Soooooooooooo frustrated with prices!!! :(

Recommended Posts

Be careful with your risk taking, as it is your wedding!

We booked ours in April (January Wedding)... our TA got us an AMAZING deal of 950 per person for a dbl occupancy.  or 1299 for private beach cottages.  (includes air fare transfers, etc).  Now, we had 65 people book at this price, so I ended up geting 2 free spots, one of the reasons it was so cheap was because prices for that week had JUST been released that day, when we sent our quotes in, they asked us if we would mind waiting while they negotiated with hotel/air... we said sure, and they delivered!! But with that being said, it is now June, and the plane is full! so no one else can book (and a few of my friends said they wanted to wait last min and get a last min deal... well, guess they are out of luck!!) Also, before the plane booked, our prices went back up to 1500, so with that being said... if one or more large groups book (there happens to be another wedding while we are there) then the airlines and resorts will up their prices too!

That is an UNREAL price, we got that on a last minute deal a few years back but I thought it would be next to impossible to get that in advance for our wedding.  What resort, tour operator and travel agent did you use?! Just curious!!!!!

Yup I'm aware of that but the rates that we got are valid until the end of July so that should give the people we really care about being there plenty of time to put down a deposit and then they don't have to pay in full until Dec.  I am also making sure to advise people that we are going over spring break so to book early to avoid disapointment.  As well for the slow pokes out there we will be holding those extra 30 spots just have to let her know how many to hold out of Vancouver and Toronto and we don't have to give names to those spots until December as well.  Plus for us for every 10 people that book that 11th is free up to 4 people.  So heres to hoping all of this will work out and we might still get a lower price if it drops at all up to 60 days prior to our wedding.

We used Breezes Trelawny,
Its not a 5* by any means, but it is a great family resort, and we have kids coming (ours included).  I have had people I know go there and they loved it.... The only reason why I chose it instead of a fancy 5* is because it is clean, but also its friendly and we are able to party there lol! (we have a roudy crowd) We went with Sunwing and the Travel agent was my FI aunt, she is based in Kingston ON (we live in North Bay which is about 5hrs away and dealt with her over the phone and internet...) I could give you her contact info if you would like! Just PM me if you want it.  Regardless of the star rating, I think that 950 down from 1500 is a steal lol.

I found the best TA online, Mitch from TripGuy.com, and he guarantees the lowest price which I have already tested once for the honeymoon and he came through!  And we have a group contract with all of the perks offered by the hotel, too.

Something that I have noticed, airfare is cheapest when prices are first released and you may luck out booking the week before the trip but you will probably lose that cushy non-stop flight as they book up early, so our 3 hour flight could take 8 hours including layovers.  No thank you!

We are actually right past the 6 month mark, and I have noticed a significant drop in hotel prices so I have contacted the TA again, and am waiting for his response.  It is around a 20% price drop.  I am so excited because it will help ease everyones' minds about money.

Hi there, wondering if we should be on price release watch? My wedding is in Feb 2012 and, I too, am waiting for the prices to be released by Jetblue. i called them directly and they couldn't tell me when they'd be released. If you see it, please drop a line here! I will too!

I don't know what to do!!! Just got the best quote so far for my April 21st, 2012 departure date - $1362. My fiance thinks this is still too high and that it's so early that we might as well wait a few more months. But you guys seem to book REALLY early... is there anyone that did wait/is waiting and what are your opinions?? I'm departing from Toronto, btw. THANKS!

You could always see if your TA offers a one time price drop. It seems that most compaines do and you have up to 60 days before departure to take the lower rate if one comes about.  I know I personally thought about waiting but thought that the rates I was getting are probably gonna be the best that we can get as we are going on Ontario spring break. As well I would hate to have all direct flights booked up or something silly just because I waited.

I think you're right - they do offer a one time price adjustment so I think I will go with this rate.

I am having a really hard time making an important decision right now - I have been dealing with three different travel agents to get a good deal... now all three have matched each other at $1362/person. So now I don't know who to go with!!

One is SellOffVacations, one is Flight Centre and one has her own small company. They've all been helpful and are offering the same deal.

If I provide 10 deposits right away, Flight Center can hold 20 seats at the same rate, while SellOff and the other girl can hold 40, and that's much better for me to get my invitations out. So I think that drops Flight Center.

The girl with her own company has been really helpful but I worry about booking with a small company vs SellOff ... I feel like if anything goes wrong, there's more accountability with SellOff... what do you think???

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
