Shelley - sorry to hear, but I don't think you should totally lose hope. I went thru the whole panel of hormone testing, for other reasons, but in any case my doctor explained every single line item to me.

Questions:

1. at what point in your cycle did you have your blood drawn?

2. did you have your other hormone levels tested as well? (estrone, estrodiol, progesterone, etc)?

3. what kind of doctor are you seeing?

good questions, and I don't really understand this all too well, either... but I was tested on the 7th day (pill free), I had all the above tests and she did repeats today... My regular OB doctor

Shelley I'm so sorry that you are going through this. But I don't really don't think you should let this get you down. There is so much out there in the world of biology and medicine that most of us don't fully understand. I think you should wait to get more test results and have your doctor explain everything to you before you start getting upset. Plus there are so many advances in medicine that even if you did have difficulty getting pregnant there may be something to aid you.

Think of all those people that are never supposed to walk again and do, those people who get amputated legs and then do triatholons. This is just a little bump in the road. You are such an amazing person and you and Amos deserve to have a little munchkin and you WILL have it. I have complete faith in that. grouphug.gif

OK, well this might make more sense if you have a copy of your lab results in front of you, but I'll give it a stab...

Day 7 of your cycle falls smack dab in the middle of the "follicular phase." During this phase, FSH levels actually RISE in comparison to baseline. The FSH reference ranges my lab tests show are as follows:

Follicular Phase 2.5 - 10.2

Mid-Cycle Peak 3.1 - 17.7

Luteal Phase 1.5 - 9.1

My understanding also is that it is ideal to do hormonal testing towards the end of the luteal phase of your cycle - like day 25.

Anyway, don't panic. I think there is a lot more info for you to extract from your doctor. If you are interested in understanding all of the phases, there is a really good wikipedia article with a nice chart that helps: Menstrual cycle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I hope this info helps you :)

I say do a lot of research, as much as possible and talk to different doctors. There has to be something they can do about it, I am doubting its impossible for you to have a baby. So, take a deep breath, try to relax and when it all sinks in, start searching for options. There has to be options for you. I really believe that you will have a baby, you just need to figure out how.
Shelley I am sorry to hear this - but I was going to say something similar to what Julie said, it's better to know now so you can deal with this sooner rather than later after you've been hitting your head on a wall for months! I dont' know enough medically to say that everything will be ok, but I know that you can't fix something you don't know is broken! Hang in there - and we're here for you.

Shelly I'm so sorry to hear this, and that this news is coming right before your wedding. I don't really know alot about fertility, but I'd highly recommend seeing a fertility specialist before you get too stressed. Like Christa said, there are sooooo many factors that go into interpreting results of hormone tests. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
