  1. Good Luck Leigh!!!!! enjoy your new home, dont let it stress ya out too much!
  2. Could someone please explain to me WHY having children at a wedding is so bad? I really dont understand it, I see A LOT of people saying they went with the "no children" option. For me, I have a 8 month old, and I couldnt imagine not having him there (given this is not most situations).... but I would like to know, whats wrong with kids?! lol, its been confusing me so if someone could please explain!! as for the couples, I really dont think you should invite one and not the other, I would be offended if I was asked to go to a wedding without my FI and expected me to dish out that cash. (especially because I would either have to pay the single rate OR be paired up with someone else).. I would give Tori's post a read, because I agree 100%!
  3. Luvmoo, We may have an issue on our hands with our "pharmaceuticals" http://www.jacustoms.gov.jm/home_template.php?page=restricted&group_id=1 Pharmaceuticals are restricted from entering Jamaica (I am assuming unless its like one advil for personal use) without a PHD certificate and a Permit. If we have a few entering bulk then they may not allow us to bring them in (I fear). I am unsure, I may call them and ask, or I may plead ignorance and see if that issue crosses me when I pass through customs. In reguards to your other question, When you click on passangers under the jamaican customs website, it reads this Instruments and tools to be used for the purpose of their profession, trade, occupation or employment, provided that the items have been in the passengers’ possession and bonafide use for a reasonable period; Tobacco and some potable articles including wines and spirits in the baggage or on the person which they might reasonably be expected to carry with them for personal use, in such quantities as the Commissioner may from time to time approve; Used household effects which have been in the passenger’s use for a reasonable period of time and are not imported for sale; A passenger who is eighteen (18) years or older and who is the holder of a Jamaican passport or is ordinarily resident in Jamaica is entitled to additional duty concession in respect of other personal or household effects not specified in (1), (2) or (3) above which the proper officer is satisfied are not imported for sale or commercial exchange and do not exceed US$500 in total value. This concession will not be granted to a person who has been permitted duty free importation under this section within the six-month period immediately preceding the date of return to Jamaica. There was also another section under "duties/taxes" that read this: Customs User Fee (CUF) The Customs User Fee is applicable to all imports and is calculated on the CIF value of all goods being imported. The fee also forms part of the personal and household effects of a passenger, if the value of these goods have exceeded US$500.00 ....im not sure if this is what you were looking for? Browse that sight and let me know what conclusions you draw, I found the wording a little confusing lol...
  4. I LOVE your dress! AMAZING, any of those shoes will look GREAT with it!!
  5. Wow, you really have to check this thread every 15 mins or you lose track of what we're talking about ahaha. Tori- LOVE the first pair, depending on your dress though, if you dont have your dress yet (I cant remember?) I would choose the last pair... and about the PM, I am definately NOT sharing templates, if you want it that bad, earn it!!!!
  6. I definately LOVE LOVE LOVE the bridal one!!!! I want it for mine lol. im so jealous as I am no where near as crafty as you, and definately can not make one for myself, so I will probably end up buying one (I have yet to find one that I like other than yours lol). The red one is very nice, I think the feather combination is outstanding on it! Im going to have to agree with the ladies about the turquoise one, not a fan of the centre of it! its nice, but I think if you changed it up with beading or a nice jewel, that it would be that much better!! amazing work!
  7. I too need some "shoe" inspiration, if you see any nice gold ones, let me know lol. Ok, as for the dress. It is online one the SKETCHIEST website ever lol. Its probably not that sketchy, BUT there was a language barrier, it was coming from China.... and the negative comments were all about sizing issues... having said that... I opted for one similar, but not quite it from a website called www.lightinthebox.com. They have really nice dresses, and SUPER cheap. If you buy tonight, you get 55% off shipping! Hence why I bought it. The shoulder strap is a tad different, but my mother in law said she can make that the exact same if I wanted it. I was emailing a few dress makers to see if htey could do it, but they said the design is alot more complicated than it looks, and it would cost around 300... So I bought the dress, so that I have the shape, or "shell" lol, and If i want to make a replica all i need to do is change the shoulder strap =) TADA! for 200 less too!!
  8. Oh man, I just caught up to our OOT thread, and its so overwhelming lol.. I NEED to stop looking at it, im at the point where I want to burn my statements and receipts, and I spend WAY more time on those bags than the wedding itself lol. On another note! I BOUGHT ANOTHER DRESS!!! YAY! im wearing it for my reception because as I stated before, I do not want to be hot and sweaty lol. I HATE sweating.. and since I had my boy, it seems like I have lost my ability to cope with the heat. I posted it earlier, but I will post again because I LOVE IT! here is my dress: OK, so I have a picture of my wedding band. BUT it looks off next to my Ering. this picture is the last time I sent it back, so its still bigger than what it is present date. My reasoning for it being so big, is that I am a nurse. I can not wear my Ering, but I CAN have a wedding band. FI wanted me to get something that I would love, as I will be wearing it daily. The ONLY time I will be wearing my Ering is at night or if we go out, so I opted for a larger wedding band.. So as I said, it looks off in this picture (But then again this picture is old, so it no longer is as wide or tall as the pic). I should probably wait to give you the finished picture, BUT I couldnt wait any longer. I needed to show people this ring! I am starting to have doubts and am debating on exchanging for a simple band?!?! I HATE SECOND GUESSING!!!! here she is!
  9. I completely agree with the above! I like seeing the whole package! I like reading, but im also more of a visual person as well, so pictures always make it compelte for me! Especially if your trying to explain something... its also nice to show off all that hard work that went into the planning!!
  10. I REALLY like that welcome dress! I am looking into having my reception dress made right now! I will post pics IF/WHEN it happens lol. Great news, my ring came back, and I guess the third time is a charm.. they finally got it right... custom design has been a pain in the butt, but its EXACTLY what I wanted, so I cant complain!! I am not picking it up until sept, ill try to swing by and get a pic (I was too caught up in excitement to remember)
  11. I did have to match a few people, but not many, for the most part they knew each other! the ones that I did match up I said "hey do you want to room with someone, it would save you a couple hundred bucks" and it went smooth from there lol. I didnt worry too much about personalities, as we wont be spending much time in the rooms!
  12. I am giving one bag per couple, and then one bag for each single... even if they are sharing room, if they came without a partner, I didnt want to make them share... but that was just my way of thinking =) go with your budget! i have 65 people, and 37 bags!!
  13. I am from North Bay, my mom is from Brampton, and my FI mom is from Brighton (Near Trenton) so we are kind of spread out all over if need be lol. I was going to do something like this as my reception dress:
  14. I wish I didnt need 67, or id ask someone if they had extra's OR if they could order some spare if they run into the lucky chance that they are able to get some, I think its all who you talk to, because when I got my guides other brides were having issues getting them! Maybe I will try my email contact that I have.
  15. I just called there, and they said they dont give them out at all... what did you say when talking to them? GAH maybe I should give you my information and get you to talk to them and ship them to my address!! LOL
  16. OH MY GOSH! I love drugstore.com... GAH I need to disable myself from this thread lol, it makes me spend SO much money, im going to get browsing and see if I can help chip in on any of the finds!!! I feel like I already have most of it though so I am half affraid to look and see what I could have gotten a better deal from lol. Dollarama also has Wet Napkins (called wet ones) Done quote me on this, as they are tucked away in my closet, BUT I think its 32 for 1.00 or something along those lines??? A great thing to put in bags, especially if there are parents.... God I hate sticky fingers lol.
  17. oh I had one more thing I wanted to discuss. Is anyone changing into a different dress for their reception? I wasnt going to, BUT ever since I had my son, I have been WAY too hot, It never bothered me before, but I cant take it lately, and its only been in the 30's (which is high for here but really, nothing too drastic). I have been revisiting the idea of a reception dress lately... for my own sweaty sake lol. And do any of you know any decently priced dress makers? I have one that I really do like, but I dont like where I would be buying it from, it seems a little... sketchy? (its online). So I was thinking of having it copied.
  18. tI too would like to know what bags!!! lol, I got mine, but im not happy with them.. they are alright, but I imagined them being a touch better lol.. call me particular I guess, thats what cheaping out does! and in regards to the PM's Im glad people agree and share the same thoughts!!! I have NO problem helping brides out that are willing to contribute... IE If they have about 120 posts and have worked for them and are actually contributing... Just for fun, I looked at the types of things that these brides who are PMing have been posting, and sure enough, all whopping 10 posts are "welcome, welcome, welcome etc in the newbie threads... this drives me NUTS!!!!! I am looking for helpful threads and the newest topics, not WELCOME WELCOME etc.... ugh... thats my little vent! Ill admit, when I was about 20 posts away I got eager, and I may have been a little guilty of the one liners... but not many, if any! AND if I did, I read the ENTIRE thread (gah!) to see if they had any questions that I could help out with.
  19. These turned out well!!! I may be using the same technique to paint my "reserved" signs for the parents =) Thanks for the instructions!! Did you get your wooden plaques from Michaels too?
  20. So I am in a bit of a conflict at the moment... I got a PM from another bride, and she asked if I would e-mail her one of my templates that were posted on DTW... She also mentioned "I dont have the patience to get to 150 posts", she only has 10... Now, I wouldnt have an issue sharing, but the fact she told me that she was too lazy to contribute when I worked at contributing to forums and worked up to my ability to view attachments, bothers me a little! BUT at the same time, I feel like if I can help someone, why not? Advice??
  21. Well I hear alot about flowers wilting and not being able to withstand the heat, but I have also heard the odd bride here and there say they had flowers that were real, and they did last. It came down to a matter of opinion for me, I could not justify buying flowers from the hotel, they wanted 450 for a bouquet that I really didnt like, so why pay for something that is going to die anyways, and for something you dont really enjoy? I figured these flowers look real, feel real, and they will last a lifetime. My mom had fake flowers at her wedding, they werent real thouch as it was 25 years ago, but she still has them, and I think that was kind of nice. I will post a picture so you can see my bouqet and my bridesmaids.
  22. I thoroughly reccomend Water Me Not as a real touch florist if you havent already found someone, she is amazing to deal with and I found her prices really reasonable. I got my bouquet, 5 bridesmaid bouquets, 5 GM bouts, the groom bouts, 2 little boy bouts, 2 father bouts, and 2 mother corsages, all for 400 (I think it was more around 350). I havent received them yet, but she sent me a picture of the brides bouquet and the bridesmaids as well, still wiating on the men and mothers..
  23. I would try contacting a travel agency and asking for an agent who specializes in weddings.. Im sure they would know some suggestions! I think its a little sad that its not easier to find a place for same sex couples to get married!!
  24. I spent about 11.00 a bag, Mind you, I did not splurge with the travel mugs or towels. After talking to some guests I found out that most bought bubba kegs while they were on sale at Canadian Tire, so I wanted to save myself some luggage room and not get duplicates! Thank god for that, these things were huge lol! I did however get personalized shot glasses (They are our wedding favor, but we are putting them in the bag)
  25. Tori- About your post for moores and linen... they do not carry linen suits I tried with them already, their light suits were still a bit to heavy for my FI's likings (mind you, hes worse than me when it comes to being picky).... I ended up having to order them from studio suits.
