Hi ladies, First off, congrats and happy planning!!! I am new to this site and would love to get some advice! My fiancé and I are looking to have our wedding in the DR spring of 2014. I have emailed the resort we would like to have our wedding, Majestic Elegance, and have not heard back yet. Because spring will be here before we know it I want to get STDs out by August 1st. Do you feel 9-10 months notice is enough? Also what are you're opinions on a TA? I'm up in the air as to whether or not we should get one or just work with the resort planners? Thanks in advance looking forward to your advice:)

Between my daughters and I we got 36 pairs. We are in Steaming Hot California so it's a staple and we also got some to be set aside for when we go to Jamaica.

I thought there was a 5 pair maximum per customer...I mean there is here anyway

I was able to get 10 pairs - by going threw the line twice - I went late in the day ... there weren't any ladies flops left (and the line was only a couple of people long)  so I just grabbed the ones I needed for the guys.   If there had been ladies ones left I am sure I could have gone threw a couple of more times to get the 10 I needed... the kid that I got both times at the register was excited I was getting these for my wedding! hehehe

That's awesome!  I'm sure if I were to ever have a baby girl she would be the same (if she is anything like her mother anyways) hahah

Hi!! Recently engaged and jumping right into planning. We've always wanted a destination wedding and since I'm a teacher we have a limited time frame. We've decided to shoot for April 5, 2014....yep 9 months away!!! Am I crazy??? My first step is a site visit which I'm hoping to do this month but I'm having such a difficult time picking a location. We want an all inclusive resort in Mexico or the Caribbean that is smaller and doesn't host multiple wedding a day. We are also fans of staying at a resort but holding the wedding at a villa. We are estimating about 60-70 people...where do we even begin??? Any advice for a newbie in a hurry???

Hello hclibby1982,

Thanks for the tip!  I have never been to St. Lucia so any info like this is helpful.   I actually did read (on tripadvisor, I think) a review about how they took a photo of a guy climbing a tree (for a coconut, I think) He allowed the picture to be taken but then jumped down from the tree and asked for money for "posing" for the picture.

I am going to be sending packages of St. Lucia info out to everyone and was going to include that story so they know not to snap random pics of people... if you don't mind I might include your story to - I don't want anyone to feel like they wish they had known before hand - if I can help it!

Which resort(s) have you stayed at there?

I've actually never stayed at a resort there, I've only been there on cruises.  I've done tours of the island (one was 9 hrs so I saw a lot), catamarans, that type of stuff. The catamaran we did went past all of the resorts and they looked beautiful.  Since I've never stayed at a resort I'm definitely not an expert but I did get to see a lot.

The picture thing cracks me up, one of the first times I went to Caribbean there was a guy with a monkey and he asked if I wanted to pet it, so I said sure, then he asked if I wanted him to take a picture I said yes again. Then he told me it would be $20.  I figured he probably needed the money more than me but my lesson learned what don't take pictures or let anyone take a picture of you. It's crazy!

What resort are you getting married at?  I'm sure you mentioned it but this board has been so active I can't keep up!

I feel like I haven't got anything done for the wedding. I don't know what I want or where to even start! I know where I am getting married  and a schedule of the day but besides that I am stuck. Just to make things worse, today I decided to call my travel agent to talk to her about the resort and the rooms so that I can get my invitations made and guess what? It looks like I HAVE NO travel agent! No wonder I sent an email 3 weeks ago and NEVER got an answer. I am beyond angry. Apple Vacation didn't bother to inform me, or get me a new travel agent or anything!!!!!!!!!!!!! I called and I got a machine. They are going to get a piece of my mind because that is bad customer service!! I should have been informed that the TA quit or left or anything and got replaced ASAP. This is something I am not suppose to be stressing about. I am not a happy camper.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
