How did your mom react when she saw you in your wedding gown?

Recommended Posts

My mom came shopping with me everytime. I brought her because she is really honest and I knew she would tell me the truth. She did not cry, and I never even thought she might. I also did not cry.

She was just very happy when she saw dresses on me, all of them actually. lol Then we would talk about them and decide it was not the one for me. But, she was happy to see me in all of them. That was a nice feeling. She was there when I picked the one and has come with me to my fittings as well. But no tears. She did not cry over my sister in her dress, why would she cry over me :)

I think we should not worry so much about what our mom't think, they have different taste and different budgets in mind then we do. So, we should go with with we love and mom will be happy as long as we are happy.

I am so sorry that a lot of you ladies didn't get the reactions that you wanted from your moms. I am sure deep down they were smiling (maybe even crying)!

I am so lucky to have such a wonderful mother. I scheduled my first dress shopping trip when my mother was in town (she lives about 500 miles away) and this was the only reason I did so because I wanted her to be a part of it. I was not actually that excited to go dress shopping either. I tried on many dresses and she was smiling the whole time. By the time I put on the last one and came out of the fitting room, she could barely contain herself. She starting crying because she said this last one was the most beautiful she had ever seen and that it was made for me! It was my favorite of the bunch too and I didn't want to take it off. I almost started crying too. My mother took lots of pictures and I was so happy that I could share that experience with her!

Its pretty crazy, and NO, I do not feel prepared. Lots and lots to do still, and no time to do it in. Oh well, it will get done, I just might not sleep for the next 35 days.

Well, I'm not close to my mom and since she lives 2 states away, she didn't come with me to shop nor did her opinion of the gown matter to me one bit.

At my sister's request, I did email my mother photos of my dress and her reply "You might need to lose some weight for it to look good. But it's very pretty." Gee. Thanks.

Honestly, I don't think a mother's opinion matters at all. My mom was married in 1971 in a tea-length lace gown, pearls and sported a massive updo. Her idea of what one should be married in doesn't really jive with my own personal tastes! So, bottom line: don't put too much stock in what anyone (your mom, FI, sibling, friend, etc.) says... if YOU like the gown, that is what matters! :)

My mum won't be able to come shopping with me, she's 81, very frail and lives 200 miles away. When I told her I was getting married at long last (been together for 20 years), she said, if i wanted she would make mine for me. She hand stitched my sisters for her 33 years ago and said she would do the same for me. I said thanks but no thanks, too much for her now, and her eyes aren't as good as they used to be. She was okay with this. As she wouldn't be going to the wedding, I said when I got home I, my husband and my bridesmaids would come to see her, we would put our wedding clothes on and have photos taken with her for the album. She was very pleased with this. Even if she had gone with me shopping, I don't think she would have cried though, not a very teary person but she would have said what she thought looked nice on me and what didn't.

I just went dress shopping for the first time yesterday. My mom passed away when I was 10, and any time a big event (especially my wedding) I always have a hard time not having her here with me. I had an entourage with me though: my two aunts, my cousin and my future mother in law. One of my aunts started to cry with the first dress which snowballed into all of us crying. It was a great experience, and I have two dresses that I really like. I will post the pics shortly!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
