  1. I am surprised that Karisma didn't make one of these resorts adult-only. They look great tho!
  2. We're doing pants with short sleeve shirts - that is just my preference. We told FI's guys and they are all OK with it. Honestly, I think shorts is just too casual, but if you are OK with it, then do what is best for you. I found tropical weight trousers and nice shirts at this website: TravelSmith*Travel Clothing, Travel Accessories, and Luggage from TravelSmith Outfitters so the guys don't need to wear shorts to be cooler, since the fabric of the trousers is lightweight. Plus, with a 5pm ceremony on the beach and the breeze, it's not like they'll be roasting. They can make do. FI is wearing a suit! (his choice) At least I didn't make them do that. LOL
  3. You're stunning...why in the world would you ever be self-conscious about your body You have a lovely figure! Your FI will pass out when he sees these!
  4. We're having a hand ceremony because I think the sand ceremony is just way too overdone...sorry, but just my .02. I wanted a ring warming but was paranoid about some guest dropping the rings in the sand on the beach...ugh. I'd freak if that happened. Another way we are personalizing our wedding is having our welcome dinner at a French restaurant in Playa del Carmen and handing out Eiffel Tower keychains as a favor. FI and I met in Paris on a blind date so dinner at a French restaurant fits! We're also putting travel candles in our OOT bags...
  5. If you're large-breasted, I'd wear a corset and just deal with it. I plan on wearing a bustier because cups in my dress would make me look like Dolly Parton and that's just crazy. I purchased my longline bustier here Bras and Swimsuits Store Specializing in Bra Sized Intimates, Swimwear, and Shapewear including Full Figure Bras and Plus Size Swimsuits
  6. Soooooooo lovely! Elizabeth's photos are just breathtaking of the two of you. That slideshow had me in tears... very beautiful wedding.
  7. We've not booked vendors yet, but are fully expecting to shell out about $17,000 USD for the whole shebang (that incl. rings, travel, hotel, wedding, activities...the whole kit & kaboodle). We tried to plan a wedding San Diego, CA AND then Sedona, AZ before we decided to go DW. We just could not get under $25K unless we went to Mexico. I think a wedding + one week in an AI with all our friends/fam for less than what we'd pay for ONE DAY in the states is fantastic. I can't wait!!!!
  8. I'd love to go barefoot, but I really want to wear a pair of sassy heels with my gown, and if I do that, the dress will be too short on land and look silly. So, my current plan is to wearlow-heeled espadrilles for the beach ceremony and find a pair of Stuart Weitzman's with a 2.25 inch heel for the reception which will most likely be on a terrace or in a restaurant. I'm only 5'6" - I want a little more height!
  9. I have contacted the restaurant and await their reply re: wedding receptions, but just thought I'd post here and see if any one knows of this restaurant, has eaten there or heard about it in general. After becoming totally fed up with the price gouging and "no outside vendors" rule at AZUL Beach Resort, FI and I have decided to have our reception at a restaurant in Playa del Carmen instead. TIA...
  10. FI and I were considering a wedding here, but we were blown away at some of the costs. $1300 for a DJ for 4 hours and $325 for every hour thereafter. Seriously, a DJ in San Diego for 6 hours is about $1100!!!! Bouquets in upwards of $75 (for standard stargazer or tiger lillies). Exorbitant open bar fees...not to mention, you're forced into purchasing a package which may have items you don't want / need. It's really sad because we LOVE the look of AZUL. The crazy costs however have us looking into other options.
  11. How kind! Thank you.... we are fortunate to live in an area of San Diego that is not in any imminent danger. The devastation in the most affected areas here is so sad though. Two of my friends have lost their homes. Thankfully, they evacuated early and were able to take pictures, clothing and other treasured items. But their homes are gone. The outpouring of support in the community and from others has been incredible though. Good thoughts and good vibes all around!
  12. i contacted the hotel directly and they told me. their wedding coordinator said they are accepting weddings thru may 08. you can contact them via their website for more info.
  13. Yep - absolutely! We plan on having our photographer do the "first look" photos and a few bridal party shots "pre-game". Seeing FI beforehand isn't that big of a deal. I know I"ll still get teared up and emotional for the ceremony...
  14. the anne klein is pretty, but will you be able to keep it on your feet? mules are hard to walk around in, and especially, to dance in. have you thought about a shoe with an ankle strap?
  15. I resurrected this topic because I, too, am having to deal with this!! A girlfriend of mine asked me where the wedding is going to be held and I sent her the resort info. She emailed me back and said, "I don't do resorts, I'll just stay in a small hotelito or B&B." Um...OK. So I contacted the resort and found out the guest passes are $75. Now, part of me thinks I should pay it; but the other part of me is like: you choose to stay elsewhere, why should I have to fork out $$$ for that person to come on the property? And of course, now I am worried other guests might do this too. Grrrrrr.... At least I have a while to mull this over! Good points above tho that everyone has shared.
  16. Honestly, even with a 3-inch wedge, you'll still look pretty petite next to your guy who is 6'2". If you're determined to wear heels, choose function over fashion -- wear espadrilles or a similar sandal with good ankle support for the ceremony. You can always change your shoes out to something fun (like a stiletto sandal) for the reception, provided you're on a hard, stable surface. I tried these wedges on and they were very comfy - not high stylin', but they'd work in the sand: Touch Ups Madison - White Satin - Free Shipping & Return Shipping
  17. Casa Obelisco Casa Isabel Hacienda San Angel All are gorgeous boutique style B&B inns. Lots of charm, character, good location, pristine furnishings... can't go wrong!
  18. I just bought a TTD gown from chic bridal for $200. Chic Bridal Silk Collection You might also want to look at bestbridalprices.com and choose a white bridesmaid dress.
  19. I 2nd Zappos.com. I LOVE that site - plus, they offer free shipping & free returns. You just can't go wrong! I adore high heels and totally wanted to splurge on a pair of Louboutins, but thought better of it! I actually found my wedding sandals on Amazon.com of all places. I wanted a gold wedge sandal that wouldn't sink into the sand. They're not as fancy or funky as I would've liked, but they'll do the trick! I can't imagine wearing a traditional high heel in the sand. Amazon.com: AK Anne Klein Women's Divine Sandal: Apparel
  20. AZUL Beach Resort in Puerto Morelos will do beach wedding & reception (right on the beach). The Playa del Carmen Royal Porto Real will do beach receptions as well.
  21. Hello there! We are also planning on doing a mini-moon for four or five nights after we have our wedding on Isla Mujeres. We will be staying in Tankah at a small inn. If your heart is set on AI, Royal Hideaway Playacar is a good bet if you want to be pampered and enjoy good food. Be aware, however, that the beach there is non-existent. Or, take the boat over to Isla Mujeres and stay at Villa Rolandi. It is not AI, but the rates include breakfast + dinner, and the hotel is just gorgeous. Good luck!
  22. Option #1: Take a boat over to Isla Mujeres and honeymoon there. The best lodging choices I have found are Ixchel Condos (beachfront at Playa Norte); or, Casa Sirena, a darling B&B in town and walking distance to the beach Casa Sirena Option #2: Tulum faves: Mezzanine boutique hotel looks so chic: mezzanine | tulum, mexico ; or you could also stay at Tierras del Sol which is a small hotel with beach cabanas. Rustic but romantic! As for All Inclusive being better than staying at a small hotel and eating out, I really can't say. I don't stay in AI's.
  23. Awwww - so lovely! I welled up with tears and I'm a big, sobbing mess now! LOL!!! I love that song... Gorgeous photography. Trista Lerit is an Orange County photographer, BTW.
  24. We plan on seating our photographer with our guests of honor, near our sweetheart table. And they will enjoy the same 3-course dinner as everyone else. They work soooo hard... I used to assist a wedding coordinator, and one wedding I helped at the bride even had bottled H20 and snacks for her photographer BEFORE the ceremony!! Now THAT'S thinking ahead and being super nice. I like it! As for our DJ, my wedding coord said they receive a meal as well but will eat apart from the group (since they'll be managing the music, etc.). However nothing but the best for the photog!
