yeah I know there aren't many Varadero brides on here because it's only Canadians and the UK brides that can get married there..for me it's shot in the dark.

I had two depressing moments this week - 1 - I found out the resort can't blow up balloons with Helium - I was going for this look:

700

I even asked them twice in May to verify they could do this, before ordering my balloons..and only now they tell me they meant they can blow them up with air..so they wont float...so yah..I'll just put a Giant 1 foot balloon on everyone's plates then??  WTF

The second was with the groomsmen attire..it's a ridiculously long story..basically my groom is tall and slim, and his two groomsmen are shorter and stalky..and he did go shopping with them once to get their sizes, and then Josh and I were going to pick out the pants they were going to wear and buy them for them.  So we did that and bought them their sizes..only when they tried on the pants they didn't fit (straight leg pants) vs the style they tried on to give Josh their sizes.  I wasn't there to observe the first shopping trip, and Josh just came clean and told me they were at tommy bahama trying linen pants.  I always said I do not want them wearing linen pants or shirts..so I don't know how that happenned other than Josh didn't really know what linen pants were.   (if you want something done right, do it yourself)    So we had to bring the pants back, and I figured Josh could keep his, and since he's the groom he could look different plus he's got a matching vest and it would be really hard to find all of that again.

So one groomsmen (Brad) lives across the country from us, and doesn't have access to the store where we bought the pants. The other lives in the same city as us (Kirk)..so we went shopping with Kirk and had him try a bunch of things and managed to have them exchange the old pants for a new pair.   So I'm thinking, great!!   We didn't Brad's pair back yet, so we had to wait to recieve them, and then go back and take our chances doing the Exchange and guess on his size for Brad.   So Josh went to the mall yesterday with the second pair of pants to pick up the new ones, and try and exchange (we're WAYYY past the deadline, and do not have a reciept), but the store wouldn't exchange for him ($100 pants that they are still selling and still have tags on them).   So he called me and said they wont exchange them.  So I said go back and talk to the manager.  He does, and it seems like he's going to do it, except the new pants we want are all of a sudden "only sold as a suit", so you need to get it as a set with pants and a blazer for $250....ummm...we just bought the pants last week without a blazer (the new pants are $130 so more than the originals), and they still have them tagged as though they are something that can be bought on it's own.    I'm so pissed, so now we're out either $100 for the pants that don't fit him and that they wont exchange, or $150 because we had to buy more expensive pants AND a blazer that they wont wear IF they decide to let us exchange the old ones.

I seriously cried for about an hour yesterday..it was too much for 1 week for me to deal with, and those were my first wedding tears.  I'm just picturing all three guys wearing something different and it'll look like a mess...

:(

Have you guys had any dissapointments??

Here's my funeral to balloons...

Oh no! DwBride, I'm so sorry to hear about all the disappointments. That really is a neat decoration concept that I hadn't seen before. It is frustrating waiting for a direct answer sometimes. I emailed our resort's photographer twice and asked our WC to contact them, because I wasn't hearing from them (still haven't heard anything from them to this day). This was at least 3 weeks ago. So, instead of going with the resort's photographer and saving us the $300 outside vendor fee, we are going with a different photographer. Even if we have to suck it up and pay an ungodly amount of money just to have another photographer come in, it will be worth it not to use the resort's photographer that can't even respond to a simple email.

Why don't you use paper lanterns you could get them in white and it would sort of give you the same feeling and look!!!!!

I have only so far had one thing that has gotten to me I had a TA that quoted my trip and got us a great deal, but then she had a death in the family and has been out of the office so the girl that I am working with now has had to requote the package and she is coming back $500 more per person, when I asked about why it was so much more she is telling that the other TA quoted my package for November 2012 not 2013... who plans a wedding a month away??? So I am not sure what to do now I cant expect that my guests are going to pay 1900 each I dont even want to pay that much... so I gues that I am back to the drawing board... also part of my family is leaving out of Winnipeg and now apperently Sunwing doesn't have any flights to Cuba from Winnipeg until December, give me a break!

I think that I if I went to that store and they wanted me to pay that much more for pants when I was there the week before I would lose my mind and start freaking out in the middle of the store demanding that someone do something, then maybe they would give them to me at the right price just to get me out of the store!!!!

Jolene I am sorry that you have had such a hard week. I would be highly upset about the balloons not because of the rule but the inconsistency. What color were the balloons? What's your color scheme? The groomsmen issue just sucks that happened at a wedding in Vegas and we had to take him the day of the wedding to buy pants so glass half full it's not the day of the wedding.

I have had one major disappointment I had my heart on a venture called gee-jam its breath taking but it was too small and excessively priced. So I had to mourn it! It took like 2 weeks before I could move on. I was seriously a pouty baby!!!! But I am completely in love with my venue now and it honestly is a better fit and vibe for my theme. So it was Irie

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
