I have been seeing a lot of responses on the internet (not this site) when people say that anyone have a reception after a destination wedding isn't really have a reception and it's tacky to call it that and horrendous for the bride to wear her gown again and blah blah blah.

I want to talk to people that have REAL experience with destination weddings - the brides on this forum!!!

What are your thoughts on this?

I'm having a AHR a week after our DW at a hall just as though we had been married here.

I'm planning on wearing my gown and having my bridal party wear their attire too.

Am I wrong in doing this?

    Also as a side note...

What have people used/will be using as favours for the AHR?

have you been on the Knot? they call everything tacky and then e-bully you into submission. Stay off that site!! LOL Come here instead!

An AHR is not tacky. Neither is wearing your gown to said AHR. its a celebration of a wedding/marriage, wouldn't wedding clothes be appropriate?

That said, there will always be someone that finds something about your wedding "tacky." People judge weddings like they change underwear. Don't worry about it, just enjoy your new husband and celebrating with the people who care about you! Hopefully the judgy, tacky-labelers will just stay home!!

(I'm slightly opinionated today, apparently! )

totally agree with erica, people will say what they want and have opinions on everything but the best advice i have is DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY because 3 years later (or longer), you'll look back and wish you did (like me! haha). you cant please everyone so make choices YOU and FI will be happy with later. :)

I just LOVE how people throw around the word "etiquette" when it comes to desination weddings.

There is nothing set in stone - to me wedding etiquette is based on personal opinion.  Yes, there are things that remain true in some circumstances but when it comes to things like a DW - I don't think there is.  DWs are getting more popular lately and I don't know why people think it is so tacky to have a reception when you get home.

Is it so wrong to want to celebrate with the people who couldn't make it to your DW?

It's like they act like you just come home, tell them to show up to your house with a gift and f off lol.

I hate the word 'Etiquette' people (especially family) seem to use it to bully you into doing things their way, i saw do what makes you happy and dont worry about pleasing anyone else!

Etiquette is completely based on opinion, unfortunately! Also dependent on location, culture, socio-economic status, etc. We could drive ourselves insane trying to make everyone happy!!

When I think of the word 'Etiquette'  I think of stuffy old people who don't want to have fun!

I don't think an AHR is tacky-not at all. I can't wait to come home to celebrate with my friends and family who couldn't make it to my DW. Enjoy your day-both wedding and AHR. Wear your dress and enjoy!!!

I think it is a marvelous idea to wear your dress and have the wedding party do the same! Forthose unable to attend your DW, i"m sure they will love to see you in your dress in oerson ---not via pictures! Bottom line ----your day, do what you want!

I'm doing the whole AHR thing. I don't think its tacky and neither do any of my guests. They are all excited. Those that are coming to the DW are excited for another party and those that can't come are happy they can still celebrate with us. I just say don't listen to people who say stuff like that. They are probably jealous you get to wear your dress twice! ha ha
